There's no story that gets in the way of GAMEPLAY, and what story there is is sought by the player, if and when they choose.
It's a perfect way to tell a story in a VIDEO GAME, where the PLAYER is in control.

You make a good point. I remember while playing Dark Souls that I started noticing little things in the environment and the designs of the enemies that told me what happened to them. The Souls games are proof that in almost all cases, gameplay is the most important element of a game. The way the Souls games presents its lore and stories is far more intriguing than almost all other RPGs out there.

I like these games but their "story" and lore is mediocre to say the least. Underwhelming settings that are trumped by Bloodborne and even Sekiro

I prefer mediocre lore in a game you actually play than ""RPGs"" (movies) with 40 hours of cutscenes

There are quests and side quests, OP.

The lore is better than most. Story is better basic. Literally the story in Lord Of the Rings is “destroy this ring” for 3 movies and it’s great because of what happens around it like the souls games.

      >deeper lore and better stories

Tragic stories create conflict. It’s regrettable it happens so often but what game that gives you 100 hours doesn’t have repeated ideas?

        >but what game that gives you 100 hours doesn’t have repeated ideas?
All Souls games' story seems like a rehash of Demon's Souls to me tbtbh senpai. Elden Ring might as well be Dark Souls 4 if you changed Outer Gods with something Lord Souls.

Yea the game share similar themes. Miyazaki likes making new stories and building on the previous game without numbering them so he has more freedoms. It’s like if final fantasy games had different names when the story changes and some items change. It’s normal for game devs to do this.

Behind its story LotR has a lifetime's worth of lore and worldbuilding written for it. FromSoft games' lores are a frankenstein's monster result thanks to cutting content and reassembling it in the last minute. It's better to pretend there's no lore instead

It’s not that bad. Some of it was rushed because there are studios behind him pushing for a game to come out and funding ran out. LoTR’s creator just had to focus on writing a story and had time, he didn’t have to figure out mechanics or direct the art department or make cuts for a deadline.

Also if you think it’s terrible then you’re disingenuous. It’s better than most games. It’s not perfect nor amazing but it isn’t bad. Comes off and a hate bandwagon.

Pic related is why the "storytelling" in Souls games works for so many people. The plot/setting is just whatever you make of it while playing.

Why does the Witcher have hobbits, dwarves and elves? They don't fit the setting at all. The author should have just stuck to slavic folklore and classic fairytales.

Most aren't born witchers, as far as I'm aware. Easier to get the analogy across with a different race of beings.

            >Most aren't born witchers
None of the witchers are born as witchers. Yet they went through mutations when they were kids. Seems redundant to turn it into another Tolkien world for no reason.

Sure, but why use races from Tolkien's novels that themselves were taken from germanic mythology. Sapkowski already had Witchers, sorcerers and sapient monsters that could fit the same purpose. He could also alternatively create races based on slavic myths.

      >These trash games are the Nolan movies of the videogame industry
Complete bullshit. Nolan makes blockbuster movies for the lowest common denominator. Nolan equivalents in the video game industry are obviously Sony exclusives like God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted and more. You know games, where you expect dudebros to go "woow dude, did you see that?". All flash and pretentiousness.

A lot of people never played Dark Souls long enough, because they couldn't handle the difficulty and the complete lack of cutscenes and handholding. You're thrown into Souls games and you're being told to go figure out things on your own. Not to mention that Souls games, especially Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3 have that distinctive Japanese flavor that a lot of westerners don't like

you can get carried by coop players or just grind if you're bad. all the games have tutorials and Elden Ring literally has an ingame map. every souls game is easier than Unsharted on Crushing btw.

    >very little dialogue
    >almost all of the dialogue is important or has some significance, keeping the player interested whenever they talk to an NPC
This alone makes it better than 90% of modern RPGs where there's so much filler dialogue just for the sake of padding things out. It's so boring when you meet a new npc and they just start rambling on about their daily life and you know that none of it has any relation to the main story.

5 word item descriptions aren't deep lore, no matter how long the youtuber talks about them for. You can't make a shit game with a shit story and say "oh the lore of so deep, the origin of this dagger goes back thousands of years". That's not part of the game

The game story is shit. It steals real kino and rehashes it into some vague Gankereddit soulless trash. They only make their story vague because they know if they implemented a real story it will be subpar. The only good thing they can do is make decent character/level concepts thats about it. The gameplay is arpg slop. Arpg have the worse combat in gaming history, and yes its worse that turn base combat. Most of the bosses are terrible the only game i remember with decent bosses was dark souls 1.
