A new mainline Zelda game is always an era-defining cultural event. Each game is a time capsue for a certain place and a certain feeling, and just by looking at them you can get a taste of what emotions and sensations the developers were trying to evoke. They are all distinct, memorable, and almost ephemeral gaming experiences. TOTK being "mostly BOTW" is a significant departure from the series' typical landmark releases. It evokes nothing and represents nothing, besides post-Covid stagnation and cynical corporatism.

I disagree. TOTK feels like it mas MUCH more intent behind its desgn that BOTW does. BOTW was the proof-of-concept, TOTK was the game they originally planned to make.
The game is a masterpiece. Where are you getting cynical corporatism from? For me it's the complete opposite. The game feels like a passion project. Nintendo handing Aonuma a blank cheque and saying "make whatever you want".
What's crazy to me is how the game blends the core concept of absolute player freedom (as stated by the devs many times) with what are obviously crafted sequences and experiences. Look at how difficult it is to make Metroidvanias How hard it is for developers to make games that are open-ended and have branching paths, and trust the player to make their own way. Most devs can't do it. It's too hard to account for all of the possibilities, it's too hard to make it work with the story they set out to tell, it's too hard to give up control and let the player go wherever without breaking something. Metroid Dread should have been the breakout success of the genre, but Mercury Steam failed for whatever reason.
Then you have TOTK. A game that's much more story-heavy than BOTW, that has a sequence of playable story events, yet it's completely open-ended you can do almost anything in any order, go anywhere, skip half the game if you want. The devs don't force you to sit through the content they made. They don't insist that certain things happen at certain times. Like Hollow Knight and Team Cherry, they seem to take a more lax approach. They know not everyone is going to see everything, and that's okay.
When people say that nobody else could make TOTK, I imagine this is the sort of thing they're talking about. It's just not possible for most studios, what with the suits breathing down their necks.

I think the only fight i even died in was against Xord, and even then that's because I was trying to do a low level run.I hated fighting trash mobs in this game. Yet somehow I still ended up getting overleveled, even though I couldn't have been bothered to do more of the sidequests or the disgusting heart to heart moments. ugh, such cinematic filler left a bad taste in my mouth.
Maybe the characters shouldn't have been braindead 1 dimensional cliches. Maybe I would've cared enough to change them if the game was better.

Xeno isn't a button masher, it's all about positioning.
What positioning? You wait for cooldowns, button mash them, and then you win the game. funfact, I found out that you don't even have to be aiming in the direction of your enemy for your attack to hit. If you use a special ability with Sharla, for instance, she can be aiming her gun in the complete opposite direction of an enemy, and the bullet will magically turn around and hit them with pretty much 100% accuracy. I've also had Shulk use his abilities, HIS MELEE ABILITIES NO LESS, to hit enemies half-way across the battlefield. For a game about being non-turn based, all of your attacks pretty much have auto-aim, so an enemy can't dodge an attack that's already been cast.
Funny how Xenoblade fans never bring up this curious trait of the game.

There isn't a single likable character. Where's the Robo equivalent? Where's the Alphus equivalent? A character that just does their job without snarky marvel quips? Is that so much to ask?

So there's no reason it couldn't have just been turn based, since it didn't do anything to warrant the open battle system. It doesn't even take advantage of the environment FFs. Every battle is just a flat plain. Maybe you run into small hallways (like on the way to colony 6) but that just results in you fighting annoying, but not challenging, flying enemies. Even rogue Galaxy had the insight to implement verticality into its open style RPG combat.

This. TotK makes BotW look like a first draft. And nobody has been able to make a game like BotW except Nintendo. TotK takes every which was next-level from BotW and then expands on it. Better mainquests, better sidequests, bigger world, better content, better exploration, better rewards, better boss battles, better everything.

Everything about that ending - from the confrontation at Hyrule Castle, to the descent into depths underneath, battling through the gloom hoards, the 1-on-1 sword fight with Ganondorf (when his 2nd form kicked in and his energy bar extended off the screen I fricking cheered), the final confrontation in the skies above and that last epic dive to catch Zelda (in open gameplay) was just absolutely stunning. Hard to see how Nintendo can ever top this.
Except it cancelled out the only interesting story twist in the entire Zelda history, with Zelda transforming back. Would've been better if she stayed freaky

It's just like design vs art in the modern day...artists still exist and create things they're passionate about but designers are making the bag with big advertising projects for corporations. Same with video games. Indie shit exists, passion projects exist, but hype surrounds games until people move on.
Twitch and internet culture enables this, people can find a garbage indie title to latch on to for a couple of months and it goes forgotten like nothing.
Gaming is evolving. It's no longer about memorable, long-lasting titles that'll stand the test of time. It's about flash in the pan, make as much money as possible in the moment preying on people's FOMO.

Not to mention all of the fricking invisible walls before you finish the temple missions, I had a chest spawn just barely beyond a wall, thought I could grab it only for paimon to take my controls away and force my character to walk back.
Oh and that shit has no real fricking lock on just some auto tracking shit when you're close to am enemy which doesn't even have a proper reticle like games like kingdom hearts.
And before I started playing it I thought primogems were the currency you use to summon. No, you use them to buy the actual currency which is like 160 for 1 and you need 10 for a multi. That's a lot of fricking grinding when you're only getting like 2 to 5 in a chest or mission.
But they alliviate it with codes but that couldn't be simple either because most of them are on their streams and they expire after 24 hours.
Then there's the gliding, on top of the wings being fricking stupid design wise IF YOU CANCEL IT IN THE AIR YOU LOSE ALL MOMENTUM AND DROP LIKE A FRICKING ROCK. It's just straight down, no turning.

As it stands I'm done with it, Fromsoft delivers everything I personally wanted from Zelda as a kid and as an adult: a fun hack-and-slash swordplay system with cool enemies to fight in interesting environments. Yeah, the game just has little to no memorable moments. The physics gimmicks are a novelty that wear quite quickly, and exploring the world is quite tedious because of the stamina bar and the weapon durability.
I did enjoy parts of it, but it's the same kind of enjoyment I got out of Horizon Zero Dawn.

I think they really didn't need to kill Dragon Ganon. Dragons are harmless and don't do shit most of time. You would just have +1 more angry dragon roaming the sky, in that state Ganondorf can conquer kingdom. But now he will definitely reborn some times later like he always do.
