Why play modern games at this point when this exists and is easily emulated?

Agreed on having all the games you'd ever want, but PS2 is relatively difficult to emulate, no? PCSX2 at least has surprisingly bad performance for some games. I still can't play Primal with GPU rendering last I checked.

PS2 was the beginning of the end. nu-fun all around. everything of value was already on 8 bits, 16 bits, 32 bits and computers

    >easy to emulate

Really? If it is, then I'm down for it. Not like I'm going to find a cheap copy of Silent Hill 2/3 any time soon.

      it's not easy to emulate.
Ive been emulating PS2 since around 2008, it's gotten better for sure, but it's far from easy.
For reference I can get PS emulating in 5 minutes, download bios, use engine, re-install specific files for engine. done.
PS2 requires a pretty optimized engine and i can spend two hours getting it to work correctly and some games still won't work.
Gamecube is just now getting easier to emulate, but frick me it's difficult to get a two disk game to emulate.

You've got that right, buddy. There is literally no reason to play modern troony games. I'm emulating everything except for the PS2, Wii/Gamecube and the og Xbox, and keep my Steam account for the occasional good Indie game. PS3/PS4/Shitbox 360/one are garbage anyway.

For some reason I want to buy PS2 but I don't need it because my gaming PC can emulate any PS2 game I want.

      Some better than others.

Better than playing on PS2. Save states, fast loading, multitask while playing, for example I can put my game in windowed mode and watch youtube, shitpost and play at the same time, I can make screenshots and record gameplay videos, it's just more comfortable to play PS2 via emulator for me.

i only play games on a ps2 and Dreamcast because i can easily download any game and play it for free

    ps2 using freemcboot

for Dreamcast you burn them on a cdr

if i ever buy a new console it's gonna be modded one so i can play games for free

i am not paying 20-50 dollars for games

This, but I took the sd to memory card pill. I can't remember the name of it but it's freemcboot but it has a sd slot for isos instead of using the hdd

Based. I bought a Genesis Mini and put games on it with a mini USB. There's Master System, NES and SNES games on it too.

How is the emulation on it? Did they at least do a decent enough job? Because Sega just recently completely borked Sonic Origins.

I still prefer the PSX. It had the better library, in my opinion. Especially when it comes to JRPGs.
But the PS2 was still extremely good.

Both were good but PS2 blows the PSX out the water when it comes to JRPGs.

It does not, in my opinion. FF VII, VIII and IX are better than X and XII. PSX also has Legaia, Azure Dreams, Koudelka Dragon Quest VII, not to mention the ports of NES/SNES RPGs (even if the quality was questionable at times) also Wild Arms, Arc the Lad, Jade Cocoon...
And these are just off the top of my head.
The PS2 had good JRPGs, but they're way less unique and interesting. The only RPG series on PS2 that comes close to PSX greatness is Shadow Hearts.

Anon... the PS2 has all of those games (it can play PSX) and more. Dark Cloud, Suikoden V, Tales of Abyss, P3FES, Persona 4, Romancing Saga, Xenosaga, .hack games, Clock Tower games, Rogue Galaxy etc.

            >the PS2 has all of those games
They're PS1 games, even if the PS2 has half baked support for them. Also Xenosaga is terrible.

I can play all of these on my PC.
            That makes them PC games.
