Alright nerds I'm going to give mobile gaming an honest shot.
Tell me your 5 best games you keep on your phone.
No gacha. No energy. Only real games that aren't trying to fish out a microtransaction.

The only one I found that isn't awful is Rogue Adventure which is a deck building rougelike
Another Eden is fun, so long as your don't want to minmax gatcha is totally optional and it's a good old school rpg.
It's by the chrono trigger guy so... Yeah.
>chrono trigger guy
Black person that game had like a dozen different brilliant minds working on it
there was no "chrono trigger guy"
"chrono trigger guy" is universally known as Kato Masato you autist. You knew who he was talking about.
Does he frick white hair?
That's his "sister".
The question still valid
Second this.
AE is decent and worth the time if you have it.
I hate gatchashit, but if I had to play one it'd be AE.
I played it for a bit, but had other games to play instead (mostly square enix ports).
My only issue is that it's a bit too simplistic and repetitive, even for JRPG standards. Not bad, but not really my cup of tea and low on my priority list.
I have trash taste but there one game, although you prob need to search this one to play it, is pure dumb fun arcade style with the UFO and you yeeting cows, rock, and whatever you can throw at building one not. This game at leats a decade old, but can't recommend it enough.
Based and alienpilled
You might want to check out Hungry Shark, from the same developer.
Slice & Dice
Ice Cream Disaster
Path of Adventure
Simon Tatham's Puzzles
Alphacross Crossword
I've been addicted to this shit called Harvest Land for a bit. Also seconded on Another Eden. You can ignore the gacha aspect completely.
Chimera Recollect (weird JRPG/breakout hybrid, a bit repetitive and kind of easy but chock-full of content, gameplay is fun and works well with touch controls, story is REALLY good - not just "for mobile standards" good, just good period)
DATA WING (top-down racer with really solid presentation and surprisingly good story, controls take a bit to get used to but it's a blast when you do)
Underhand (simple Solitaire/resource management game where you're trying to summon an elder god, very light on content but it's fun and relaxing while it lasts)
Star Traders: Frontiers
Stardew Valley (with mods)
Cataclysm DDA if you can stomach the controls
Slay the Spire
Shattered Pixel Dungeon
Pixel Puzzle
Galaxy on Fire 2
Papers, Please
Emulators, mainly PSP
That's more than 5, but these I play regularly
Also seconding Data Wing.
>Emulators, mainly PSP
What emulators do you use, especially for the PSP.
PPSSPP is the only option for PSP emulation on mobile
MD.emu - Genesis/CD
NES.emu - NES
Drastic - DS
ePSXe - PS1
My Boy! - GBA
Citra - 3DS
have you tried the dos emulator?
I like the Square Enix library(Final fantasy, Dragon Quest, Mana series, Chrono Tigger, Valkyrie Profile to name the ones I play or played).
I hear a lot of complaints because those are older games and they ask between $10 to $30 for each, but that's nothing compared to what people spend on fricking gatcha. At least you actually get what you paid for.
You can go the emulator route, but I'm a good goy because I'm a sucker for classic jrpgs.
Not him but I tried DosBox on Android years ago. It technically works flawlessly, but the touch controls were too much for me to handle. Maybe on a tablet it'd be better, but on phone it's difficult to recommend.
Unciv is excellent too. But it's only one Android or desktop platforms. No iphone.
Google Play doesn't have a download list. If Square Enix delists any of those games you bought you won't be able to reinstall them if you uninstall them.
>My Boy! - GBA
pizza boy is better
Can use retroarch for all of these. I find it more convenient on mobile.
What's the difference Cataclysm DDA and Cataclysm DDA (X)?
No clue, i get Cata builds from the Bright Nights branch on Github
https://github.com/cataclysmbnteam/Cataclysm-BN
Excluding emulator,my mainstay are clash royale (technically no gacha no energy, but it does fish for microtransactions for faster
progression),arknight (gacha but game is too fricking good), Buriedbones. And then there's also mobile port, like StS,into the breach and nuclear throne
(X) mean unstable build
CR is shit and it requires microtransactions. There is no way to have fun playing that stupid game otherwise. Also its one hell of a grind that recently got worse with the last big update.
t. leaderboard ranked player that spent way too much maxing out his account
eXperimental has all of the latest features and isn't 2+ years old without any updates. Go CDDA X
>isn't 2+ years old without any updates
Given what the king dev is like, the less updates the better.
With Galaxy on Fire 2, I've encountered a bug where I can't exit the space station as I can't press the button to do so. It keeps opening up the buy credits menu. I've tried changing multiple settings on phone to no avail and I've run out of ideas. Has anyone else had this problem and have you been able to fix it?
Try going to map screen and setting course for another star system, you skip pressing the leave station button this way.
This is at the beginning of the game when you're doing the tutorial section. I only have access to the Status button. :/
one of the best, im surprised they fricked it all up by steering away from their exploration space sim and made a shooter instead
I don't think you can even access GOF3 anymore LMAO.
>stardew valley with mods
what mods do you recommend anon?
>decided to play Chimera Recollect
>slow start, thought I was being memed
>suddenly halfway point happens
>things start to pick up
>just got to the part where the little girl just fricking dies
>no more login bonuses
>no more items in battle
>because those were all things the girl did to help me
>her sister finds out and BREAKS in front of me
>a hollow feel of sadness I haven't felt playing vidya in a long time
rest in peace yotsuba
Its a shame the game feels so unconcluded.
You just travel to that last secret area and meet the girl again. The other characters are forgotten in the ending.
the knight and catboy stay together having /ss/ filled adventures, Beast King and beastman got pepsi'd and the adventurer is hangin' out with the girl
idk, it feels pretty conclusive to me, just a shame we don't get much on sister tho
What about the traveler or the giant dragon
Aren't the adventurer and the traveler the same person?
Also, I agree that I could use more story at the end, but "wanting more" is a good problem to have and seeing Girl all grown up and as an adventurer was enough to put a big dumb smile on my face.
How do you travel to the secret area? Apparently you have to get a certain score in the dream world but it didn't work. Do you have to unlock every crystal?
>Do you have to unlock every crystal?
I don't think so, I just messed around the dream world and eventually I got the required score and the warp statue took me there
Also, keep in mind that the true ending requires clearing both the secret area and its "dream" world counterpart
If I remember correctly, you need 400 steps in Dream World.
It's pretty easy. Go back to earlier levels and survive as much as you can in Dream World.
Thx for DATA WING. It's exactly the type of game I've been craving.
Are there others like it? dialogue-driven or fun controls and without (much) hand holding
>No gacha. No energy.
hmm
>Only real games
ooh how about guardian tales
>No gacha. No energy.
>that aren't trying to fish out a microtransaction.
hmmm
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has an android version I think that I've played a lot while working. Controls suck ass but its a fun game.
Pacman 256

Idle Skilling and Antimatter Dimensions if you like Cookie Clicker
I actually prefer Mindustry to Factorio.
Any of these have nice eastern art?
Good taste right here.

3. Obligatory Kairosoft game of your liking. I recommend Game Dev Story and and Dungeon Village
4. 2048
5. Retroarch but only for strategy and puzzle games because otherwise the controls are shite
>5. Retroarch but only for strategy and puzzle games because otherwise the controls are shite
buy a gamepad
For dragon ball games, which one is better and why, Dokkan or legends?
Dokkan unless you're a pvp tard
>Forge
>Star Traders: Frontiers (the only game I bought in mobile)
>DCSS
>Crying Suns
>unironically Snap
First four are day 1 installs and never removed in any of my phones. Last one is currently most-played -- although it has mtx, the game is genuinely fun and respects your time.
I also use Citra for emu itches.
>Buriedbornes
It's like a character builder dungeon crawler. Very great for the length of time you'd be out and about playing on your phone for. You can buy things but it's all just like extra inventory slots, which is very helpful but not required, and then skins. Game is done by one dude. Very fun, lots of build options, and it's been on my phone for years
If by "real game", you meant a full length console type game, then just download an emulator
>all these ugly western games
How about a recent eastern game that's not a gacha? I can only think of Shadowverse and Another Eden but they're both old.
Oh I don't know, it's not like Nips are capable of wholesome businessmanship when it comes to mobile games, just take a look at this board's catalog. They're making themselves rich by selling jpegs to nerds, they invented that shit. Why would any of them want to give that up and make normal games only a handful of anons would care about?
>ugly
Not fappable, I take it? Yeah, that's part of the problem. Sexy gacha sells well enough because pervs have no standards. Devs have real gaming platforms to sell their games on when they feel like including actual gameplay, anyway.
Doesn't have to be fappable, most gachages are pretty tame and I don't fall anyway. I just mean it shouldn't look like horseshit.
Okay. However, games with minimal graphics tend to have decent or even excellent battery mileage which is something I can get behind.
And it's not like the visuals matter that much when the screen is so small, especially if the gameplay is great.
Monster Hunter Stories, a proper RPG with decent-to-good graphics. Of course, it's a port. No one on their right mind will invest in high-end graphics + gameplay on Android, except cashcow gachas like Gensh*n.
What makes Shadowverse so different?
I never played that HS-ripoff so I wouldn't know. Tell us why you're so fixated on that.
Fixated? It's just an eastern game that doesn't use stamina, making it a good example for what I'm requesting.
Stop playing chinkshit you fricking homosexual
eastern games arent any better either
the only decent/good looking eastern games on mobile you will find are chinese (hi3, genshin)
there are way too many chinese games on my radar for that reason
I agree, but those two are both gacha, I already have a full gacha stable.
yeah
but that's the sad reality of mobile games
almost everything i have played so far on mobile felt "cheap", ugly-looking or ridden with ads/transactions
i remember there was some new game released recently, it's like smash bros with really great visuals, no ads, and monetization seems to mostly focused for exclusive characters and cosmetics
there's also pokemon unite, but i have heard it's really bad
other than that, i have some unreleased games on my radar that just look good enough but i am unsure about how they will turn out to be when they release
heartopia (like animal crossing)
eggboy party (like fall guys)
breaking box (another fall guys alt)
roco kingdom (like pokemon)
screaming chicken ultimate showdown (like smash bros or party animals)
utoyia
horned monster
kalpa of universe (strategy)
remembered the name of that smash bros like game
it's "flash party"
Dungeon Cards, Skylore and Vampire Survivors are what I've put the most hours into, other than Pokemon Rogue which is an emerald romhack I play with retroarch if that counts
i wish Toad make DF android version. i would love to have it mobile just to read stuff
Master Duel
Night of the Full Moon is fun.
Kind of like a single player Hearthstone.
The base game is free which comes with I think like 5 decks, with other decks you can buy for $2(I think).
It's decent but just a Slay the Spire knockoff, the original is far superior.
The world ends with you.
I have a game connected to you finding a game
How short your patience is
I read others give you exactly what you ask for and see how quickly you give a negative response because you can't be bothered and don't actually want to put in any effort whatsoever for what you asked for.
I'll start.
Open your Google play application.
Now search for games.
And I've already lost you, haven't I?
Well anyways that was just a joke because you likely won't find anything you just asked for from the Google play store
HOWEVER.
If you download an actual standalone client for a game, you might find exactly what you're looking for.
But my guess is your phone is a brick, you're a lazy idiot, and don't know what an APK file us.
So go frick yourself and re-up your online lobby subscription on your newest platform, stupid b***h.
Or buy a PC and actually grow a brain. moron.
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy Dimensions
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy Tactics WOTL
Final Fantasy 7
All the Seiken Densetsu, Dragon Quest, Saga games, Chrono Trigger etc. are on mobile also.

free on f-droid, haven't tried it yet but i love it on pc so hopefully whoever ported it didnt frick up with touch controls.
How's the ios port of the World Ends with You? I haven't got a ds and I heard the switch version's controls are pretty shit but I don't really see how an iphone could do better than a switch on that front.

Unciv
>no ads
>completely free
>feels like a full game, coming from someone who's first Civ experience is this
>updated recently, like late Dec of last year
>pixelated version of Civ 5, sprites actually got a cool update from the time I was introduced (not too long ago)
>huge time sink when on the toilet, like now
>am actually looking for more mobile games that are similar in terms of fullness, ad free, and overall generally free and updated every so often
>dev, who I think is working on it by himself, mentions in the app that he wishes to keep the game free and improve on it, only asks you to comment as to support him
>sounds wholesome
And I'll throw in Plague Inc while I'm at it. Although that one has ingame app purchases.
This is how it looks now. I'm actually gonna scrap this run and start over. Civ is hard, but I'm starting to get the appeal of why people like it so much.
Seconding this. Unciv is fricking incredible for the low low price of FREE.
I tried it and got stomped instantly. I am a veteran of Paradox grand strategies and have always hate Civ for it's overly simplified turn-based gameplay and pointless pretense at history, but since this was on mobile I thought I'd give it a go and it just seems totally random.
>enter game
>random enemy declares war on me after only a few turns
>build spearmen and send them out
>enemy has more spearmen
>GG I lose
The game didn't even go long enough for me to make any meaningful decisions.
>veteran
More like, veteran moron.

Galaxy on Fire 2
Motorsport Manager 3
Cultist Simulator
Plague Inc if you can get a cracked apk work
Best game is honestly still retroarch, which android handles flawlessly. Most retro games require a gamepad to be good though, however there are a few games that are plenty good with the onscreen overlays.
-Advanced Wars 2 ( GBA ) is fantastic as a mobile game.
-Fire Emblem series
-Just about any RPG game
-Easy forgiving platformers ( IE Kirby's Adventure for NES )
-Some racing games are OK
-Pinball games are usually fine
>-Advanced Wars 2
most phones should be able to handle DS emulation too, so add Dual strike and Days of ruin as well (DOR is weird as frick but personally I love it)
Romhacks too, Andy's adventure and if you like pokemon there's an autochess like version called pokemon crown.
This is probably your best bet. The save state feature allows you to start and stop a session quickly so perfect for on the go. touch controls are fine for turn based games. Lots of classics worth playing that aren't cancer like modern gaming. Plenty to choose from across NES, SNES, MS, MD, PSP, GB, GBA.Some phones you can expand that to include PSX and DS.
Play underhand
We need more games like Dysmantle, Out There Omega or... shit, PixelDungeon?
It is horrible the lack of halfway decent titles that are not saturated with ads.
Vampire survivors
I got gifted one of those small 8bitdo bluetooth controllers, thinking of doing more phone gaming with it, but, not just emulation
Night of the Full Moon (GOAT)
PGR
Project Neural Cloud

embrace the gacha
no
1. Night of the full moon. Deck building game. The micro transactions are more akin to dlc
2. Dead space mobile. A stand alone DS game. I wish more mobile games were made like this.
3. Xcom. Fire emblem style game with aliens and mecs. I honestly couldnt put it down till i finished it. Also a pc port.
4. Galaxy on fire 2. A sapce ship adventure. Really fun game to sink some time into. Grindy at the start but one tou get a good ship and good guns youll have a blast.
5. Grimvalor. Sidescrolling adventure gets alittle repetitive but still 100 times better than the shit we get on mobile.
Every game should be under 20 bucks. Every new phone i get i replay these games. Especially dead space. It hurts me playing ds knowing we could have had amazing games like this but ended up with this shit show we have today.
P.s. battle chasers night wars is also a game worth checking out.
Took a screen shot for proof. Its not on google play store. Just look for it on apk sites. The game is around 400 mb. If the apk is under that its a scam.
How smooth XCOM runs on mobile.
Last I checked it was updated years ago.

Pic related really need some love, it's one of the better arcade-ish games out there.
This but Slayin/Drancia, lost so many hours in these games
I found that T3 Arena was really fun, the controls are good, for a phone game
unfortunate that it gets pretty sweaty, there are bots also so it's all good
Are there any similar games that control the same? (nice animations, third person, twin sticks, auto shoot when aiming)
Maybe try this Volzerk game. It's a weeb game but with no gacha, no energy.
this is the thread for me
i picked up a samsung galaxy a53 to replace my old iphone 6 last summer. so far it's been great, everything works really well and the battery chugs for fricking ever. but, i didn't try games until i picked up minecraft yesterday. it's fricking phenomenal for a phone, that shit runs almost exactly as it did on my pc back in the beta days. they don't even call that shit pocket edition anymore, it's literally just a slightly nerfed version of minecraft. and i love minecraft.
so yes, i am convinced that phones are finally somehow in a place where gaming is viable. i work nights now on a small crew, no one really talks to one another, and i basically just babysit a machine for 10 hours. i need some games for my breaks or i'm going to go crazy. please rec me some stuff too
i see a lot of rpgs and whatnot, i would definitely try one or two but i'm really not an rpg guy. i explicitly do not like gacha because i get really into it for like a week then drop it, my fence-sitting weeb tendencies are not nearly enough to keep me interested in what usually amounts to an idle game or a meh tier semi-rpg.
if it helps, my top 5 pc games are
>deep rock galactic
>splitgate
>minecraft (obviously)
>mass builder
>crossout
>ghostrunner
>my top 5 PC games
>shooters
I would recommend gunfire reborn, it's a mobile port, it's a roguelike fps where enemies drop guns with different abilities that get progressively better over the course of the run so there's an incentive to try different guns. Yeah it's a furry game, and the multiplayer is kinda dead at least on mobile, but if you like to play single player it's a pretty good shooter.
Based phone gaming enjoyer. I can relate to your situation but my taste in games is literally the opposite of yours (strategy, roguelikes, puzzles), so I can't really recommend anything. The one multiplayer game I tried was Brawl Stars and it was fine for a few weeks.
is pixel gun 3d any good?
>100m downloads
>released 2014

I played it in high school, it's pay to win as frick, and there are a lot of cheaters, I doubt much has changed in 8 years but you can give it a try I guess

Any recommendations for gaming phone models,or things to pay attention to if you're a tech moron like me?I have a high budget, and will mainly be playing rhythm games, puzzles and emulating.Maybe some mobile RPGs too in the future.
I'd also recommend:
Cats are liquid(Also has what seems to be a beta build as a separate app on the app store)
Ghost Trick
Pop the ice
Mekorama
Grayland(Haven't played much of it but seems promising)
Orna is quite good.

I'm in a similar situation.
Ive been playing marvel snap but its very underwhelming. I dont feel like playing hearthstone since its just way too expensive to keep competitive decks.

Are there any good 2d Minecraft clones for Android? Already played Terraria a bunch and got fed up with dying in Loat Miner.
Games from mdickie 🙂
Here is my list
>Buriedbornes
roguelike RPG with a heavy focus on the mechanics. Save for the skins everything can be grinded ingame
>Pirates Outlaws
Slay the Spire with a pirate theme. The game itself costs 1 buck with ingame DLCs if you want to expand it.
>Guardian Tales
didn't play it that much, it's a gacha but the story is pretty charming and inspired by old Zelda titles.
>Skullgirls Mobile
mobile fighting game combined with some interesting RPG mechanics. Amazing hand drawn animations and iinspired chara designs. It's still a gacha and can be pretty grindy.
Otherwise just go for actual game ports or emulators.
