Great game but I stopped playing because of the "translation" and the "adjustments" WD has done. I hope to God someday someone will create a proper translation, at least we got the hack/patch that restores the games original tuning. What's really tragic is that every release/translation outside of Japan is based on "Working" Designs one, French, Italian, German, Spain all use it. So one bad apple rotted the entire basket.
Basically, the homosexuals at Working Design thought it would be really funny to make a fantasy game with elves, magic, orcs and kobolds sound like a mid 90s sitcom with pop-culture references and comic relieve characters when the game deals with kind of heavy themes like death, loss, love and so on.
In addition to that they thought the game was too short and people would just rent it for the weekend, finish it and return it, so what they did is increase all enemy and boss HP (and some other values I think) so it takes an agonising amount of time fighting even the most basic enemies, they also butchered the intro video. And all other regional releases are based on this butchered version of the game.
Finished it recently. Can't believe a "Zelda clone" can have a better story and characters than any Zelda game.
And I'm a Zelda fan. One of them is even among my favourite games ever. But it's true they're not much story-wise.
Also, best puzzles in a JRPG, perhaps best in games, not counting puzzle games.
Motherfricker. Good thing I played the original. And this games is rather serious and dark too.
I mostly take screenshots, but I try to make at least a few webms while playing, for posterity.
Very specific though, from an old game too.
Old game, but like I said, I just finished it a couple of weeks ago.

Nice. I remember struggling with a few of the puzzles as a kid when I first played it too.

Never really had problems with platforming puzzles in games to be honest

Alundra is my favorite game of all time.
It has flaws, but I still love it.
While not as good there are a couple of other games in the same vain as it on PS1
Blood Omen
Hercs Adventure
There's also another that recently got a translation that's worth a play but it is quite easy to get lost in it

It wasn't a platforming puzzle. It involved pushing pillars in a specific, 20+ step process.

Let me rephrase
I've never have had any problems with physical puzzles
Amazing game, especially for it's time too. I always loved the intro and looking back I actually miss those PS1 intros that all games had in animation like Alundra, Wild Arms etc. Even the CG intros were great.
I loved Alundra, but I never finished it cause I played a pirated version in my shitty third world country and that one had a game breaking bug in the lava level.
Good time to ask: Are there similar games on PC? So similar camera angles, action (and occasional puzzles). I saw Oceanhorn might be similar, right?
Xanadu Next comes close, puzzles aren't nearly as tricky as in Alundra however and it has more light RPG elements (stats, skills and so on). If you like the camera angle and general fantasy vibe then Ys: VI The Ark of Napishtim, Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys: Origin
might be good, but it has more emphasis on action and combat.
Kind of, however it instantly changed
in DS you have to stop your momentum sometimes
it's really odd
I feel if someone fixed the controls the game would be much more fun
Dark savior is a bit awkward to control, you have to let go of the dpad when you change directions
You got all the endings?
Oh shit finally, i heard about this game in an early 2000s tv show from my country praising how the game had many branching paths depending on very early choices about a monster, but i never knew the name, now i can finally play this....is it any good? I imagine its short considering how it has many branching paths?
>is it any good?
yes and no
If you can get past the awkward controls I think it's fun
Also play Story of Thor 2/Legend of Oasis
To me Alundra 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, despite not having anything to do with the first one. Felt like a good 3D zelda clone while 1 is a good 2d zelda clone
Granstream Saga and Brightis are better in my opinion
I LOVE Alundra even with its flaws it remains a constant top 10 for me. Obviously I didn't understand how bad the translation truly was until much later and I still don't understand why they changed the intro video but kept the Japanese one if you wait on the menu... which was better.
I do need to play it again though, its been around 3 years.
I always post the ost in music threads. I also post Meia in first waifu threads.
I tried playing a decade ago or so but found myself getting too annoyed at the guesswork required to understand levels of elevation due to the perspective. I recently played through Landstalker which had a similar issue so I guess I should give it another try.
>the guesswork required to understand levels of elevation due to the perspective
This is the only thing about the game that I didn't like. But there aren't that many places where it's a big problem.

Kino atmosphere but the puzzles and dungeons are all shit. They all are super linear and the puzzles are so unorganic. It feels like its not part of the world.

What the frick I don't remember this I haven't played it in like 15 years.
I don't really remember this either and I haven't played since it released really, or maybe early 00s when I replayed it.
There's a patch that fixes the moronic shit with the hp:
https://cdromance.com/psx-iso/alundra-un-working-designs-hack/
No luck on a retranslation tho

>character says “the faith of a few and a little weed is all we need” in my fantasy game
>snap disc in half
There's a patch to remove the stupid difficulty changes, but an English re-translation is probably a pipe dream.
What do you think of 2?
I'm planning on playing this once I'm done with Shining Force 3 Scenario 1, 2, 3. It's been on my backlog for over a decade now.
Amazing game, especially for it's time too. I always loved the intro and looking back I actually miss those PS1 intros that all games had in animation like Alundra, Wild Arms etc. Even the CG intros were great.
This game is so underrated. It's better than every 2D Zelda.
It was the Zelda of PlayStation.
>Alundra is my favorite game of all time.
Johnny is that you?
I only played Alundra 2
I never played 1 but I love 2
Both are good games in their own accords. The sequel just shouldn't have had the Alundra name but that's about it.
Internal Resolution is way too high for that filter
Yeah I was just fricking around with the options and widescreen patch, I don't actually play it like this.
I actually enjoyed Alundra 2, the pirate trio really reminded me of the Bonne family.
At least the "balance changes" can be reverted by the "Unworked Deisgns" fanpatch.

thanks, anon
i only played the other spiritual successor to landstalker, and i like it
Dark savior is a bit awkward to control, you have to let go of the dpad when you change directions

>you have to let go of the dpad when you change directions
isn't it the same in landstalker? i don't remember.
yeah i got all the endings. i like the strangeness and the setting of the game (a prison island, not enough games do this).
Kind of, however it instantly changed

It's alright
You should play the Unworking designs patch which restores all the original enemy stats, makes for a much less grindy and fun experience
Incredibly comfy game with an incredible atmosphere and insane story that Zelda should have done by now.
Still probably the greatest Zelda clone ever produced.
>that Zelda should have done by now
Do you mean Majora?
or Twilight Princess?
Loved this game
Does anyone else feel it's like a spiritual successor to Landstalker?
Come on man, there's just no way
such a stretch
