It's a visual novel with extra steps disguised as gameplay. The only real choice you have AFAIK is choosing who to let live or who joins you, (option 1 or option 2). I got bored after about 4 battles when I realised there was no real choice.

      >visual novel with extra steps disguised as gameplay
So it's the same as 13 Sentinels unfortunately. I don't hate these types of games but they're sold as being way more than they actually are, which is just a VN. Not worth the hype or the full price.

Pretty much yes, the milage you get on the game highly depends on how much you like the characters

The game is far more involved than 13 sentinels, play the demo if you want to experience it firsthand, a lot of brainlets are calling it an autobattler because they are haters.

Survive was like 90% VN 10% gameplay
This is more like 10% VN 90% gameplay
It has those unit-relationship conversation things that people know from FE, for example, but they never really last more than a minute. It never feels like you are reading way too much.

Are you trying to say the game has more gameplay than that? Because yeah, its almost literally a walking simulator on how little actual gameplay there is because the game is too easy even on the hardest difficult. You can almost make ANY squad and just send them. It has ZERO strategy

The game's dialogues are pretty brief and to the point, and the story is fairly simplistic. It's literally 98% gameplay.

      Anonymous

Yes, I thought this was going to be on the same level as Triangle Strategy but I was sorely disappointed.

It’s dialogue is very brief actually, which wouldn’t be a problem if the gameplay wasn’t painfully mediocre. Mediocre gameplay isn’t a death sentence for a SRPG if it was a good narrative, but this game has nothing going for it.
It brainless gameplay, a very generic story, simplistic characters, and a unfleshed out world.
Next time I see game that attracts coomers that I am also interested in, I’m getting a second opinion because Ganker will buy anything that makes their penis twitch.

yeah but is there some technical finesse, building your characters, setting up squads or good strategy like in Advance Wars games
or do you just equip best equipment and single out one enemy after another with a most basic rock-paper-scissor principle.

enjoyed old FE, AW, Age of Wonders, Wesnoth even though I usually not a fan of turn based combat

Yeah, there's a lot of building good squads with the right units and there's some way set skills if some conditions are met or if there are enemies to prioritize. Its pretty neat and some maps have been decently challenging like the one with the mages.
Unironically think of it as FE in real time. Its really neat. yes, i know its ogre battle

The gameplay is an autobattler meant to trick braindead weebs into thinking it's a strategy game along the lines of Dragon Force, First Queen, Ogre Battle Black Queen and OB 64.
It has a lot of configurability but ultimately what it comes down to in the end is that unless you have one (1) braincell none of that comes into play. morons that think along the lines of "wow I'm such a genius for putting this character in that party" think it's good combat, that should let you know what kind of game this is.

I enjoyed the gameplay. Compare it to fire emblem - in FE, when one of your units contacts an enemy unit they fight, and you can see a projection of who will win before you initiate it. In this, it's the same thing, except instead of each unit being a single character it's a party of characters and you can watch the fight play out and tinker with their tactics settings to optimise their performance.

        Anonymous

honestly the biggest reason Unicorn Overlord is easier than it should be is the ridiculously generous battle predictor. Like you can even change the hit/miss RNG by having a mage or archer unit do their assist attack and completely change how the battle goes. It's the only thing i don't like about the game, you just get way too much information for free. Like i don't even really need to know unit matchups since the game will just tell me which units instant win which fights.

I'm still in Cornia. Was doing missions in the north with "Laurent" but he left. Did I mess up and can't recruit him?

Keep doing liberation missions, you'll see him again.

I'll come back later. My main teams are all level 10+ now and I haven't even gone to Drakenhold. I'm overleveled and shouldn't do that.

Might recruit more generics to funnel XP to

I unironically like autobattlers but don't really care for FE gameplay. Will I like this game?

the demo can import saves and is long enough to decide if you like it or not

What's the point of Initiative boosts after battle start anyway? Like on the Angel knight's accelerate skill, she gets +20 initiative after getting attacked, but what does that actually do? is it a thing that'll be more useful once both teams have multiple attacks per round or something?

It does improve your position for the next round, but that skill really is shit.

You can tell the that the hype behind the game is artificial considering it only sold 40k copies in its opening week
