I dont like the gameplay. I dont like the music. I don't like the level design. I don't like the way any of the characters look. I dont like the weapons. I dont like the sound design. I dont even like the powers.
And I have played through Megaman 1- Megaman 5, Megaman 64, Magaman 9, and Megaman Legends. It was a slog, but at least I genuinely gave them a shot. It's just not for me.

we might have a misunderstanding here. That isn't true. Sekiro and Hydlide are some of my favorite games. I also love ultraman. I just dont think anything in Megaman is cool or badass, which is usually the reward for progression: getting cooler moves. I really dont like many of Capcom's games at all if i'm honest

when I compare it to Blaster Master it just doesnt hold up for me. I also forgot to mention I played ~60% through Megaman X but I figured I wouldnt list it since i didnt finish it

The ground combat is really basic, and the 2D sections play worse than any Mega Man game.
how is it anymore basic than megaman? you just jump and shoot in NES megaman, at least in blastermaster you can shoot in different direections and use missles
Mega Man was really advanced for its era. You could choose which order to do the bosses in, and the route decided which weapons/items you'd attian earlier to make the stages easier. Playing Magnetman first was quite different from playing Magnetman last. Upon release, Mega Man was arguably a whole generation ahead of every other game.
Don't like the stardroids, don't like the megafist, don't like tango, don't like the music, don't like the plot. And every time I play it I'm like, god I wish I was playing World 4 or World 3 or even, god forbid, World 2. But I've played those enough times, I'll force myself to give 5 another shot.
Because Mega Man has real level design where the environment plays a large role in how you approach each level. Blaster Master is mostly corridors with spikes on the ground, making every area feel the same.
That doesn’t make it forced though. It’s a 8-but console that’s what it could put out. It would only be forced if it wouldn’t fit but it’s a NES games it in perfectly with the pixel graphics.

but yeah I don't know how you can't like the gameplay. it's quintessential shooting and platforming. the level design is hit or miss though. the disappearing block levels are terrible.

A lot of the weapons do end up being pretty useless outside of killing whatever boss is weak to them. 9 had a really fun mix though and I wish more of the games were like that.
The powers all just seem like the same shit. Either the spam the screen, move in circles, or go in straight lines with a bigger hitbox and 1.5x damage. It's not anything I was creaming my pants over
