Am making a romhack of this via hg-engine from github.
First thing I did was make all wild 'mons 100% female because I'm trying to figure out how to add moemon sprites to it.
Also removed all 'mons that aren't first or second gen because I mostly want a graphically updated GSC.
That said, I never played HGSS before so I had to google common gripes and the most relevant one was the level curve.
I'm thinking about scaling shit so that the league (after 8 badges) would be around level 70-80, and Kanto would cover the last 80-100.

How would (You) fix it?
Anything else you'd do? HGSS romhacking is sadly not as advanced and open as Emerald/FRLG are, but trainer parties, wild encounters and some other shit is editable.

      How would you fix the HGSS level curve?

      Frick off homosexual, I don't want mons shoehorned where they don't belong. I'm playing Johto and Kanto so I want Johto and Kanto 'mons. If I wanted GBC graphics I'd play a GBC romhack. Did I mention that? No, I didn't.

      FPBP, OP is a homosexual for removing mons let alone not adding more to the romhack. I would've added up to gen 9 and kept all Pokemon's movepools, typing, abilities, and stats faithful to vanilla Pokemon with a few up to date tweaks.

        Then simply add all the mons, but add in the regional sounds so the others mons are optional.

        Can't do that yet without madlad hackergodz skills which I clearly lack, plus later gens are literal shit.

        I'd raise levels from the first route onwards and reduce the gap between Victory Road (average level of wild Pokémon: 35) and League (average level of Lance: 45)

        Yeah, again, level curve is a GREAT thing since it doesn't punish you for doing gyms 5-7 in different orders encouraging you to explore, AND it's the main factor for what makes the red battle the most iconic, loved, and popular to this day.

        But due to that, it becomes a slog because no matter where you go you're stuck facing low-level mons after the fourth gym. Plus it's not like you can't reliably win against 'mons ten level above yours since we aren't a lobotomized trainer-tier AI.

    Do HG/SS have enough Kanto content to justify scaling it 1-60 like RBY?
    Ideally you'd run through Johto with Johto mons, then go to Kanto and pick a Kanto-only party. Since it's a romhack add Kanto starters as gifts or wild encounters or whatever.

      it has the same number of route and dungeon trainers as johto, there just isn't any hm gating or rocket grunts (who drop very little exp anyway)

        Fug, that's good. So you could theoretically scale Kanto like Johto (Route 1: levels 2+, Victory Road: levels 35+) and play it like it was RBY/FRLG minus the plot?

    How would you fix the HGSS level curve?

    Ideally I'd just deal with GBA-tier graphics, dump FRLG's Kanto into Emerald, steal the tilesets from a GBA GSC remake to add Johto and get Hoenn too, but I don't have the mental fortitude to put all that effort currently. Plus I never played HGSS despite having played Gold at release...

    While you're there, also remove the homosexualry that is morning-only and night-only 'mons. I'm not a kid anymore sadly, so I need everything available whenever I have time to play. Plus frick the game for telling you what you can and can't do based on the outside world.

          it affects daily events, but you can just change the clock to 23:59 and have it roll over to access them again

    Add the Crystal encounters too! In Route 46 you could catch Phanpy! It was a treat to get it so early in Crystal, but they removed that in HGSS.

    Why the frick does everyone want shitmons in their romhack?
    We all know that most Pokémon past generation 3 are shit fakemon-tier.
    At least make a custom dex with only the decent ones.
