It was a different time and without being there you unironically, genuinely, literally could not understand.

I miss Blinx so bad bros. Literally my first mascot video game i played back when I was maybe 5 or 6. The vibrant colors, music, the awesome intro in the Time Factory. the concept of bending reality to control time like a TV remote at you own will. It was amazing back then. And I love Blinx himself. He’s always been one of my fav characters just from the first game alone (never cared much for the sequel). The plot was pretty cool too; an entire world has been corrupted and is on the brink of ruin. The higher-ups of the time factory seal off the world to protect the other worlds like amputating an infected limb. All of the Timesweepers are scrambling to get out of there out of there, but Blinx ALONE rushes in, stands at the portal, and jumps in knowing he has to save them. Goddamn I loved this game, flawed as it may be.

I once had a dream when I was a little kid where I was a lone human boy trapped in a similar scenario as the humans in the game. I think I was in an alleyway between two brick buildings, and there was fog everywhere. I was just “waking up” from the after effects of the time stasis of the world being frozen in time, and I see a bunch of the Timesweepers running around cleaning things up and prepping to leave the world, and they’re a bit surprised I’m awake before they left. I wanted to know who they were and what happened. I don’t remember the details but they said something short but kinda awesome to me as a kid, then I look behind me in the fog is cleared, and I see people walking past the alleyway, and I turn to face my front again, and the time sweepers are gone. And I was sad they were gone… but I was happy to know they saved the world.

Problem with JP covers is that they usually would have less busy visuals but don't make up for it with something interesting unless they are outright showing the whole cast of the game (super mario RPG remake is a good modern example of what I mean) or in the case of RE4 for example the more minimal look is so unique it doesn't even fit the game, americans have the opposite problem where it needs to be as attention grabbing as possible

          >draw a dude that looks remotely androgynous if you don't look at it directly
          >call it a non-binary
It's like this is the PG version of gender identity shit?, I can see a lot of devs doing it just to get woke shit out of the way without having to change anything about the character, saying it's non-binary tells literally nothing about it even "asexual" back in the day when that was cool had more implications

            Anonymous

The thing with non-binary is that it's purely a label thing with zero physical characteristics required for it (because it's for attention seekers). They could given him some giant breasts and they'd still be able to call him non-binary

I'd accept calling Mario better, but no Sonic game is as good as Blinx. Blinx is a puzzle platformer, Sonic is a sleep check (the game from time to time performs actions to confirm you're not sleeping)

They said the era of game mascots was dead and prefered to focus on Halo. They literally had Blinx 2 releasing in the same day as Halo 2 and the game flopped hard predictably.

They knew the game was going to be shit so they took the decision to kill it this way.
Then they made Voodoo Vince as a new attempt to bring a mascot to Xbox, and that failed too, the game was kinda shitty and not comparable to Pshchonauts, which became a cult hit.

Don't forget, this was around the same time Microsoft stole Halo from Apple. They literally sabotaged one mascot for another. 20 years later, Yuji Naka is in jail and Microsoft currently owns Banjo, Crash and Spyro. I wonder if Ohshima would ever consider reviving Blinx.

If Blinx 1 was remade I'm sure the game would be better critically claimed. Because the game is GOOD. It only really needs some tweaks in the gameplay.

You can't make Sonic Adventure a good game in any way no matter how much you polish that turd. Sega tried.

          No.

          More like a full overhaul.
          >You can't make Sonic Adventure a good game in any way no matter how much you polish that turd. Sega tried.
          Precisely.

            >No
            It's a simple puzzle/platform game.

How to make it good: improve the character movement (especially in slippery stages) and camera.
I think that would be it, really. You don't need to make much else to turn this into an interesting game.
Everything else could remain as is because it works well as a puzzle game.

Sonic however? How would you improve that turd? The stages are unsalvageable.

              >It's a simple puzzle/platform game.
Correct, it's anno domini MMXXIII, and puzzle platformers have struggled HARD outside nintendo's pikmin 4, and even then that one is being carried hard by nostalgia not being all that great.
              >How to make it good: improve the character movement (especially in slippery stages) and camera.
The camera would help, but that doesn't change that the puzzle element that blinx has is extremely bland, it consists of going onto an arena and kill a set number of enemies that hardly target you or clean rubble from a path, sometimes it adds the time warp mechanic but that's 100% optional so you may as well ignore it outside of like 4 key points in the game, so again, the puzzle mechanic is not good, it's there but even the game disregards it.
              >I think that would be it, really. You don't need to make much else to turn this into an interesting game. The story of Blinx is you are a jobber of the time factory, which regulates and controls time, which is represented as different crystal shapes because...??? then a band of thieves take over a dimension and fricks with the time stream so the jobbers have to unfrick it. The titular Blinx however doesn't go fix the problem, he decides to confront the theves because they have a 10 year old captive and he has a boner for her, BASED.
              >Everything else could remain as is because it works well as a puzzle game.
The layout of the levels is terrible too, there's barely anything to save
              >Sonic however? How would you improve that turd? The stages are unsalvageable.
              Correct.
