                >Ireland's famine was caused by natural disease.
Irish dependency on potatoes was a direct consequence of the scarcity of good farmland, being the only crop with a large enough yield at such a small scale, because the majority of farmland was being used to produce grain and other expensive crops intended for export by English authorities; export which continued all the way through the famine.
                >Bangladesh famine was primarily caused by flooding after they had just been at war with Pakistan and their infrastructure had been destroyed.
It was policy of the British colonial rule to just kinda let it happen, again.
                >USSR's famine was self inflicted due to Dekulakization.
So we're going to ignore that they had just been at war and their infrastructure had been destroyed? And that during the famine, the poor maligned kulaks were setting fire to crops rather than see them seized by the Red Army to be redistributed?

Wasn't "this book" written like a couple of centuries ago? How is it still applicable after all of that? Economic theories are changing every 50-100 years. How is "this book" still relevant?

If you'd bother to read it you'd see how amazingly appliccable it still is. Capitalism hasn't changed.

                >So we're going to ignore that they had just been at war and their infrastructure had been destroyed?
It is applicable for famine of 1921 but not for holodomor which happened 15 years after the war.
                >And that during the famine, the poor maligned kulaks were setting fire to crops rather than see them seized by the Red Army to be redistributed?
Wasn't enough for famine of such scale. Main reason is government issued policies that aimed for two major goals: industrialisation and dispossession of all property

Max Payne 3 is actually a brilliant video game sequel. They knew comparisons would be inevitable, so what do they do? They intentionally distance themselves from the original.

    Originals:
    >Dreamlike and symbolic atmosphere
    >Max in the city he has lived in all his life
    >Hurting but competent, employed by police
    >Stakes are personal
    >Justice is dispensed from the barrel of a gun

    MP3:
    >Gritty and realistic atmosphere
    >Max in a foreign country. doesn't speak the language
    >Washed-up, tired, unemployed at first, later employed by corrupt politicians
    >Unsure why he's there, hired to do a job
    >Reluctant to resort to violence (but forced to resort to it anyway); instigating event is an ill-advised violent intervention

MP3 is essentially a fish out of water story. They took this over-the-top noir character and put him in the wrong game; Max himself doesn't even seem to want to be there. He goes from fighting for deeply personal reasons to become an ambivalent mercenary for wealthy elites for reasons that aren't even clear to him. But in the end he manages to find some purpose, embraces his role as someone who is basically good at shooting people instead of continuing to resist it, and manages to drag some sort of victory out of the whole mess. It is impossible for me not to read this as a meta commentary on itself, a sequel that maybe should not have been there, that exists not for personal reasons but to capitalise on a big IP, a game that knew it would not live up to the originals and that it had to struggle to find its own identity instead of trying to do what the originals did and inevitably failing.

The 'somewhat' intelligent statement I'm going to try and make is the homosexual commies are right in that we live in something resembling late-stage capitalism in the regard that a handful of companies have essentially 'won' and monopolized the companies they own to the detriment of everyone.
Ideally the government is supposed to break up monopolies, encourage competition, prevent industries and companies from becoming too top heavy, encourage and protect the growth of the middle-class, that kind of thing. That hasn't happened though - America has adopted "too big to fail" as an official policy and uncompetitive companies are not only *not allowed to fail* but are completely protected from their own mistakes and free to not only continue to make moronic business decisions but also buy buy more businesses, more franchises, removing competition, making entire industries more monolithic and homogenous, as they enforce the same moronic decisions that made them unprofitable to begin with.

It's kind of the idea that Microsoft doesn't *actually* know how to make money anymore, but they have so much money from possessing a completely tapped home computer market, that they don't have to worry about really making any kind of intelligent decision. But, they're still expected to expand, so what do they do? They buy companies: Rare, Lionhead Studios, Nokia, Activison, Mojang, they make numerous acquisitions that give the 'illusion' of growth - maybe even make a couple shitty new products/games as a write off, and then when they don't make money (or the amount of money they think they need to make) they fire most of the staff and just sit on the IPs forever. Which isn't really a big deal given that the point was never to make products but just the mindless pursuit of "number go up".

Profits are privatized, losses are socialized. It's fricking rigged, always has been. Capitalists can band together and influence government policy through bribery and it's democratic, but workers can't bargain collectively and strike without the President signing a bill making it illegal. We're told to idolize and sympathize with millionaires and billionaires even as they use tax dollars to offset their losses and suppress free association. Land of the free.

Sure but "too big to fail" is a form of neo-corporatism, not capitalism.
And all of those ideals of what the government 'should' do are categorically evil. The middle class actually literally doesn't deserve to grow if they frick themselves over, they're not entitled to the productivity of those who are productive just because you can make an emotional appeal for it.
The government simply needs to categorically reject the marxist ideas of hierarchically relative morality and a moral duty to upend everything that's good and works but isn't perfect.

Max Payne 1 was Remedy having amazing techology for the time, but no story. Sam Lake came up with the most generic cop drama he could come up with and it troped so hard it looped and became good. Max Payne 2 he actually sat down and wrote a proper script, you can see they leant more on the story with how much more in-game cutscenes there are. Max Payne 3 was written by Dan Hauser who is known to take the piss out of American culture like in the GTA games.

So communistic countries are only comparable with countries decades or hundreds years before them. Got you fellas. But why would anyone want to switch away from capitalism?

      >But why would anyone want to switch away from capitalism?
Well, there's a book on that

Wasn't "this book" written like a couple of centuries ago? How is it still applicable after all of that? Economic theories are changing every 50-100 years. How is "this book" still relevant?

you could read any of the hundreds of 21st century Marxist writers instead.
Economics is a fake field these days, they're just cheerleaders for the ruling class. Hence why every university has a business department separate from the fake econ one.

            >Economics is a fake field
This is not an argument. Basically you are dismissing works of different schools of economics because... you personally don't like them?

            [...]
If you'd bother to read it you'd see how amazingly appliccable it still is. Capitalism hasn't changed.

Yeah, in the same way as the gold standard is still a relevant monetary system

I can look at the millions of people who were killed in the hands of those marxist writers and conclude that the whole ideology is evil bullshit and purposefully so.

    >Capitalism is superior compared to any other alternative

    >Companies doing bad things(Slave labor in poor countries, buying land and collecting natural resources, using their money to manipulate culture, laws, and government, union busting, artificial scarcity) isn't Capitalism
    >Companies chasing profits any means necessary(Monopolies, greedy shit for more money(mtx shit in vidya for example), paying shitty wages for people who work harder than CEOs every day, suburban experiment and oil/car company lobbying, housing market in general) isn't Capitalism

    >Artists making art is Capitalism

Max Payne 3 writing is so bad it ruins the game. Nevermind the gameplay, the setting, the unskippable boring cutscenes. The writing alone makes it trash.
It tries so hard to sound poetic and flowery but it comes across as so unbelievably blunt and lacking any kind of style. I've never seen anything like it. Whoever wrote that shit actually thought he was writing noir gold
    >heh, kiddo, I've got this gun on my, a sidepiece of you will and it is loaded with bullets that are made of metal and I will make bullet shapes holes in your body with it, like some renegade from the TV show The Renegade staring Lozenzo Lamas
