Where do you guys go to find neat obscure games? Hardcore Gaming 101? Are there YT channels you watch? It seems like every couple months I hear about a great old game that isn't in the top 100 listicles, but idk where to find such things consistently.

Everything you mentioned + other retro forums + looking through lists of translated games on RHDN + randomly picking games from Wikipedia lists of every game for consoles.
I read old magazines in retromags or archive.org and check the longplay on youtube.
I had a youtube channel I watched, they would show off every interesting indie coming out that week, so once a week it was like G4 when it was good you know.
Couldn't you just play old games and find the hidden ones?
Most old games are bad and not worth playing
You don't have to beat them
Dragon view and drakkhen are bad games.
Nah.
You are unironically stupid
I was in that thread where this game was mentioned. Side scroll game with overworld map. Haven't played it more than 5 minutes but it was intriguing and never seen it mentioned until last week.
On the subject, I get my recommendations from this board. Also cdromance has a translations section with updates every now and then.
Download romset and just do a "game zapping" randomly playing games for 5 minutes each.
Also worth mentioning that most consoles have specific subreddits with users that know the library well. It can be better to check those than the general retro gaming subs.

I just try random games. I also don't let public opinion influence me trying something that sounds interesting. For example I gave Virtual Hydlide a shot and actually found it pretty enjoyable despite all the flaws.
Have any of you tried to give it a try to every game in a rom set? It's a nice way to find obscure games.
When these games originally came out I read every review that existed for each one. Then later in life I used my photographic memory when encountering them again. "There's that mother fricker..." I would mutter to myself as we'd cross paths.
Play and sample more games.
>Where do you guys go to find neat obscure games?
...I don't? I know about them, because I grew up in that generation?
Dragon View is great! I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power but never saw it in a rental store or out collecting. I didn't play it until a few years ago. It reminds me of Zelda 2, kinda. Anyway...
>I read tons of game magazines growing up and re-read them as an adult so I catch a lot of obscure stuff going through those.
>I got the internet during the initial emulation boom so there were tons of websites where people would document, review and mock weird and obscure games they'd dig up on ROM sites.
>I also used HG101 a lot before their terrible Web 2.0 redesign a few years ago.
>I also watch a lot of chrongaming stuff (Chrontendo, specifically) which has brought to my attention some very weird stuff I was never aware of.
So here is how you find stuff. You have to learn to be a judge if character. When you find a hood outlet take in the aestetic of the site, the username. the formatting. Etc. Your goal is to find out what a passionate expert looks like.
I can judge a website by the name n ou w with 95% accuracy. And I spit on anyone who is not a passionate expert. I feel like I have obtained the mindset of 1800s aristocrats that knows all the good painters and operas and snubs their nose
