>and in that sense, Baldur's Gate 3 is a success. It may not be inarguably great, but it sometimes scales a peak much higher than that, to moments of perfection where its systems align in elegant or surprising ways.
Wow, strong words coming from him.

He moved so far after that video, improving his writing skills immensely since then.
Also, he's a really cool guy. Watch one of his streams, you'll see what I'm talking about.
Zero ego issues, real love for gaming.

His videos are simple, they talk about the games he's supposed to be reviewing and his opinions are clear and have substance. His long form stuff doesn't feel padded, his streams are funny, he has a cool accent and a good sense of humor.

Sometimes I have an itch to watch some interesting games analysis because I really love the medium and it's painful that no other channel has really scratched it. I've watched all his videos a dozen times by now. The other homosexuals on youtube are mostly just annoying manchildren with the most grating voices imaginable.

Are there any channels that make videos on par with Matthew? I've watched some others but they are always boring, long-winded and often ignorant rants. They think longer videos and autistic attention to irrelevant details are analysis when they really aren't.

You don't apprecite Tim Rogers' Action Button reviews? Was an acquired taste for me, but ended up as a favorite along Matthewmatosis. All that long rambling beyond the games turned out to provide interesting and refreshing points of view.

Tim Rogers is a brilliant writer- like legitimately genius in terms of prose and wit- but he's kind of insufferable whenever he swerves into a winding tangent about his personal life. I guess the whole point is that we're supposed to see how he personally connects to the media but I really didn't need an hour long segment about all the cool antique jackets that you bought for cheap just to prove a point about how 'authenticity' can't be reduced to a price tag when ironically these jackets were purchased in obscure markets hundred if not thousands of miles apart and the average person wouldn't have the means nor opportunity to zigzag accross the world in search of memorabilia, hence the existence of high-pricetag 'authentic' clothing lines in the first place.

That being said I loved his tokimeki memorial video.

          That's a good review, and I agree.
That jacket thing was about authenticity having a history, and concluding that a mass marketed video game can't really be authentic, or valued in the same way, in these times.
I wouldn't listen to anyone else going for that kind of long topic, but Tim manages to be entertaining. It's a ballsy move, one that can easily be screwed up, even by a talented writer (and it was a close one).

Yeah, I understood the point. I even agree to a large extent. I just think he kind of trotted out these flea market goodies as a sort of viable alternative or 'entry point into the Authentic' for the average person when really it's only a sliver of the population that can actually afford to consistently participate in this sphere.

I agree, and it tested my patience a bit since I'm not really into fashion or such things, and they weren't the best of examples, but I guess it's a subject he's into and knowledgeable about, and it was sufficient as a vehicle for what he was trying to say.

It'd be odd to see him talking about CRPGs given that the vast majority of his videos are either hyper-niche indie games or overt giga-mainstream titles.

He likes GAMES and rarely gives a shit or comments on the story. He sees it as something that exists to amplify the gameplay. I suspect he wouldn't like it at all.

What the frick are you talking about? He loves story based games like Phoenix Wright, 999, and Steins Gate.

        Anonymous

That's not entirely true, he likes TLOU and Death Stranding. Ghost Trick is one of his favorite games which isn't something that's enjoyable purely because of gameplay. Pretty sure he's a SMT fan as well. Might be other examples I can't remember but it's certainly not like he dislikes stories, I mean his videos are really well written especially the microvideos and of course the metavideo. Don't think you can be such a good writer and then not like games that are story focused.

I'm sure he's autistically trying his hardest to create one. Last I heard he set out to make his own engine...
I just hope his autism will run out before his money will, and he will be able to push the game without trying to move it to absolute perfection, as he used to.

How come North Ireland isn't a part of regular Ireland?

because regular Ireland hasn't joined the UK yet

Ireland wanted independence from England. England was like "right sure ok we'll give you a referendum and the places that want to stay with us can stay with us".
      Northern Ireland voted to stay.

        Anonymous

Why did they want to stay? I thought England treated them like shit.

          Anonymous

Then you get into the religious aspect of it.
Southern Ireland is Catholic, and Northern Ireland is Protestant (mostly).
The Protestantism that the North follows is Anglicanism, of which the British King or Queen is the head, like the Pope is the head of the Catholic church.
So the protestants in the North, really REALLY want to be a part of the UK because the King is literally their Pope, and the actual Pope is a corrupt antichrist.
Meanwhile the Catholics in the South really REALLY don't want to be a part of the UK because the UK's religious beliefs are heretical nonsense.
The Protestants in Ireland were treated better by the English.
Though all this stuff happened centuries ago, the Irish aren't quick to forget any of it, even if no-one believes in God anymore.

      Anonymous

Ulster (the area that mostly belongs to Northern Ireland) had a great deal more protestants in it than the rest of Ireland (a very Catholic country) mostly due to English settlements in the area. As a result, protestants had quite a hold on the area that make up Northern Ireland, and wanted to remain a part of the UK after it was decided that Ireland would separate. This caused problems for years on end because there were still quite a few Catholics in the area who felt loyalty to Ireland and wanted to be out of the UK immediately. Thus, the Troubles and whatnot.
