I don't know at this point. BG3 came out swinging hard, but now its seeming like the hype for it is starting to die down (especially here). Now with Spiderman coming out soon and everyone hyping up Phantom Liberty coming out in a few weeks too, they are going to be hogging the attention from now until TGA. Meaning that we look back at the whole year again instead of just "what has the most hype at the moment". If that's the case, it's going to be TotK. but I secretly want Starfield to win so I can see the absolute meltdown Ganker would go through
BG3 is still pulling a ton of players for a single player RPG and it's so goddamn long it will continue to pull right up until award season. I also don't think TotK is a game that deserves the award personally, and the talk of the game around here died like in a week except to gloat about units sold. The entire conversation around TotK has actually been incredibly weird. I've never seen a game where the talk shifted to sales so fast and actual talk about the game was essentially abandoned.
True about BG3, but that's true of a lot of CRPGs since, while the audience isnt a big as others, it's definitely a dedicate bunch who can even keep OG Baldur's Gate relevant. Same with other popular CRPGs like Pathfinder: WotK. It's a HUGE game for the CRPG genre yes and it did, for a moment, make people look at CRPGs again, but that energy is definitely starting to go back down again to the CRPG and DnD tabletop faithfuls and I attribute that entirely to the gameplay.
I can still see it winning, but it's not a lock. Not with Tears being touted as a "miracle game" when it came out as well as various other headlines (remember BG3 wasn't the ONLY one with those kinds of articles written about it) and with Spiderman 2 already making people who have "played some of the game" say it's worth buying a PS5 for. For Ganker specifically, it's obviously BG3 or maybe Starfield for the seethe. Outside of Ganker, it's very much open to BG3, Tears, soon to be Spiderman, Phantom Liberty (even though it's DLC, people are still going to go crazy for this), and maybe a nod to FFXVI and Starfield as honorable mentions.
Bg3 deserves it but if Tears is picked it'd be because it's a huge AAA Nintendo title that sold over 20 million copies and hits a sweet spot between being extremely accessible, so it on average filters less voters, but has some 'innovative' design aspects to make voters feel validated in voting for it. Tears just seems like a safer pick
I wouldn't be mad about Tears though. I get that we're on Ganker where nobody likes TotK, but that really has been my go to game of the games that came out this year. The only other one is Hi Fi Rush, but we all know that doesn't have ANY chance.

Fast forward to today and it's still a meaningless award given out during hours of free marketing for other games.
