I'm planning on doing so too, but I think I'm still relying on too many windows applications. Is there a way to run windows applications on Linux?

          Anonymous

yes, most likely. or there are alternatives. I've been using linux on my laptop since 2010 and the solutions for replacement Windows software that I've found work for me.
You'll need to do some research and figure out the pros and cons that work for you. Not because Linux is worse than Windows, it's just NOT Windows and you may experience some baby duck syndrome for the first month or so, which is normal.

          Yes, with WINE
you can try and look up your program in the compatibility database
          https://appdb.winehq.org/index.php
if that doesn't work you can also try running a windows virtual machine if your computer is relatively new though getting graphically heavy things to run in them can be a challenge

You have a fricking nvme and 3090, almost nothing you said ever comes into play when your PC is that powerful. You can get UI mods for practically no overhead with a system that powerful, older games running faster on a 3090 is irrelevant because you are going to get whatever fps your monitor can handle, power savings crap is meaningless on a desktop, the list goes on.

And yes I do use these for my work everyday and no I'm not going to use an emulator (wine) to run it, nor will I use a shitty browser-based alternative such as microsoft365 web or googledocs.
I'm not going to go out of my way to compile UE5 on linux just so that linux users don't have to use proton (which works fine).
Adobe products will never be supported on linux.
X-org and wayland both fricking suck.

I duelboot linux but I never use it, because when I do use it for any of my creative work, I run into a roadblock where it's easier to just switch back to windows instead of fighting with it.

it's easier to just do all your work on a windows install then frick with any of that. what linuxgays fail to realize in this thread is that people don't want to waste time when they can use something that already just works perfectly fine.

                Control panel has that
Why would you need the overlay?
                Dont need GFE to overclock
                Use a plugin
                Ok?

                Anonymous

I didn't see it in the control panel in Linux. Also it's different in GFE.
                To monitor FPS or temps.
One less program to run in the background.
Such as? I did use an audio one at one stage however its support has been dropped, but also found out it was causing performance issues unironically.
And yes, that is a must. Some anti-cheats block OBS or require desktop mode.

                Anonymous

All GFE does is tick boxes in the control panel, its just fancy so morons can navigate it. That includes updating drivers.
Use something like HWmonitor then, much less bloat.
Having lower bloat programs is better than having one bloatfilled shit one that does everything.
Took me 5 seconds to find a recording plugin for obs
What anticheat blocks obs in 2023?

                Anonymous

NVIDIA control panel does not allow for overclocking, performance overlay, recording, and the sharpening filter algorithm is different.
HWMonitor can display framerates, frametimes and be in a good compact box on the corner of my screen?
Mind sharing it? Because any pre-2021 won't work on newer versions.
CS2 and Battlefield 2042 didn't, at least for a while. I'm thinking of MSI Afterburner rather that didn't play well with anti-cheats.

                Anonymous

Thats why you use other less bloated programs. You're obviously concerned about programs running in the back hogging up resources then have GFE running all the time rather than sticking some lightweight programs on your other monitor in the rare instance you need to monitor something?

That's not the way and you should have known that. Doing shit because other teenagers say it's kool is wetoddid.

Wipe that shit, install Windows then invest a couple of years learning Linux in VMs only if you have a professional need for something it does. Most users are better off with Windows but this enrages evanglists who are young therefore stupid. I've used Linux since 1999 and prefer it but I NEVER suggest it to anyone else because users should already be highly skilled, self-selected and not care about childish garbage like gaymes. If you're still young enough to game stick with Windows and enjoy your new machine.

People tell you to install Linux for the same reason women tell each other to get pregnant, VALIDATION.

Here's some quotes from the creator of Linux.

    https://stallman.org/articles/political-articles.html
    >Although generally supportive of President Hugo Chávez, Stallman has criticised some policies on television broadcasting, free speech rights, and personal privacy rights, in meetings with Chávez and in public speeches in Venezuela.

    >I'm skeptical of that picture, because on March 4, Greg Palast reported that Chavez had done something very sensible: he had raised taxes on oil being exported from Venezuela (from 16% to 32%, I have read elsewhere) to pay for social programs. In other words, he insisted that the rich countries that buy the oil must let Venezuela, a poor country, have a substantial share of the value of that oil.

    >As the Republicans get more right-wing, the Democrats follow them, staying just one step behind. That will continue as long as right-wing Democrats can get elected by saying that the Republicans are worse.
    >I didn't vote for the Republicans who started these nasty policies and I won't vote for Democrats that support them either. Thus, the only Democrats I will support are those who are strong and principled progressives.
    >Thus, my vote is for Jill Stein for president. Until someone worthy of FDR's memory is the Democratic candidate for president, I will continue voting Green.

There's nothing stopping you from selling free software. I'm sorry free software isn't compatible with the American brand of capitalism, where you cannibalize your own society for profit. I'm sorry you are so brain rotten that you think that's the only way to do capitalism in the first place.

                Read a book sometime.

They will just stop testing on win7 that is all.
they know that modern chromium won't work on win7 after they discontinue older version. You can still force chromium to work on win7 and steam will still run on win7.
