I don't know about other people, but I haven't been paying attention to the "official" stuff for a very long time at this point. Never looked much at anything after Newcrons for 40k or Age of Sigmar for fantasy.
I think most people out there still only remember the 40k from their youth, and have just now been snapped out of that by recent "updates" making a splash that can no longer be ignored.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Just because they "own" the IP doesn't mean the rest of us can't tell good stories.
I'm no star wars fan but I got it for free on epic I think and played it a bit. They make her switch sides and I didn't really play past that. The campaign was kinda all over the place where you play as luke too. The multiplayer seemed alright? It was end of life though so they gave everything for free but I remember reading that they planned a soul draining grind on release.
Pretty sure that's how most people feel. Even the diehard communists that play 40k have their own idea of what 40k is and it conflicts with what GW is going for. 40k has always been a setting that's better in your head than its actual inclusion.
I feel sorry for Battletech nerds, they were one of the few universal hobbies where the only limitations to "inclusivity" was that chicks don't like big robots with wienerpits.
Plenty of girls at my game store who love painting. They were also not happy about the lore in our group chat, though none of them are moronic enough to even consider a custodes army.

They’re battle line troops for the custodes, so you can have more models on the table top and absorb some damage. They are both the household troops of the emperor and realistically I think it’s stupid that custodes are included in 40K at all, they and the sisters of silence should be HH models only since fighting on terra is the norm there. Having custodes accompany Guilliman on the indomitus crusade makes sense more wise, if you really wrap your brain around it, but I would never expect to see them fighting in ground based battles unless there was a direct threat to terra or the emperor. People like to paint custodes so I get why they sell them but they’re a pretty weak army on table top in general, mostly because, as you said, most custodes players don’t even want to field SoS and thus have no cheap cannon fodder units that can move fast or scout. Custodes as a table top army are not great as they’re extremely inflexible. I’ve never lost against my custodes buddy (he only plays custodes or grey knights, so of course not, lol), but I myself am a bit of melee hoard guy in general, I only run black Templar or ork lists because they both have awesome models and both are really fun to play, have great contrast in my amaggedon diorama, and are a blast to paint.

Recently my 3rd party Tzeentch daemons came to supplement my TS warband, I'm a bit down in the dumps, buut I will probably assemble and start to paint them this year.
Slight touch ups for the giggles, but they still made her uglier.

This, even in the old John Blanche art (may the emperor bestow his favour upon him) SoS and Custodes are the household troops of the emperor and were often illustrated together. They are not female custodes, but their female equivalent. Extremely rare, extremely powerful anti psykers and witch hunters who are almost never seen outside of the emperors palace or the black ships
The only reason ADB gave for no female Custodes was because GW didn't want him to because they already came out with all the models being male. Lorewise he pushed for it.

They’re battle line troops for the custodes, so you can have more models on the table top and absorb some damage. They are both the household troops of the emperor and realistically I think it’s stupid that custodes are included in 40K at all, they and the sisters of silence should be HH models only since fighting on terra is the norm there. Having custodes accompany Guilliman on the indomitus crusade makes sense more wise, if you really wrap your brain around it, but I would never expect to see them fighting in ground based battles unless there was a direct threat to terra or the emperor. People like to paint custodes so I get why they sell them but they’re a pretty weak army on table top in general, mostly because, as you said, most custodes players don’t even want to field SoS and thus have no cheap cannon fodder units that can move fast or scout. Custodes as a table top army are not great as they’re extremely inflexible. I’ve never lost against my custodes buddy (he only plays custodes or grey knights, so of course not, lol), but I myself am a bit of melee hoard guy in general, I only run black Templar or ork lists because they both have awesome models and both are really fun to play, have great contrast in my amaggedon diorama, and are a blast to paint.
Femstodes are actually fine, they're the type of jigsaw piece that is the wrong one but still fits the blank spot. They're not a total disgrace to the setting but the way they're introduced is utterly garbage.

Something similar is going to happen with Witcher 4, it's canon that only men can go through the witcher trials (because it's a process specifically designed for them, even just eating witcher food fricks with Ciri's hormones and Triss has to fix it). But the 4th game is rumored to have a character creator so they'll probably strike that bit from canon.
That last problem can be solved by not having a witcher as the main character.
