Hi there. So I work for Electric Square. We're mainly known for developing Warped Kart Racers. A well reviewed kart racing game featuring the cast of some FOX Animation series as racers.
We also developed Miami/Forza Street, but we've learned a lot since then and we prefer to be judged by Warped..
I don't want to reveal what department I work in, or reveal any images as it would definitely get me found out, but I've been wanting to talk about this for so long and I'm feeling impulsive.
Our next game is planned to be announced in the next few months. It's a battle royale game featuring a massive cast of characters from FOX animated series (Family Guy, King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers, American Dad, Krapopolis, etc.) but with a twist.
The gameplay is more akin to Smash Bros. However, the maps have verticality and horizontal movement in mind as the maps are well beyond just one screen like you see in Smash Bros and similar games. The maps are very large to accommodate as many players as they can (currently 25, but we're aiming to move it up to 50 with an update sometime after it's released) and scroll up and down depending as you move and platform around the maps. The battle zone does get smaller as the match goes on, in the vein of Fortnite and other Battle Royales
Each player has 3 lives per match. When all those lives are gone you have the opportunity to spectate. You also are gifted a burger every 30 seconds until the match ends. You get a cursor that allows you to aim and throw your burgers in the direction of remaining players. The burgers also stack up until the end of the match if you don't use them. You are able to purchase extra burgers as dlc if you want.
Once the battles get down to the last 2 combatants the battle zone and the screen zooms in significantly.

Oh, and we plan to stealth release it Holiday season 2023. Initially it will just be for Xbox Game Pass and Apple Arcade, but after our early exclusivity agreements with those companies are up, we plan to release it for PS5 and Switch 2 as well.

We aren't currently working on a PC port. It's definitely something possible though in the future.

We have devkits for Nintendo's next system as many companies now have. I'm definitely not going any further on this as to not jeopardize our relationship or our publishers relationship with Nintendo.

Warped Kart Racers has actually done really good numbers on Apple Arcade. It's the main reason this game was greenlit. However, becoming multiplatform is definitely because we need a larger userbase than just Apple Arcade. Especially for a battle royale.
We don't have access to Simpson's characters. We're hoping that will change if the game is successful.

We unfortunately weren't able to able to use them for Warped Kart Racing, but given this is a live service game we're crossing our fingers for more.

Yes, Stelio is in the roster actually. Anyone who is in the main cast of a show is included, as well as a handful of recurring characters like the aforementioned.

It's real, and I certainly hope that isn't the case. We're pretty proud of what we've done. I feel once people play it they'll realize how fun it is. There's no other battle royale game that has our mechanics.

I won't lie, there are some clones as in any Smash clone. However, it kind of works given only one person is allowed to play as a character per match. That way if someone chooses your preferred character you'll have other options that won't totally throw off your play-style.
The clones themselves all have tweaked stats which makes it less egregious.

If people naturally want to play as Peter, they should be allowed to do so. The image of everyone potentially being the same might seem silly, but it is infinitely more preferable to the alternative, because that will only breed resentment among people who will not choose to see the reason why it is that way. Instead they will find the time to both complain they can't play as the character they want, and then also complain that all the characters play the same, without ever connecting those two. I can promise you without a doubt this is what will happen with the average moron that plays games, and you're courting people who watch modern cartoons which is a step below that.

Yes to your first question.
And you have two camera options. One is zoomed in to focus on you and whoever you're currently in combat with. The other zooms out so you can see a much larger portion of the map and combatants.
Nope. But our early exclusivity agreement with Xbox Game Pass and Apple Arcade lasts one year. So if the Switch 2 hypothetically comes out Holiday 2024 it's possible it can be a launch title.
However, we don't know when the console officially releases.

The burgers are only for spectator mode and will carry over to your next match if unused. Depending on if players abuse that function it might be changed after release. We'll wait and see.
You can also buy more burgers in the food truck (basically are micro-transaction shop). I'll make it clear though, that our game is NOT P2W. Purchases in the shop currently only are planned to include burgers, and character skins. Depending on the game''s success we'll likely add more. We want the game to be just as fun for free players as it is for players willing to spend.
People will complain regardless. Giving people the ability to all play the same character will not be a good image in our modern internet society.
Plus, it encourages people to try different characters which will only make them better at the game in the long-run.
And not all characters play the same. Yes, there are clones but there is a massive difference from how Peter plays to how Dale Gribble plays.
It does minor damage to the character, and if aimed just right it'll trip them which leaves them on the ground momentarily so other characters can get hits in until they recover.
You're thinking rationally like how someone should think when viewing the game as a whole and I fully understand where that is coming from. The problem is that is not how people think, frankly because of dumbed down games that force strict guides and handholding like what you propose, and I've been through the looking glass too often in such a scenario. You are right in that people will complain regardless, but you need to be able to judge the root of complaints and what will actively hold the game back in the eyes of randoms when it comes to their own flawed perceptions. That is not a battle you want to make harder on yourself, and this is not something that will pan out the way you want it to. Hard limitations are not encouragement but dictates, so simply believe in the strength of the roster and prioritise paving the way to learning the game, not dragging them along it kicking and screaming. The "modern internet society" bit has overplayed your hand, but if this does turn out to be real, you'll remember what I've said.

However, I'm hoping that you're incorrect simply because I really believe in the game and I like to think that gamers aren't basic as you think.

I liked thinking that too. Most are not anymore, but the key is that the not-basic ones can at times understand and articulate what issues are actually noteworthy, whereas others just demand things to be made easier and dumbed down and they are erroneously listened to at surface level en mass, fixing nothing. That is why I specify that their flawed perceptions can easily win out over intentional design and to look at the root cause of complaints. Make a game that rewards those willing to embrace its depth and the spectacle and flash will draw in the basic crowds already while those on the fence will be swayed by the former, but not if the latter are whining about people stealing their favourite characters. I point this out in particular because a near identical problem has been an issue with multiple games already.

We couldn't get the game to run on the Switch as well as we wanted it too. Especially given the game will include cross-platform play.
And as I mentioned before. We have the dev kits as do many other companies. It's real.

Also, we initially began developing the game while we were working on Warped. It's had a bit of a complicated development cycle though due to the litany of license issues we had to stumble through along the way.

Because we developed a pretty detailed pitch initially in our spare time before the game is officially greenlit. Especially given we've never made a fighting game before. The game was a labor of love from our team who grew up watching these shows.

We've already developed two racing games prior to Warped, which helped a lot when it came to that.
The crunch was mainly on Animation Domination because we wanted it to be the best it could be so it would be greenlit. We didn't want them to think it'd be a low effort game like Multiverses.
Why would you need to crunch when there's no deadline?
Because we had to finetune Warped, while working on an ambitious pitch at the same time.
And the deadline was to make sure we could pitch Animation Domination while our relationship with FOX was still fresh.
The game was known to all of our team, but we had to have the pitch greenlit by FOX before we could officially go forward with the intention of release. If they denied the pitch it would unfortunately would've been canned right away.

Yes, but significantly less characters than the other shows. Right now we just have Fry, Bender, Zoidberg, Leela,and Zapp Brannigan. We definitely plan to add more in the future.
Which series are eligible to be included? I highly doubt shows like Axe Cop, High School USA, or Allen Gregory are gonna be in the game if it does exist.
Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, King of the Hill, Krapopolis, The Great North, American Dad, Cleaveland Show, Axe Cop, and Futurama for the time being. There's not really too much else to work with but we'd like to hopefully be able to make agreements with Adult Swim for some of their series, but that unfortunately may just be a pipe dream.
Xbox Game Pass and Apple Arcade with a subscription during early access. It's not that they're simply sharing exclusivity (although that is kind of the case due to a complicated existing agreements that had to be amended), but we wanted the game on these subscription models first because it allows for a lot of users to try it out when they might not otherwise.
You will be able to buy it on Xbox initially but it'll likely be priced like Disney Dreamlight Valley until the game goes to freemium by the time the game is released on all consoles.

And no one will care because it's not smash, it's live service and it will probably be abandoned after the first two months when players stop showing up. Again the battle royal aspect isn't a selling feature because the bandwagon is long long departed.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has been unbelievably successful and it's just Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon with Disney characters as villagers. It's a very good game, but hardly original and relies on consumer nostalgia.
There is a huge market for that sort of thing.
