This post articulates my biggest issue with 1800. I like the atmosphere. I like the supply chain city builder stuff. The non-builder stuff is largely fluff. Moving some random shit from the middle of the ocean to a harbor to get quest points is so low brow it's disengaging and obviously a move to just give you more to do. The boat combat is neat in novelty value but there's not a lot to it. At its core, the game is a city builder inasmuch as the old Sierra games were, which isn't a bad thing, but the game play loop here is specifically to place buildings within striking distance of other buildings. According to Hoyle? City builder. In practice? I get the puzzle criticism.

        >cons
        zero land combat
pozzed array of characters and citizen avatars
unnecessary bloat with ship/building items, though this may be a plus depending on your preference
very pricey dlcs, with content ranging from meh to great
the AI STILL doesn't play the game, just spawns shit on a timer
        >pros
good looking, set in an interesting time period
comfy and utilitarian UI, managing lots of trade routes and islands won't give you carpal tunnel syndrome
blueprints are extremely useful once you start expanding

I would say the fact that you played 1404 is good before starting 1800. I have not played with all the new DLC but overall it has more production chains and can be overwhelming and time consuming compared to the smaller scale of previous anno games. So if someone is new to the series, I would start with an older game first.

Recently tried it and felt the gameplay was worse than all the old/"normal" Anno editions. You can get access to all DLC + all Anno editions via the "UBI+" subscription, sounds a bit like scam/trap but if you are the type to just grind a game for 1-2 weeks and then never touch it again (like me), it may be a good deal at ~15€ for one month.

Only 3 bear fur demand for 60k investors.

The speed determines the level of the perfomance medal item you get at the end. Under 2 hours gets you gold, 2-3 hours gets you silver, and over 3 hours gets you bronze, IIRC. They boost the productivity of multifactories by 75%, 50%, or 25% respectively.

Bright Harvest is pay2win (sort of) and Seeds of Change (the Hacienda one) sort of is as well in the space it saves. They will both make the game less stressful. The Arctic is a different vibe from the rest of the game but I like it.
Start with those but if you can, get them for free.
If you like the game I would recommend getting The High Life which adds more complexity and difficulty to the late game. I would also recommend getting the docklands and if you are into the New World stuff, New World Rising.

To be honest though, if you do enjoy the game I would recommend every single one with the exception of Land of Lions.

Haciendas, unless they buffed them in the past 6 months are actually worse than regular New World housing for all pop classes. They scale poorly and require too much infrastructure. It's only use are for small islands where you need just a few tier 2 pops to man mines.
Haciendas only real use is for extra pops in the new world via those goods but thats a min maxing tactic.
The last DLC with New World Electricity is much much more powerful. But Docklands is the real most bang for your buck after Bright Harvest.

How the hell do I git gud at focusing? I'm a scatter brain and always fall for the trap of doing everything at once. I can't focus on one thing at a time and I get very overwhelmed easily.

Don't get just enough. Need coffee? Go fill in a quarter of an island with plantations so you're good for a bit and wont have to jump back there in 90 minutes for more. Need building supplies for new stuff? Fill that ship up, you have hundreds, don't waste time making multiple piecemeal trips.

Ignore all of these until you are done with what you set out to do. The only thing not to ignore is a harbour or ships being under attack. If that is happening focus on that (probably a war) and do not do something else until that situation (war) is done with.

Play a game without NPCs to see if that helps you. Even without NPCs it can still be the most difficult game you will ever play depending on your settings and goals.

Tractors frick all my ratios up. Anyone know if there is a mod for old world fertiliser. I just don't have the demand for livestock in the new world to support this much fertiliser. Or is the way around it to set a minimum stock and sell excess to Isabella? She can stick alpaca wool up her ass.

The Animal Nutrionist and Enbesan Animal Nutrionist are from vanilla Anno 1800. They only produce dung, though, so you'd have to ship it to the New World.

I guess if you want to save one for an even bigger fire in the downtime, but realistically fires aren't happening more often than the cooldown timer so really there should be an option to automatically send them all out when a fire is in their range

Sailing ships look so much better than steamships..

        Anonymous

Yeah, I'm a luddite for steamships and a sailing ship lover. I play a house rule where I am allowed 1 shark ship per region and 1 battle cruiser per region.
I think the first ironclad defeated 17 sail ships and sank 2. It was later sank by the USS Monitor. Monitor and Battlecruiser in game should be ridiculously more OP than they are but I understand there is balancing to be done.

          Anonymous

Well they already favor gameplay and balance over being completely accurate to historicity in many cases. Like why does your base level trading post start with explosive grenades of the late 19th century while ships are still very much early 19th century and using old fashioned cannonballs that rely on their impact alone to do damage?

have there been any substantial hints or rumors as to what the next anno game will be set in?

      Anonymous

Is a new Anno game even confirmed? Although I guess they said they're done with DLCs fro 1800 now.
The problem is the series has exhausted the timeframe between middle ages and modern times already where it is classically set.
(Because the digits of the year must add up to 9 always)
Maybe a remaster of one? Personally I'd love that for 1701

Nothing confirmed but the rumor is Anno 2025

          Anonymous

That would be the lamest thing ever. They have intentionally always avoided an Anno in present time. So what, make it cities skyline?
The different era was always the important for the immersion in my opinion, even the futuristic Annos worked in that way

          Anonymous

No production lines, just import everything from China. You now have to manage 800 - 1200 fake news articles some of which are contradictory to keep your population confused.
In fact management of mass media is the entire game.

They list being "very close to our current time" as a negative for the 20th century, I really doubt they're doing 2025. A Roman-era Anno is far more likely. I've never heard these "rumors" outside of these threads anyway.

                Anonymous

Or they meant "very close to our current time" as a negative because they're already planning an Anno in current time anyway. But yeah I can't really see that either.
And I doubt they'll try a futuristic Anno this fast again, last time they followed the industry where it was the hot shit to go futuristic like Call of Duty or Civilization, then everyone hated on Infinite and they backpedaled to WW2, similarly Blue Byte backpedaled to 1800. I didn't hate 2070 and 2205 but the fatigue is probably still there for a lot of people.

So if they confirmed they're not breaking the rule of 9 this must confirm that the game is set in 1305 or earlier

Build it in the center of the island rather than the coast.

If you just do it for aesthetics and immersion I think having the palace on a separate island like this is pretty cool. Like a kings residence away from the common folk. Like Balmoral, Versailles or Herrenchiemsee which is coincidentally on an island too

I built a hacienda island that looked like that once. Instead of trees it was coffee fields though. Same layout other than that.

Yeah, I would like this for the Palace. I suppose I could do this. The thing about this palace though is that idk when I'm going to stop levelling so anything I make I will get extra modules for meaning I have to either blueprint it or constantly redo it.
Also I need an island with ultra high attractiveness because the only thing I'm interested in is 4th slot for a trade union which is quite far down iirc

How so? 2205 is pretty different from the rest of the series. I'm sad that it was disliked because I found it to have pretty cool ideas.

It did, and they were all integrated into 1800.

        What about 1404?!

I think 1404 will always have its fans, but it is obsolete by this point. Anno 1800 especially has added so many creature comforts and mechanics that I don't see why anyone would go back. The future is forward. Imagine what 1404 2 will be, rather than try to put on a fake smile and pretend that 1404 can hold a candle to 1800.

2205 is at a bigger scale though. It's easier to get to that larger size and faster, and the maps are designed with more space in mind. It has a ton of things better done in other Anno games but there is a legitimate reason to back to it

No since I'm still playing Anno 1701 and 1404 more than 1800, I don't even know what the hell 'make obsolete' could mean its not a fricking MMO or something.

      >best in the series

Not hardly, I think a lot of new comers to the series have shown up with this one so obviously that's going to be the best one to them.

Does Anno 1800 have good single player?

Well... arguably anno games were never focused on multiplayer so if you like the anno gameplay loop I'd say yeah, single player is pretty good.

I like 1404 because it has the best aesthetics and music.

If this game doesn't have combat, how do you deal with opponents? Just buy them out?

The game does have combat. But you can buy them out as well.

      2070 is fine.
2205 is hot garbage. Not having a third tier on the moon is a HORRIBLE mistake, along with every other bad decision.

2205 is fine and not hot garbage but was overall going into the wrong direction. But it also made a lot of progress that made it into 1800. Such as, travelling to other maps that supply each other with trade routes, 4 houses in one which just looks better than the same tiles across the entire city, being able to drag a window across the screen to select and upgrade citizens and not having to click them individually, satisfaction buildings no longer just providing services in a radius but along the actual streets. They also scaled the map size and economy way up, you organized way more and it really felt like you're in control of some world spanning corporate empire that even reaches the moon. Also yeah, other regions like especially the moon were just simply cool and it felt and looked appropriately immersive and comfy Anno-like.
Downsides were no random generated maps, no combat in building area and warfare in general is easily circumventable, no free placement of trading posts, and no multiplayer. Some of these are pretty heavy downsides admittedly and I'm happy they didn't pursue this direction further, but now that we have 1800 I can look back at it and appreciate it for its positives while knowing that the downsides weren't there to stay.

Where would you put the next Anno? Remember that the sum of the numbers has to be 9.

Medieval dark ages with witch hunts, plague, inquisition terror etc. Also make it as dark as possible.

I don't really want to play Anno games before 1800 now. It will be forced complexity
    >Build these steel pots for your people they are just as complex and requires as many production chains as a scooter however haha
Or it won't be forced complexity and too simple.

Think they'll ever do a fantasy Anno, or steampunk or something like that?
I hope not, but it would give them a lot of freedom to do whatever they wanted.

That'd be cool, could even bring back the faction system of 2070. Have one faction focused more on Steam and the other Diesel.

        Anonymous

Steam does not have energy to use, what are you saying. Diesel is used to boil water so that it vaporizes into steam and spins a turbine.
I really hope they wouldn't bring back the "environmentalists vs industrialists" shit for a steampunk anno because it wouldn't make sense in the scenario as that wasn't a discussion in the 19th century

He probably means coal vs diesel, extending to the aesthetic of diselpunk vs steampunk or diesel locomotives vs steam driven by coal.

The one thing I miss from 2205 in 1800 are those projects you have in each map, those were neat. Also, I love the aesthetic.

Alot of that works if 1800 includes the whole 19th century. Going by the earliest examples:

                >Skyscrapers
                1880
                >Airships
                1884
                >Steamships
                1783/1821
                >Electrical Grid
                1880
                >Rail Networks
                1830, 1881 for Electric
                >Oil Drilling
                1745
                >Cars
                1886

                >The earliest record regarding a canal across the Isthmus of Panama was in 1534, when Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain, ordered a survey for a route through the Americas in order to ease the voyage for ships traveling between Spain and Peru. The Spanish were seeking to gain a military advantage over the Portuguese

                I didn't think it'd be that early.

Neither did I. I knew it had been attempted at least twice before it succeeded though.
