I am a Fire Emblem veteran. I started the series with FE7 like every millennial in the west. I then played through the entire series excluding Thracia because I'm too lazy and also it still doesn't have a non-meme translation. I have come to give you my "more valuable than yours" opinion on Fire Emblem Engage: It's easily in the top 3 most fun FE games in the series. I've beaten Engage 3 times and if I picked it up again, I'd immediately start getting hooked again but I try not to because I have other games to play. It is my firm belief that if you don't like Engage, you don't like Fire Emblem. Also Panette is my cute Mexican wife. That is all.

As for Engage, I think it's implied that the Emblem characters aren't the real ones from previous games, they are more like constructs that share the same memories and thoughts of the original person. Kind of like the Einherjar from the Awakening DLC.

FE 3 to a lesser extent, 6-9 are fine entry points. 3houses is best played only once, it gets significantly worse the more you play it. FE1 and 2 are dated, look like shit and it shows. Only worth playing if you want to beat the whole series. Conquest is the only of the 3 Fates games worth playing. The SNES games have great soundtracks and Thracia looks really good for the time but isn't a good 1st play as it's very punishing blind. Radiant Dawn is both better an worse than PoR. It's strange. Awakening can also be argued as a good entry point but I personally don't think it is since it's pair up system isn't like anything else in the series except Fates obviously, which polished it. Echoes is ok at best. Great presentation but it was too loyal to the original. Engage is fun but is also flawed. Best played if you already have some knowledge of the series and its mechanics.

You can set yourself up so that your invincible ball of idiots each grant ~30 guaranteed true-damage at the start of every combat.
The game is a fricking joke. Its defense force prides itself on "it's a hard game that requires you to be strategic!" but the game itself is trivial. Some frickers have beaten it without even using any Somniel functions on the hardest difficulty! Because it's a game quite literally for elementary school children.
