Cinemaware games were designed around the Amiga first and foremost, they were meant for at least a 16-bit platform and all 8-bit versions had compromises.
Electronic Arts were all about Amiga for a year when it released, but once it flopped in North America they quitely pretended that it didn't happen and returned to making games for Commodore 64.
>Microprose were the biggest Amigaboos and supported it from beginning to end although starting in 1991 development was outsourced to Microprose UK.
Microprose was one of THE milsim game makers for the PC and Amiga. Still have my boxed copy fo gunship 2000 which shipped on 5/25 inch floppy disks in 1991, it was on the Amiga in 1993 but even ended up being ported to teh PS1 in 1996. Great game where you rise up teh ranks to command a squadron of attack helis

except they went way the frick overboard with copy protection back then
This
DotC purely exists to show off the Amiga's graphics and sound.
The original on the Amiga was visually impressive at the time and had a somewhat "cinematic" feel too which was novel for a video game at the time
>Amiga DOTC
The inferior version. Amiga original was heavily rushed and as such it had missing features present in other ports. Even the C64 port had more gameplay features!
Play the Atari ST version for Amiga visuals and expanded gameplay.
There are actually a mountain of stragetgy games for the consoles, did you know that Age of Empires 2 released on the PS2 or that Warzone 2100 is fricking excellent and released on the PS1? How about command and Conquer for the PS1? Command and Conquer retaliation? Command and Conquer retaliation? Did you know that those could be played multiplayer as well over they Ps1 link cable? Did you ever play Warcraft 2 dark shores on the PS1? Anyway you may have played dune 2000 on the P11? Populous? Did you know there was aouse of the PS1? Anyway, go and enjoy warzone 2100, its excellent
yeah they make them for casuals who cannot into PC but nobody that can into PC would want these ports. i vote no on the PS1 ports of X-COM and Civ2.

It mattered less by the PS1 era but a lot of these games on NES were ports from C64 or JPCs and you know how brutal and obtuse computer strategy games/RPGs were back then. The NES ones had the benefit of better audiovisuals, simpler controls, and no load time/disk swapping.
his playthroughs are probably the best reference library for NES games as he beat all of them naturally while most of the videos you find are cheating TAS playthroughs that don't actually give you a good idea of what the game is like, how long it is, or how difficult it is
>while most of the videos you find are cheating TAS playthroughs that don't actually give you a good idea of what the game is like, how long it is, or how difficult it is
That's intentional, dude. Nobody wants to see the player die in Battletoads 960x.
one of the posters on that video was like "well it's at least more interactive than Koei stuff." must be some difference in American versus Japanese game design.
checked out his playthrough of BKOAC. that was three fricking videos. made DOTC look like nothing. he and all the people posting comments were groaning in pain at the thought of playing this.
>So is this your new tactic to get people to hate Nintendo consoles, Australia?
Muh Australian bogeyman, OP is fricking based. Sorry if you don;t like retro systems ro games much because OP obviously does
there's also the ZX Spectrum port which is cut down and lame as it had to fit in 48k and run from cassette but i guess it kind of fits seeing as to how the game takes place in medieval England
also it's hilarious that it took Americans to actually design a proper game about England while bongs themselves couldn't do anything except random egg-shaped guy walks around shitty acid trip mazes collecting keys and avoiding enemies
you know, it's possible to do medieval fantasy settings about places other than England or France. there was an entire continent worth of countries for frick's sake.
the European computer scene back then was a little lacking in RPG or strategy titles due to the limitation of cassette storage and also language issues. action games could be sold easily across the continent without that problem.
You could not be more wrong in fact some of the best around were on those 8 bit machines. Robert T Smith is strategy legend for WWII games like Arnhem, Desert Rats and Vulcan

Battle 1917 (1983)[1]

Stalingrad (1988)

Dunno anon. Always seemed strange that Microsoft were allowing their big effort PC RTS to be ported to the PS2 dispite the fact I love strategy and I know some people are very fond of AOE I was never a huge fan especially the framing dynamic, I did actually play a few one off levels on the PlayStation 2 and it was fine, I never liked the farm dynamic where you have to constantly renew farms though on any platform. Too tedious. best thing about those games for me was the audio
>So is this your new tactic to get people to hate Nintendo consoles, Australia?
A lot of anons have come to hate that brand but its not because of some mysterious Australian. Its because of its 'adherents' disrupting and destroying threads about other retro systems with their bullshit
I had that game as a kid, bought super cheap new in a bargain bin of a general store in 97-98
It's not a great game but it's really not that bad
Yes this is ok but it’s true that it’s an inferior port.
Cinemaware games were designed around the Amiga first and foremost, they were meant for at least a 16-bit platform and all 8-bit versions had compromises.
luv me 'miger
DOTC was made by an American dev so that meme doesn't apply here anyway.
wait Americans made Amiga games?
The Amiga was an American computer by an American company. It sold better in Europe, but there were still many American games.
Yes?
Its an American PC.
it's an early Amiga release and the Amiga took a few years to get established in Europe
Electronic Arts were all about Amiga for a year when it released, but once it flopped in North America they quitely pretended that it didn't happen and returned to making games for Commodore 64.
Microprose were the biggest Amigaboos and supported it from beginning to end although starting in 1991 development was outsourced to Microprose UK.

in the early days yes
This game was never good regardless of platform

And honestly the C64 versions of Cinemaware games were the best from a programming standpoint.
I do admire the work put in to highly graphical c64 games.
Something always amuses me when that system is squeezed for all it's worth.

>checked out The Mexican Runner's playthrough of this one
ha ha you can tell he did not like strategy games
Why is he getting posted everywhere on /vr/ today
Why give a shit about people who don't like strategy games? They are obviously fricked in the skull and brainlets. Consider chess.
it's not that, it's just...eh, consoles aren't really meant for strategy games

You think maybe those countries are relevant historically and your shithole isn't, Wlodislaw?
Actually Europe was pretty lively all the way from Ireland to the shed in a field that was Muscovy in the middle ages
An excellent Spectrum strategy game

Fun fact Konami ported age of empires 2 to the PS2 in a Pal release

Money. Console strategy games are a relative niche so it made sense to put it on PS2 to maximize market reach.
They did have Bard's Tale on the Spectrum as well, again cut down some due to storage limitations.

Nintendo version is actually a lit of fun. Don't miss out, fellas.
Yeah it's weird and janky (maybe in old ways, maybe in ways introduced by the porting, I don't know or care) but it's a fun little game
