I would lean for Cerius over Oboro. Oboro has a nice tricky kit but all his effects rely on having Itto-Ryu characters (Shion, better Shion, Shigure and Aldo but not Akane[ffs]) or a full thunder team. Meanwhile Cerius just needs to aim and shoot.

You can make pretty short work of it with Cyrus (Oct) + AS Necoco + Yakumo + Eva. Granted, that is a pretty damn specific team.
IMPORTANT: In case you glossed over the campaign because of the whole Octopath collab, if you survive the Challenge Books of Gariyu and Azami you get 200 CS for each, 400 CS total.
You just need to make it through turn 5, no damage or score requirements so even unoptimized teams can get through this as long as you can tank the hits.
This team can easily get Gariyu's tome cleared with minimal investment; T1AF for Indulgence, T2 bring Nona AS to the front, T3 Indulgence, T5 Indulgence, easy 200 CS.
If you already cleared Gariyu's Challenge tome before the collab don't miss out on your 200 CS.
Azami's tome from what I could tell is unlosable since she only kills 2 of your characters and then is hardcoded to Miss her aoe attacks, just make sure you don't bring any Katana or Itto-Ryu characters or you might be forced into a fair fight where she can kill you.

She's decent. Her songs give your choice of Shade Lunatic, and she can still build AF while singing by using her end of turn attack.
If you have Iphi I'd say she mostly replaces Milsha AS, though you could stack Sacrifice Song with Blood Contract's Risktaker and have both of them active.
Battle Start Status Immunity can be niche for some fights with Confusion or Freeze that you want to burst down in 1-2 turns but either have an HP stopper so you're forced to eat an ailment or have ailments at the start of the fight.
Personally I think her NS is better than her AS, due to a significantly higher multiplier on her damage+end of turn attack backed up by the solid Earth/Shade buffs on her 5* skill. AS has no way to gain Steidi which means she caps at 180% compared to NS 1200%. But if you got her AS from the Whispers of Time Drop I'd consider that a W since it's much easier to sidegrade from AS to NS than from NS to AS.
Can her 50% dmg reduction stack with 50% dmg reduction from prayers?
Yes, all songs and prayers stack with each other. You could theoretically run song/song/prayer or song/prayer/prayer and a single DPS but there are usually better strats.
you cannot run song+song, the 2nd song will overwrite the 1st song and your 1st singer will be stuck doing absolutely nothing for the rest of their song's duration
prayer+prayer also does not work, the 2nd prayer will overwrite the 1st although if your 2nd prayer gets interrupted your 1st prayer will resume
Depends if you have Pizzaca/AS Misty. Both of them are better than AS Milsha as singers but if you don't have them she'll still provide a large damage boost.
Her zone, while cool on paper, is rather difficult to utilize properly.

One other good thing to mention is also the new Free characters/styles you can get.
Ashtear is pretty gimmicky but with the right setup she can put out some really high numbers notably with her end of turn attack, which you can use as the last action of AF to make sure it doesn't get weaker because someone else attacked the enemy after you set up the bomb.
Cerrine AS is a budget Flash Zone who is also a respectable damage dealer in an IDA/Outlaw team which is a strange mix of characters but there are enough solid ones that you can make a general GoodStuff team using her.
Nona AS is a budget Yipha AS, who caps her bonus stats to 99 instead of Half of Yipha's SPRT but also changes her weapon type and element to match her buff target, can set her buff target's weapon zone, and has a solid hitcount for building AF combo%.
Benedict is the budget "nuke everything will Null Slash" similar to how Prai is the budget "tank everything the enemy uses". Many new superbosses are made much simpler by buffing Benedict and having him ignore their elemental bullshit with big number.
Noahxis AS is... like the really old units that you built up 3 stacks for and then got to use 1 skill at full power before having to rebuild up 3 stacks. The units who generally got Manifests that said "stacks no longer disappear in AF" (or at all, if WFS was feeling especially generous). He can hit for 1 really big number but I'm honestly not impressed at all by him, and prefer his NS.
Kamlanage is the budget Thunder Zone setter, awakener, and carry all rolled into 1. He's solid since there's not too many other options to use over him.
Octopath Cyrus is a Water/Fire/Thunder DPS who can set all 3 zones and matches whichever is active (or Water by default)
Partitio is a Rage Tank who can also be a Guard Tank at 6*, can make your party act preemptively on a non-preemptive skill
Tithi is a Thunder Singer who... is alright I guess.

With Stellar Boards and Max Light, Aldo's one of the best characters in the game. He's got the highest non-Type attack of anyone and he can let you start fights with the AF gauge at 100%.

For free units, Kamlanage from the newest story arc is a fairly good Thunder mage.

Don't ever farm equipment. Do a few runs of the Time Twisted Maze to get some Spinal weapons then use the shit you get from superbosses/part 3 side quests and shops.
The only piece of equipment you want to fully upgrade is the Time Restored Hammer because it gives AS Yipha more SPR for her stat boosts. Everything is can be done with Elpis/Dryad/Mujima weapons, which require minimal grinding.
Elpis, Mujima, and Dryad weapons all seem to come from newer superbosses and hard shit, though. I'm still rocking old stuff like the Miaki weapons, Prismatics, and Azuls. I don't think I even finished the duo Underworld Spirits for the Void weapons.

You should be able to finish up getting the void pretty easily due to how massive powercreep has gotten

We'll be getting a paid SDE soon. You could pick up Velette then if you're willing to spend a little money. Gunce is worth it.

Under Type click Thunder, it'll show you all the Thunder characters. You can also check in-game under the character's profile. Open up their board and click on the name one, it'll tell you what Element they are. RFC is naturally Fire/Crystal and Necoco is Earth. They can change what Type damage they do, but it won't change their innate attribute so even if RFC is in a Thunder Zone he won't count for Oboro's passive.

Oh, you're right. I completely missed that he has Another Zone, on top of shredding Thunder resistance. Can probably just run Oboro, Kam, Melina ES, and then slot in a Pizzica/Necoco/RCF as a better support option since I'm not relying on Oboro's 4 Thunder frontline battle start to awaken the zone.
AS Otoha's best use is the fact that you can stick her in the backrow and her end of battle heal will still activate. 15% HP and MP every battle lets you last basically indefinitely in the overworld or ADs as long as you don't dawdle, and she's pivotal in keeping everyone healthy enough to have Minalca at 50/50 stacks every battle.
Interesting, I never would have even thought of that since her modifiers look decent. I'll have to keep that in mind for when I get Minalca.
Shame there's probably nowhere in the overworld worth farming these days, but for getting through ADs while dropping bigger nukes than Tsubame AS/Flamme pre-emptives, that sounds great.
On average she's about 4000% modifier which is high yes, but outside of AF her damage is pitifully low on turn 1 and about 66% of her average on turn 2 so she's pretty meh for short fights. If you can manage to end AF with her at 2 stacks while hitting an HP stopper, next turn she'll have a fantastic nuke but that's something that's harder to manage than other characters who you can specifically choose not to use their big hit during AF, for example Melina ES swapping off of Or Yesha before consuming all of her Ra'am stacks.
DPS are fairly easily replaceable as long as you aren't constrained to a certain element or weapon type, but supports will almost always have their niche especially backrow passive supports like Otoha. The only real replacements are Toova Alter and Velette, who have to be on the frontlines and don't restore HP but in exchange can let you fire off 100+ MP cost skills every battle without eventually running dry, which Otoha would struggle to keep up with.
As for places to farm, Phase Shifts are a solid spot to use Otoha since you can't just teleport back to the Spacetime Rift to heal and then warp back to continue with the Phase Shift. Another Dungeons are also obvious. But there's also the latest story chapter on Master Mode, fighting all of the onscreen encounters for materials for new gear clearing out 1 map then moving on to the next one and repeating. It's much more convenient to just kill everything in one go than it is having to heal up between every map.

if you have Tsukiha 5* going into the update you'll get 1 Starchart for her
after the update, every dupe you pull of her gives 1 Starchart or possibly 3 if there's a rateup banner thing

Yeah. It gives her a new skill that activates Lunatic Risktaker and gives her Hold Ground and also increases her Power and Speed by 100, and gives her a big, beefy 3 hit AoE follow up whenever she attacks. The damage goes up the lower her HP is so she works really well with Minalca.
You only got 1 bar gauge out of 3 no matter how many dupes which you got before.
I've been dumdumming my way through the game til now but I wanted to clear out some bosses soon. Starting with Uquaji 190, Murphy, and Stellar Aldo (VH) what should I do? Pic is every unit I don't have.

Looks like you have a good Thunder team. AS Orleya, Oboro, ES Miyu and Silver Striker.
So does Benedict work without Yipha AS? I have Claude ES and Limil.
Yipha without L/S investment reaches 350~400 SPR which translates to +175-200 to all of Benedict's stats, and she further buffs his PWR, Weapon Damage, and Crit Damage by 100% with Bean Bua.
Nona AS can give him +99 to all of his stats and +60% Weapon Damage and Crit Damage which is probably the closest replacement you could get.
Claude ES gives 50% Weapon Damage and 100% Crit Damage without any PWR which I believe ends up being weaker than Nona AS due to Benedict's PWR scaling.
You could try it, but some of the Benedict strats are so tight that even with Yipha there's a degree of RNG due to him underdamaging Lavog and needing fricking Cyuca's Wolf Fang to proc Slash Resist down (although Limil might be enough to make up that damage, I still don't have any from of Ilulu so I couldn't use it)

Anons, been a while since I played and I'm having trouble figuring out what I should be doing. Should I just focus entirely on clearing all of the catch up campaigns before the 31st? Left off at the very start of Part 3 if that helps.
Just start Main Story Vol. 2, Wryz saga and the Octopath collab before Dec 31. You can finish them later on.
Challenging Azami and Garyu tome before Dec 31 also gives 400 stones.
Will Tsukiha be enough for my Fire and Slash needs if fully SA, or do I still really want Minalca?
She'll be fine.The only thing to consider is that Minalca has Barrier Pierce on her Rip and Tear and Tsukiha doesn't have any Barrier Pierce so against a boss with crazy bullshit barriers, Minalca would be better. But Tsukiha can reapply Hold Ground (potentially every turn if you need) so she has her own advantages.
Fair enough, thanks. Just did the SA Fatefuls and definitely didn't get what I was looking for (AS Lovely, which was new and my first version of Lovely, and AS Soira, which it seems I already had and didn't even know I did), but I'm happy that Tsukiha and Suzette will help patch up my awful roster.

What's the trick for the Tsukiha TM fight? Even with Lele AS I feel like I'm tickling her, and most of my other characters end up doing 0 damage after a bit.
Water Zone makes her boost, as does blunt or pierce damage. Each phase she gets more resistant to everything that isn'r fire or water with her last phase absorbing. Has a crazy permanent high phys resist buff.
I squeked by with Alt Shion (no paper tiger though, Iphi, Flamm AS and Eva. Eva was out of lunatics by the end though, even with benefic. Sidekicks were Kumos and Tetra, but I never needed the party revive.

I just unga'd it with Elseal, Nona AS, Felmina ES, and Hismena Alter.
T1AF, T2 give Felmina Nona's Devotion then keep rebuilding and doing AFs until Tsukiha died.
Tetra and Kumos sidekicks, swapped out to Kumos because Hismena ran out of MP.
Is there any baseline of armor you should be using before you hunt superbosses or endgame shit? I figure you probably use something farmable, and the Pitch-Dark and Lost Night stuff seems decent for damage characters.
I make a lot of use of the Might armor (+15% damage when max HP). You can farm that from the Eastern overworld. I ended up making 5 of each.
Might and Guidance for DPS with random time twisted maze stuff thrown in on supporters
Forgot I have Flammelapis AS. Ran Iphi + Lele AS + Flamme AS + Starky. With all the buffs Lele AS was able to one shot Tsukiha health bar, so I cleared it in 3 turns.

Swap Starky for AS Radias and bring another strong buffer instead of Iphi. But in that case your Lele needs to be 200 Light for the 4th Grasta slot or else Tsukiha will be left at ~15% health after a Steam Glare.
Depends on who else you have. If you've got everyone but Iphi listed here
you can swap in Suzette with Demonic Thrust (true manifest obtained), Wisdom Spear and any of the Fire skill giving badges/grasta. Demonic Thrust gives P/P and str/int down that exceeds Iphis, then use Pseudo Spell to keep AF going in magic zone, then use whatever fire skill to build AF in the third phase when she forces A. Fire zone.

Buy her Dragon Starcharts from the shop. Save your Allcosmos charts in case you pull a 4.5 of someone with Awakened boards. Like if you pull 4.5 Oboro, his Stellar Boards won't be Awakened, and his Starcharts aren't in the Tsubura shop, so the only way to get him set up is to use your Allcosmos Starcharts.

You don't need her specifically - my clear only used her for the poison/pain and attack debuff and AF gain during her third phase when she awakens fire zone, not for the revive. There are others who can fill that niche.

How many Pain/Poison Grasta should I get to start with before I move on from Antiquity Garulea?
I'd aim for 12-16 of each weapon type. That's enough to have your frontline decked out and you'll have shared grasta in your backline anyway.
Makes sense to me. I'd imagine supports probably don't need it either. Is mixing Pain and Poison fine since most characters that can set one of them seem to set both? I've got a combined total of around 9 Pain + Poison for most weapons so far.
Yeah as long as both are set it doesn't matter. For grasta ore for bosses you generally want Bull's Eye (50% more damage out of AF) + Rose With Thorns (15% more damage but costs 50% more MP) and then whatever. I tend to fill in last slots with Combo Rate + but some people put stat down, some people put light shadow stat +. Shame there's only a single Zone Awakened Damage + ore in the game thus far.
It also makes it harder to sidegrade character to AS/ES. The entire thing is to force you to spend.
Oh shit, I need to push story and clear at least chapter 93 (on 86 atm) for the other 5* drop I forgot about. Took a look at the Staff/Katana/Axe/Bow pool and there's actually some decent hits in there if I get lucky. The time cutoff is a bit unfortunate, but still a good number of wins. Ilulu Alter, Sesta, Yakumo, Iphi, Alma, Shion Alter, and Orleya. Still, not good odds of getting any of them, and Iphi or Sesta would be the jackpot.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Lele AS is much stronger, as far as water damage dealers, then Hismena Alter. Honestly Lele AS is one of the strongest nukers in the game and you can use her as your primary attacker for most any fight with any team composition.

Any dungeon with reward ladder currency you want, so you can get chrono stones and chant scripts. There's even a special limited time campaign massively increasing ladder rewards from ADs.

Yeah, looks like they won't work on Toto Theater or on any non-main story dungeon that came out after The First Knight Episode. So none of the Mythos dungeons, and the only collab dungeon will be the first Persona one with Joker and Morgana. I guess if you're farming light/shadow on one of the OG free characters like Cyrus or Amy they could be good, but if you want to farm L/S on any newer character, or if you want to farm Episode Ladders for any of the events that came out after First Knight, you're fricked.
Really their only purpose looks like grinding out true VC grasta for non-AS/ES/Alt units.
They say more dungeons will be added in future updates on the update note although I assume a few of them like Home's Lost Atelier are still going to be excluded

Velette is seriously starting to look like my best pick next SDE with how well Thunder is coming together, even compared to getting Iphi or Minalca.
Velette's big thing is Gunce. Gunce sets Awakened Thunder Zone multiple times per battle. That's necessary because Orleya needs Awakened Thunder Zone active to turn enemy element into Thunder. Well, Velette is strong too, but Gunce is just so good for Thunder Zone teams I feel she's basically mandatory.
Depends. I use Lele AS/Toova ES in my main team. Toova helps to keep Lele at high MP levels so I don't have to waste as many turns reactivating Miracle Form.

Let's assume a start date of March 2020. If you rushed the story to unlock ADs immediately and did all of your ADs every day, and bought all Green+Red Keys every week you would have 4000 Tsubara Gems before any Treatise/Codex purchases.
Most people would be making those Treatise/Codex purchases to sidegrade their characters, which could shave off anywhere between a few hundred and a few thousand from that 4000 number.

I buy my red/green keys every week. That's 100 gems. You only get 120 per week, so that means I only get 20 each week or 80 each month. 800 is almost a full years worth of playing, and I use them to buy the occasional treatise or codex.

No, I mean from nopaew. Star charts are the only truly time gated (not including mats from horrors) in the game. You get exactly one allcosmos a month ftp and can afford one character specific one via tsubura's. The time conversion means starchart = 30 days, and 30 days is 1500 stones minimum from logins and ads.

Just put her on your team. She works with anybody and basically does everything.
She gives your other party members an auto-rez, so when they die they come back with full health. She can also set Shade Zone and turn everyone's attacks into Shade for one turn. She inflict Elemental Break (Shade) on enemies. She can give the party Status immunity and remove Status effects from the party. She inflict pain/poison and debuffs (-40%-50% Power/Int/Speed/Type Resistance) on enemies. She can buff the party (50%-100% Power/Int/Speed) while giving the party knockback immunity. She gives everyone Lunatic Risktaker, so any character who gets a buff while under Lunatic status loves working with her. She can also give a party member Barrier Pierce for one attack, so you can use that to smash through an enemy.
Really, the only things she can't do is restore the party's HP or MP. Other than that she's the most versatile and universal support character in the game.

There is no discount Iphi. This team is the closest you can get to discount Iphi, with Milsha AS singing to provide Risktaker Lunatic (which Iphi grants for free) Soira spamming Noblesse Oblige for Cover (which Iphi grants for free) and Kid's Z-Steal providing similar buff numbers to 0 Seance Nocturnal Procession though without the knockback immunity + similar debuff numbers to 3 Seance Rosa Lilac but without the type resist debuff, guaranteed pain/poison, and only lasting 1 turn
also you'd be using Tetra for discount revive but you'd have to charge up Tetra's skill for the Hold Ground and after "dying" they'd stay at 1 hp instead of being full hp like they would with Iphi's blood contract
If you have a character that says "deals more damage at max HP" then sometimes they lose damage with Iphi in the party but sometimes Iphi's risktaker is still a net positive; Gariyu for example is less damage with Iphi while Ilulu would still be more damage
X Liliac sets pain/poison and comes with an omnidebuff which includes type resist down for p/p grasta enabling and a ton more damage
Nocturnal Procession is an omnibuff for more damage
for longer battles where your other characters die and lose their blood contracts, Walpurgisnacht reapplies blood contract while also setting Shade Zone for a buff to all elemental attacks and additional buffs to shade and resisted attacks
Ichorphilia gives her a skill to spam in AF for damage and combo building, and it also ignores magic defense
getting Iphi to 80 shadow for all 4 skill slots is a massive QoL increase, and she can even consider slotting in Heralagnia to counter ailment spamming superbosses

I'm quite a new player and I just got a Chapter 13 completion 5-star pick. Looking at the tier lists all three options seem mediocre, but Isuka has the most long-term potential with her other forms. However, I want to clear Episodes in chronological order, and Anabel seems to have a point multiplier in the very first one.
I doubt my current squad should be used as a reason for a specific pick, but I feel obliged to tell the basics. My frontline is currently Aldo, Normal Suzette, 4-star Alma, and Benedict (I really hope his 5-star form is worth it since he's kinda underwhelming), with Shion Alter and Prai being the main reserve choices.
Benedict 5* is pure unga and it's great. Both Anabel and Isuka, if you unlock the latter's Extra Style form, which you probably won't have for a long time, can act as your team's tank. Melina is a standard attacker, but her alternate forms can act as healers.
All 3 choices have their perks.
Anabel has a unique case where an epilogue to Two Knights episode is locked behind having her. I recall the nips complained about locking part of a story behind a paywall, so WFS never did it again afterwards. As far as I know, this epilogue is still locked, so maybe you want Anabel just to see it.
Isuka features very heavily in several Episodes, mainly the IDEA and the Apex of Logic ones.
Melina is a key character in the Song of Sword Mythos, which acts as an enormous side story. She also gives a bonus to Time Mine Episode, strangely.
As Anabel is the only one with content locked behind her, I'd probably pick her. Alternatively, you can wait until you tackle the First Sword Episode, as she features there too. Maybe you'd have pulled one of the three by then, and then you can use your ticket to pull a different character.
Thanks for the detailed answer. Since I'm pretty much one astral tome away from the first chant script, I go for upgrading Benedict first. After that, I will get Anabel and use her, Deirdre, and Soira to get up enough points for Sword Master Tome. Once again thanks for your swift help.
Go for Melina instead. Anabel and Isuka are both very outdated and the point boost will only save you an hour or two. Melina on the other hand has a modern manifest weapon that could carry you for some time when you get it, in addition to better alt forms than Isuka or Anabel. Anabel is extremely low tier at the moment.
I don't think manifest weapons should be taken into account for newer players. They don't have the team flexibility to tackle those yet.
Making a mid/long duration investment is a lot smarter than burning a free 5* to save three or four keys, which was their justification.

Compressed down the tier list right now is
Iphi > AS Yipha > AS Necoco > the two main singers (Pizzaca NS/Mistrare AS) > Myunfa Alter > rape DPS (Sesta, Yakumo, Minalca)
Justifications for a new player:
Iphi can grant auto-life to the party and refresh it indefinitely by working around certain stacks and conditions.
AS Yipha can grant 1/2 of the numerical value of her spirit (magic defense) to every stat on a selected character and grant them exceedingly powerful buffs.
AS Necoco can change your entire team's elements to match the zone they're in, but only one turn at a time.
The singers can grant massive damage or defense buffs to the party.
Myunfa Alter can do the same but to characters placed in specific positions (to the left or right of her in the party line up)
RAPE DP is RAPE DPS. It is DPS that rapes.
However, that level of DPS is only needed for extremely late content superbosses.
This is all mostly moot for the story and a new player, the best thing for you to do is to get Kid and Harle from the Chrono Cross event.
I want to say that either has been or they've mentioned planning on changing that to not require Anabel to get the extra quest

Suzette has a Manifest and then a True Manifest. True Manifest fights are bullshit and take well built characters with grasta and a decent understanding of the game mechanics.

If you're new I'd wait on SAing anyone through mats, you don't need that level of power until you get to the deep late game (hell you don't even need it now, none of the bosses since SAing got introduced warrant it except maybe the Wryz 1 challenge tome). You may roll her a few times in the coming months which will get you it passively.
Yeah. Use your monthly tsubura gems to buy both copies of her starcharts from the tsubura shop. It'll take awhile to get them, and there's no rush, but you should start saving to buy them now.

Whenever they release a new chapter in the main story or a new big sidestory, they do a "Start a new chapter for X" or "Complete a chapter for X"
like when they did the Elzion Mythos, if you did it within a month or so of it coming out you got a free random 5* Guiding Light character
this is the first time that I can think of where they did a campaign where you had to start 5 different chapters to get all of the rewards
Missing the free Necoco hurts, same with the free Tsukiha, but Heena/Yukino and Kikyo aren't too important
and you can always get all of them off-banner, they're not gone forever like they would be in other gachas where you only have 1 chance to get a unit and if you miss then you get fricked

As a new player, I must reiterate the advice from upthread that Benedict, Kid and Harle can carry you through most of the game, including many superbosses from before the past year or so.

At the end of the Commander and Sheep Ensemble, Benedict can be raised to 5*. One of his skills puts Slash Resistance -70% and Weapon Break (Slash) on an enemy and then his other attack is a ridiculously hard hitting non-type slash attack. He's the strongest non-type damage dealer in the game, only beaten out by Stellar Board Aldo at 200+ Light.

It seems like they've slowly been giving 4* characters either 5* NS or AS forms. Last year we got Parisa, Pom and Benedict. The year before we got Otoha, Lele and Soira.
Harle literally never stops being useful. Being able to reduce elemental damage to ZERO while attacking with any element is too strong.

To be a total buzzkill, the most meta strat (til they 6* another main plot MC) seems to be Aldo 255 -> kid/harle/starky 80 -> wryz 80 (in anticipation of her inevitable 6*)
There's also Clarte, Curio, Nona, Noah, and possibly Colette and Cyrus Octopath
Cyrus (OT) can make due with 30 light, easily covered with items, to function as an extremely poor man's Yakumo. Clarte is made redundant by Harle, except maybe for the first Regret boss. . Curio's best use is to set up AS Azami, which doesn't need additional l/s on either character. Nona doesn't need extra stats despite devotion as her primary use is replacing ES Claude if one doesn't have him.
Colette's meme strategies don't require additional light, just save scumming and Noahxis, while a cool dude, doesn't need four skill slots. Hell, he doesn't need two.

It's simple but fairly tedious. If you get stuck then just go back to the last cat you can beat easily and grind until you're at least 5 levels above them. You also need to level as many cats as you can to at least level 20 as it contributes to your overall strength.

Finally got a new, on-banner character. My first Stellar Awakening as well. This is rather confusing. From what I can tell seeming as she is only at 16 Shadow it's best to raise her level cap to 100, grab her stellar awakening skill, then one other skill (the one that autocasts curses sounds nice).

At 16 Light/Shadow you can unlock the new skills, which is the most important. At 30 you can unlock all skills, abilities and the level cap. No need to go for higher light/shadow. Also Skills > Abilities > Level Cap > Stats > HP/MP Max.

Getting grasta should be prioity 1 for new players given how incredibly ling the grind is to fully spec your team and also how massive the power boost is from having them.

are the 2 most commonly used grastas for basically every character
they're from Antiquity Garulea and Future Garulea both as random drops from end rewards, and also from Antiquity Garulea randomly stocked by a merchant which can be traded for 20 dungeon token items (which you get 1-2 of per sparkle spot, there are 3 sparkle spots per sparkle map, and sparkle maps are 3 out of 8 possible maps that you can go to)
The other most used grastas are 1-ofs from either trading rare dungeon mats for, from doing battle simulator, from deep into the story, superbosses, astral archives, etc.

There are two types of grasta, ones that only apply to the character who has them equipped and those who apply to all characters in the party who meet a certain condition, which are marked on the grasta's description with a [P].
The latter are bound to things like element, personality trait and weapon type and are generally put on what people call "grasta mules" which exist only to provide passive bonuses to the party members on the front line. A good example of a current mule is Cyuca, a shitty 4* axe user who shares personality and weapon types with Benedict and can boost his damage singificantly by in the back row and equipped with the proper grasta (Almighty Power Outlaw, Power of Void Axe 30% and Enhance with Max HP Axe if you're wondering).
For front line characters, except your personal favorite lunatic user (who gets the sole power of Benefic [+2 turns to every lunatic activation]), they generally roll Power of Poison or Power of Pain. What matters after that is Grasta Enhancements, which add further multipliers. For those the general strat is Bull's Eye (more damage out of AF) and Rose with Thorns (15% more damage but skills costs 50% more MP). Notably these effects don't stack, even if from another source (weapon/armor/badge) meaning there is now a bit of freedom on what you have.
But yeah you should get to main story part 2 part 2 and park your ass in the Antiquity Garulea dungeon until you have 6-12 poison/pain (any combo) grasta for each weapon.
You may also want to get 7 Proficient Debuff Res (not Proficiency Debuff Res [Weapon]) grasta from the same dungeon but that grind is a pain in the ass. Having 7 of those spread out amongst your team's 18 grasta slots makes you immune to at/mag/spd debuffs, which is very useful for some superbosses. Not for casual play though.

Love-Cursed Crow is a 2400% attack on all enemies, and Flensing Curse EoT is 3200-4000% each turn on all enemies depending on whether or not it was Iynx'd.
6400% is stronger than 2 Neptunes, are Flammelapis' stats irrelevant? It's nearly as strong as Petalfall, does Azami AS not care about her stats?
And again speed matters for AF as well as for landing her -50% Type Resist debuff before your other characters attack.
Compared to a single hit max damage attack? Yes. Everything else is just icing.

As a relatively new player, I got 4* Sesta and I really want to get her upgrade material, but to maximize my chances I need to get my team Lights up. I guess I can run Industrial Ruins with Amy, but she is kinda shit. I planned to get Kid up but grinding the CC dungeon that only gives event points sounds like a nightmare. Also, I found this bit on the wiki:

The only character I can truly call a complete shitter is Altena.
The wiki's right, but there's a dungeon that can increase any free character's light/shadow at a slightly higher rate, and rarely getting double or triple points in a single run, which can reduce that time somewhat. Monthly trial quests also give a 5 point boost you can slap onto anyone. Doing Episodes also reward you with usable items that can increase a character's light/shadow. All that can drastically reduce the time spent grinding these points, but if you're in this for the long haul, best to save those for gacha characters since you can always increase a free character's points at the aforementioned dungeon.

Aside from the light/shadow, you can also get 5* class tomes, which you can eventually use to craft special equipment that boost the respective character's VC. But otherwise, yeah, the Dungeon grind is a fricking LONG journey.

I still can't exactly understand how it works. I'm not far enough to unlock Grasta but I understand that's another few months worth of grinding. How the hell has the game survived so long if the primary loop is repeating the same dungeon for a year in preparation to repeat another dungeon for a year?
The grind's tedious as frick, but I assume AE's survived this long thanks to how it stands out from its competition. Gameplay isn't done just through wave battles, you don't navigate primarily by clicking through menus, alternate forms are unlockable for free (through said tedious grinding), shit's not usually time-limited, and collab content is somehow both free and (mostly) permanent. If there's another gacha that's anything like that, I'd be glad to check it out, but as far as I know, Another Eden holds this niche with an iron fist and nothing else has come close.
I didn't play a ton of it, but the only thing that comes even remotely close is Octopath:CotC

Dungeons are basically just AE's daily grind. Every gacha has some sort of "log in every day and complete the repeatable/daily content". Once you get 3 lower enemy encounter badges or grasta ore, you can clear most red key dungeons in 2-3 minutes tops.

I went through a period of many many months of just logging in to watch ads, walk around with Ilulu, and enjoy the music. I don't know what's wrong with me but I have a good chunk of CS saved and most of the content to do so that's alright I guess. I hear there's a fishing minigame too, I bet I'll get hooked on that as well.
I do fishing a lot yes. I like the song underwater so I don't hate harpoon fishing like most as well. I just throw on some really good headphones and vibe out to fishing during that time.
My daily farming is less than 10 minutes, and that includes watching 7 ads.
triple Encounter Rate- means ordinary dungeons are 0-1 random encounters plus the boss, all of which die in a single attack
Kamlanage's dungeon skips all regular fights and oneshots 2 horrors+the boss, and all the enemies in a phase shift if it spawns
raising a character to 200/255 light is a long journey calendar wise, but if you condense that year down to actual play time it's like 3 days worth of gaming

Maybe I have a warped way of looking at dungeons since I'm just past Part I but this still sounds quite bad. Even if you can minimize the playtime, you are still stuck in the same place for several months. You can't upgrade other characters beyond the few that this dungeon drops material for. You don't get many weapon parts (I don't know if running the VH Ocean Palace around 50 times for Sheila's personal weapon is a one-off gimmick.) And by the time you're finished, there's probably another Episode or Crossover event with at least one more character to raise. You have no time to do anything but slave away half a year to make one character (that is always at risk of becoming outdated or getting somebody from gacha who outclasses them in every way) good.
I may have over-fixated too much on this.
ADs haven't been worth running for weapons/armor for... ages. With a few exceptions like Curio's dungeons (which are good anyways because of Curio's light) the optimal red key ADs to farm are ones that can drop Chant Scripts and which can raise some character's L/S. If you really need someone's 5* tome then an AD like Moonlight Forest for Wefenica's Tome is also fine.
As for green keys, all of Garulea gives Grasta which you'll want to farm while also raising L/S for characters like Azami and Gariyu. Underworld/Omegapolis/Entrana are similar where you get a lot of Grasta/ore and equipment while also raising L/S for characters.
Otherlands are the main exception, where you don't get any L/S or Grasta but things like Crescent Shadow and Aceto Vita might be worth farming.
How are Chant Scripts even an issue? All the side content basically rain them at you, even more if you go out of your way to search every nook and cranny.
Early game Chant Scripts are what's most abundant and you have to wait on Murmur/Prayer to up/sidegrade characters.
Once you've been playing for more than a couple of months, the easy Chants have dried up, you have hundreds or thousands of the other ones and you're barely scraping together enough Chants for another upgrade.
To put things into perspective, there are 131 fixed Chant Scripts. To upgrade all characters from 4.5* to 5* + AS + ES + Alter, you need more than 800 total Chants.
Subract 5 Chants per 5*/AS/ES/Alter you pull from the gacha and you're still looking at between 250 and 500 Chants with average luck.
As an anecdotal example, I have been playing for 4 years, I have 200 Chant Scripts saved up, and if I want to unlock every character's style (including Thille ES and Akane Alter once they come out) I will need to use 210 Chant Scripts.
Also I'd need to pull Ilulu, Cerius, and Oboro's 4* forms so if I get lucky on 2/3 of them I could theoretically empty out my entire stock of Chants and have every form of every character after 4 years of daily play.

You also have to put into perspective how many characters you simply don't care about.
Sure you COULD use 10 Chants to get Yuna and Yuna AS, but you could also ignore both of them because they're incredibly outdated at the moment. Same with Shanie and Shanie AS, Bertrand AS, Felmina AS...
There's gonna be about a dozen characters who you'll never bother caring about upgrading, and a bunch of characters you won't need to upgrade because you pulled their 5* from the gacha.
Fair enough, from a complete noobs perspective though it still seems pretty overwhelming. Are any of the low rarity units worth a damn here or are they just filler? I've been relying on massively overleveling a character to clear the first dozen chapters but I imagine that's not gonna work for too long.
There are many big brained comps that work even outdated like cless being able to shit out big dick damage in combos with the right setup but also smaller brained stronger chars that do it with less thinking. So it's better to save chants and research than to burn that shit and not have them.

I wouldn't use any chants at all til you hit part 2 of the story - between campaigns and early stone income you should get a bunch of 5*s to carry you through older content.
Get free chars from crossovers and episodes and maybe burn a few chants to get Benedict 5*d.
Some are filler, but some can still hold their own. The 3* locked ones, like the robots, knights, and masked girls, are basically filler, though some madlads have tackled superbosses using them.
Miyu, Ciel, May, Benedict, Prai, Akane, Parisa, Pom, Nikeh, Otoha, Soira, Lele, Foran, Sevyn, Bivette, and Chiyo all have a 5* or AS/ES form available to them.
Bria, one of the filler knights, does actually have a 5* unlock. It's not really worthwhile since the character's unique mechanic isn't so unique anymore, but it does drastically alter their character art and sprite, so do the side content in First Knight and the Holy Sword once you start tackling that.
In defense of the masked girls, they have a very cool looking af finisher.
I should probably apologize for my panicked thoughts. I must admit I wrote my previous posts as a result of an attack of choice paralysis. Stacking Encounter- made Industrial Ruins a breeze, even if I'm still searching for the right tome. Also, I feel better about dropping Dreamslip Tower in favor of getting Harle/Kid up in Toto in the future.
I finally found an enemy I couldn't delete in two turns. Second-to-last AS Saki fight. I wasn't prepared for its immunities, and since my best blunt users are either 4* Cerrine or NS Melina, it will probably take a while until I defeat it.
Also, I noticed that I missed on free stones by starting Octopath, and I feel like shit, Especially since I'm a Steam user, as my phone has too little memory for it without wiping off half the installed apps and Bluestacks sucks on my pc.
jesus, how old is your phone? The game is only ~9 GB. My phone is going on 5 years old and I constantly have around 30GB of free space on top of all my installed shit.
Currently 47 out of 55 GB. And I'm not exactly too keen on having two high-maintenance gachas on it since I already have Octopath on it (more daily logins and doing Tapjoy offers than actual playing). Honestly, most of my phone's space is taken by the PSP emulator and Romance Club. I can try moving the first one to my PC.

Try to do the crossovers as soon as they unlock. The Chrono Cross characteea are especially useful.
Also there is a rogue-like mode that unlocks reasonably early that is totally independant from your stats/level and can be uses to skip the vast majority of the equipment grind cycle until the deep endgame.
Other than that, have fun. Only time limited content is the Chrono Cross stuff and that is until 2026.

Every morning when you log in, you get a free single draw. Every character in the game is available on it. Each day you use your Whisper pull you get 1 Whisper currency. Once you get 10 Whisper currency, you can use it on a special banner that will give you one random 5* character.

I thought this was a normal whisper of time so I didn't even bother checking the rates, but regardless of whether the final door is guaranteed to be a 5* or guaranteed to be a 4.5*, saving 5 Chants for a solid character is a great pull.

How does the boost from the Power of Offense (Thunder/Crystal/Shade) grastas work? Is it only for "on zone" elemental damage, or is it a 15% boost for all damage? Cuz the latter would be pretty busted, especially for Crystal/Shade zones, which reward "off zone" type usage.
A quick test looks like it doesn't apply to damage that doesn't match the zone.
How long is the story for Dragon Palace 2? Need to farm that out, and might as well use the stones to try and get Iphi.
Long. It was released in 4 parts with an extremely long grind reward list. Requires completion of certain harpoon fishing objectives between some chapters.

Generally the quickest stones to get are the Astral Archive or Sebastia arena (whatever that's properly called) but that may be out of a new/middle phase player's grasp
Harpoon Fishing. I'd recommend starting now. One of the things is you can make traps and set them. Then come back an hour later and collect fish. This will boost your harpoon level and get you points while you focus on other stuff.
Should I be farming tomes early? I mean I'd want to tackle some VH stuff soon.
No. Early on your goal is to
1) get the Chrono Cross characters
2) get other crossover characters
big ass gap where you frick around doing side content like episodes and mythos to get stronger/more mats
3) get to chapter 55 to unlock Grasta
NEVER ever grind for equipment until endgame. Once you unlock Arat Maze Village via the Wanderer in the Vortex questline you can do the roguelike and get endgame shit with very little effort.

If you want a specific VC grasta, whichever AD drops those Tomes. Ideally it would be one that can also raise L/S for someone, like Miglance Castle for Aldo if you want Elseal's grasta.
Otherwise, Toto Theatre World is a fairly fast run with no boss, color coded Chant script rewards so you don't have to check the map name or open chests since you already know when there aren't any Chants, and slightly higher L/S gain than regular red key dungeons.
You can't get Opus from Green Keys, but for Codex and Treatise, Antiquity Garulea is great until you have enough Pain/Poison Grasta for all weapons, and the T1 and T2 Support grastas are also good to grab a couple of. Once you're good on AGAD farmables, Underworld, Omegapolis, and Entrana for the T3 Grastas and Armor. Once you've grabbed all of those, FGAD because it's still the only place where you can farm Last Stand, Rose-with-Thorns, and Nine Lives Ores with any reliability.

It depends on what you are trying to do. Sesta+AS Melody+AS Yipha+Frieren are probably enough for most stuff which don't resist/null Slash/Wind or gimmick bosses.

She's another prayer unit. Frankly she's not needed for a sesta team since sesta already maxes out her own buffs.
She's a Wind Prayer unit. Thing is, Wind is already stacked (Sesta, Ypha AS, Melody AS, Soira AS, Suzette, and then second stringers like Cynthia AS, Mistrare, AS). Honestly Wind is probably the strongest element these days.
Even if she's busted beyond belief, I'm not sure who you'd replace. You'd need to keep Sesta for damage and Melody for unlimited Another Zones. You'll probably want Soira as a tank. So I guess she'd be replacing Ypha AS? But this new girl will need to be absolutely busted to do that - Ypha AS' Faith + Beannacht Bua can already get Sesta to the damage cap so what more could the new girl bring?
with her Arcadia passive, her best use is making Aldo into a wind DPS which means locking yourself out of Sesta, Yipha and Melody
We know one of her stellar passives (Party -50% MP cost for 1 turn at start of battle, or -100% when upgraded)
one of her regular passives (in Wind Stance when 2+ Arcadia characters, +20% crit dmg and magic crit dmg; when 4 Arcadia characters, everyone Kaleido Wind)
and her 5* board skills
one is her Prayer where she goes into camouflage state, gives PWR+INT+SPD+weapon damage all 50% increase to the party for 5 turns, and if nobody takes any damage gives Prophecy to the party (good fricking luck) for +30 to all stats except HP/MP that stacks up to 3 times and also increases her buff power up to 100% increase, and her Prayer also comes with +50% damage and healing
the other is her attack that hits 1 enemy twice for a whopping 200% modifier, and then debuffs PWR and INT by 30% for 5 turns and inflicts 3 stacks of Wind Break. or in an awakened zone, 60% debuff and 6 stacks of break.
Against a single enemy she might be able to stack Prophecy if you have enough PWR/INT debuffs to zero out damage but honestly she doesn't look very appealing to me for any teams she might be useful in

I'm not seeing it. It looks like if your Yipha AS has ~500 spirit Sesta will be doing more damage with Yipha AS than with Melpiphia.

Fair, but if you're using the typical Wind team, Sesta, Yipha AS, Melody AS and Soira AS, the bonus damage from bringing Melpiphia to Melody AS and Soira AS probably isn't enough to make up for the lower damage on Sesta. If you can get by without needing a tank, so you're using Suzette instead of Soira AS, then yeah, Melpiphia would end up bringing more damage. But most superbosses these days require a tank, especially if you're not bringing Iphi.
I guess we'll just have to wait to see the numbers, but from what I'm seeing Melpiphia looks like more of a sidegrade or even a slight downgrade for a top of the line Wind team.
Being a buffer/debuffer who can also give healing, HP/MP bonus, shield, status cure at the the same already made her looks more useful to me

I mean, I do have them but Cerrine is 4.5, Azami is 4.5 and Gariyu is at 3 stars right now. I'm not using my precious chant scripts on these guys.
Gariyu NS with True Manifest is decent for Fire magic damage. Azami AS is also decent but needs specific set-up. I guess you can also use Iphi instead of Kid for debuffing enemies.

I'm not sure which ES or Alter is even worth unlocking right now, though. Radias AS is still good, from what I gathered. Thilililililie ES is also quite good, probably. Toova ES, maybe. There's a lot, it's just quite annoying to look at them and figure out who's worth 5 chant scripts.

Cerrine, Azami, and Gariyu are the best characters to use Chants on. For one, you can never get them from the gacha which means Chants are the ONLY way to upgrade them, and you will never be disappointed that you wasted 5 Chants just to pull someone offbanner that would have saved you those 5 Chants. Azami AS is a great carry, Gariyu TM is a solid damage dealer, and Cerrine AS is now a free Flash Zone unit

Anyways, I'm currently at main story chapter 105 and cleared out all of the part 1.5 hidden bosses and some of the part 2 hidden bosses before I stopped. Which is something I just wanted to add because I feel I might be coming off as a bit of a new player? If Azami AS is still great for where I'm at, I'll use my chant scripts.
Azami AS is a super strong single target damage dealer. She's got a bit of a gimmick but I used her for a number of superboss fights, and I've got most of the characters in the game so it's not like I didn't have any choice. She's just really good.

Azami AS has a 7500x mod attack, that doesn't require any setup. You just need to make sure none of your other characters deal damage before she does. Her one trick is that the attack has delay, so you'll need to have your other party members use buffs or non-damaging skills. Her other attack inflicts Break on enemies which will cause her main attack to deal x2 damage. You can boost that even higher if you can get an Eagle Eyes buff on her from someone like Daisy Wenifica or Ilulu Alter. Really, there's only 2 or 3 characters who can consistently put out comparable damage. For any fight with a single target boss who doesn't resist or null Wind damage, Aazami AS is always a solid option.
An easy combo is to put her with Curio, who can act as a Grasta slaveand provide no damage break every turn.

Also Reversion Ores from FGAD onward. Personal experience says Omegapolis is the best source of them because they show up fairly often and in stacks of 2-4, but if you have bad luck FGAD is more consistant.
I prefer Full HP grastas from PGAD compares to <80% HP grastas but I guess ymmv.

Those are one time only rewards, not things that you can continue to farm once you're done collecting the one time fixed drops.
Notice how I didn't mention Falcon grasta from Underworld or any of the Entrana grasta either, because those you get one of each and then you no longer farm that dungeon for more of them because there is no more of them.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I'll keep running Omegapolis until I get all of the important stuff at the very least. My issue is that my Shade team shits on everything in Omegapolis but only has 165 shadow while my Water team does not shit on everything bu thas 400 light.
By not shitting on everything I mostly mean the bosses needing 2 turns and phase shift (tree of time) being borderline impossible to do without somebody dying which sucks.
You should always take the character who can gain Light/Shadow from a dungeon into that dungeon
Iphi+Flammelapis is a massive buff for a single hit aoe damage dealer. If you have Felmina ES, those 3 handled the entire dungeon for me while carrying 2 light batteries+Ashtear
if you don't have Felmina ES (or Minalca, the other damage dealer I used) an option that I haven't used but MIGHT be viable is Ashtear, Prai, Alter Shion, and 3 free slots for L/S batteries. Ashtear is the damage dealer with Dimension Bomb, Shion uses Paper Tiger against the Comansteed horror and otherwise uses Attack Order, Prai uses Indulgence, you'd have Kumos as your MP battery and stack Prai with enough max MP and MP cost down where he can Indulgence every fight, Iphi is the best 4th slot for Rosa Liliac but if you can't get up to 360 L/S with those 4 plus 2 batteries she's the easiest one to drop
or you could Stellar Awaken Aldo and just t1AF every single fight, but spamming an AF every single fight every dungeon run would suck so I'd swap away from that strategy ASAP
tl;dr I would stop running Omegapolis FOR NOW and farm a different dungeon instead until you get a party that has 360 Light or Shadow while also including Ashtear and can clear every fight in 1 turn.
Strawboy is the go-to early game budget Light battery since you can get him to 255 Light by just farming experience (or feeding him EXP scrolls) and reincarnating him

So with this I've pulled every character from the Shade banner EXCEPT Iphi. Fricking cursed, man.
I wanted to use my SDE on Sesta since I'd have an insane Wind team (Yipha AS, Soira AS, Sesta, and then SA Suzette/Melody AS/whatever), but my Shade team is potentially looking pretty nice too.
I want to beg you to send me your luck but Iphi is my pipe dream too.

Pick her with the next SDE. Iphi is one of those characters that will never get powercreeped. She just does too many things and they're all great.
Fricking sucks. I want to keep pulling for Iphi, but I'm missing a ton of characters on the other zone banners. Velette, Alter Premaya, and ES Miyu on Thunder. Alma, Mariel ES, Mistrare AS, and Alter Dewey on Crystal.
So it's basically down to if I want to try to fish out an Iphi when I have everything else, to open up my SDE for Sesta without making it a painful choice, or if I go hunting for Velette + Miyu in Thunder, or Alma + Dewey + Mistrare in Crystal and then face the hard choice of Sesta or Iphi.
Oh right, I didn't get Wenefica since I had no interest in her at the time. Guess that might come back to bite me if I decide to build a Shade team.
You can run a budget shade team off AS Milsha due to her songs inflicting Lunatic to keep Yakumo's skills ar full power and using her zone (can't be Awakened though) or magic zone. Not as efficient as Iphi as she has all that and debuffs and poison/pain in two skills.

So what are the core Shade characters? Is Shade stronger than Wind?
Wind >= Thunder > Shade > everything else. Wind and Thunder have unlimited Zone Awakenings which is a massive benefit, especially seeing as how it's more and more common for superbosses to break existing zones and set their own zones. Those two are definitely the strongest elements. I'd rate Wind a little stronger than Thunder because I feel like Soira AS is a better tank than Orleya AS and Sesta is a better damage dealer than any of the Thunder ones. Shade is the third strongest, mainly thanks to how broken Iphi is.
For a Shade team your core members will be Iphi and then Yakumo or Wenefica for damage. Then you may want something like Toova ES for support and you'll probably want Isuka ES as a tank. But depending on the fight you could bring in Harle to give yourself immunity to the enemy's Type damage.
I'm going to SKIP some character quests and maybe look them up on Youtube later so I can grind out another 10-15 manifests before 10x is up. I thought it was already over and wasted like 10 red keys yesterday.

Anyone know how Death Curse's damage is counted in the archives? If you use it mid-AF, are the points limited to the AF total or is the EOT counted separately? Hoping I can rofl Yakumo through all the last tiers I've missed.
If I'm just starting to get my grasta ores, should I spend much time in Future Garulea, or just get the one time rewards and immediately head to Underworld?
I would personally prioritize Underworld, because that lets you get your Falcon's Blessing grastas while also stocking up on some Bull's Eye Ores which are the best damage buff for running ADs provided you're not wasting 20 minutes doing a T1AF every fight with SA Aldo.
Once you have a decent amount of Bull's Eye ores and the Falcon and maybe even Cup of Invincibility grasta you need, I'd hop back to FGAD to stock up on Rose-with-Thorns, Last Stand, and probably Nine Lives ores as well since all of them can be very useful and you want enough that you aren't constantly draining all of your Reversion Ores when you put together a new team for a superboss, battle simulator, or astral archive tome.

Plus I know the Wind team can beat pretty much everything, if I'm not mistaken.
On the other hand, Iphi would give me a pretty cool Shade team of Iphi, Yakumo, Toova ES, and then a flex slot of Radias AS/Milsha AS/whatever.
The wildcard option would be taking Velette for a sick Thunder team of Velette, Orleya AS, SA Oboro, and then flexing ES Melina/ES Miyu/whatever.

Iphi goes in EVERY AD farming team. free 70% damage buff that also automatically enables Low HP grasta and Elpis armor with no animation and if that's still somehow not enough she can either Rosa Liliac for -35% type resist and Pain/Poison, Nocturnal Procession for +50% PWR/INT/SPD, or Walpurgisnacht for mental focus and Shade Stance's universal damage buff.
She's the single best character for battle simulators because she lets Lunatic characters like Eva who say "this character sucks if the battle goes on too long because they run out of Lunatic :(" stay in Lunatic indefinitely, and when the boss does a fricking annoying team wipe attack Iphi says "nah", redirects it to a single character, and then revives them.
Enemy does annoying shit with barriers? Iphi gives barrier pierce. Enemy spams status ailments? Iphi can cure them and give barriers. Enemy spams knockback? I forgot that was even a mechanic because Iphi can give immunity to that too. Enemy has 2000 SPT?

Toto Theatre World is, on average, a 24.8% chance to gain light per red key which is 4.8% better than Miglance Castle.
However Toto Theatre World can split its light among all free characters in the party so you'd have to have Aldo as the only free character, and Miglance Castle can drop Tomes for a few characters so if you want Elseal's Mailed Sheep Tome or Felmina's Galeforce to either uprade from 4.5* or make VC grasta there's still merit in Miglance Castle.
I'd expect to get about 100 Light by the time you get 30 of a specific tome to make a true VC grasta, and then the rest I'd get from running Toto Theatre World with no other free characters.

I really do enjoy my comp of Iphi + Yakumo + Shion Alter + Dewey Alter yet I can't help but feel like it has a few shortcomings, namely:

>Enemy oneshots Iphi and then does an AoE attack
>Enemy does an AoE attack and oneshots whoever is rightmost followed by a single-target attack knocking out that same ally
>Enemy just gets "lucky" and uses a single target attack on the same ally twice in a row
My first turn on Iphi is pretty much always being used to set up Walpurgis. Any advice on how to not turn some harder fights (stuff like S rank bounty superbosses) into coinflips?

Powerful prayers - has Wind support and as the fourth Arcadia unit now enables their type matching gimmick if you roll a full Arcadia frontline. Will play around with it myself - Wryz can force Water, Melp Wind and Cerius pierce I believe. Sazanca will probably be Earth but could force Blunt.
Melissa's lv10 manifest fight is going to suck ass, jesus. Four lives on lv1.

Gonna be honest, I'm not liking the game as much anymore. A couple of months ago I would have been stoked to get an off-banner character who just released. Instead, now I have to wait 2 more months to get the starcharts to be able to use them. But I'll need those starcharts for Thill or someone else. So at this rate, I might not ever use Alma AS and she's just going to be sitting at 1/3 on my bench forever.
So if I'm reading Melpenis' kit right, you want her to be in the Duck! prayer for the first 3 turns of a fight so you get hit 3 times and have everyone gain 90 to all stats, then swap to Get Em! for +100% Power, Int, Speed, Weapon damage, Damage, and Healing.
Or if you can somehow guarantee NOBODY is attacked for 3 turns, you can just Get Em! the entire fight. But that would mean either sticking Sleep/Stun consistantly or hitting HP stoppers on bossses that don't counter.
Her heal seems kind of a waste when her stellar skill ALSO heals but also buffs max HP and MP, gives herself a shield, cures statuses, and can remove debuffs. Like yeah it's a 100% heal vs a 30% HP buff and 40% heal so it'll sometimes be the reason someone survives but I don't see it being worth the slot.
Having her activate Wind Stance seems terrible since the buff only lasts 1 fricking turn and you have to use the skill twice to awaken zone and it's only once per battle and her sleep... I don't think I've EVER had a sleep skill I used ACTUALLY put an enemy to sleep.
So she's really just 2 prayers and debuff+break support unit.
Literally the only thing in her kit that interests me is how she can remove debuffs with Stellar Burst so frick it, I'm skipping.
after looking at Alma AS, she seems like 1 Stellar character whose SA is completely inconsequential to her role. Unless the wiki fricked up with her SA skills, none of them affect her Arcana stacking or crystal stance, none of them change her Guard or her Rage or any of her other skills.
She just gets a skill that lets other characters pierce Barriers while curing statuses and removing debuffs, and gets some Stellar Burst Gauge buffs and Stellar Burst type resist debuff.
Like yeah, SAing her so she can give other characters Pierce and remove debuffs and also revive in Stellar Burst is cool, but base 5* Alma AS is like Prai on steroids.
Kit analysis seems correct except it neglects the Link Ability, which as a gimmick will really hinge on how good Wryz's 5* and SA are and how good subsequent Arcadia chars are.
oh right forgot about the Arcadia thing, they just feel WAY too unsynergistic for me to consider a team of them right now.
sure she can make Cerius and Aldo and Wryz all deal Wind damage, but Cerius will still do Pierce Break which will overwrite Melpeepee's Wind Break and Wryz's Fang move will debuff Water Resistance while she is stuck dealing Wind damage
if they changed it so Kaleido also affected elemental buffs and debuffs (and Break so Melpepe can work with Wryz in Water Zone) obviously it would somewhat help fix it but there would still be so few synergies between them
I actually feel like her best party is going to be something like
Her + Aldo + Necoco AS + SA Suzette.
2 Arcadia members for 20% crit damage buff, she prays, Aldo does Aldo stuff, Necoco supplies the Kaleido, and Suzette supplies Wind Zone with Bolt of Bahamut, sets Pain/Poison, and deals damage
Maybe a couple more Arcadia members could put together something that pretends to be synergystic but for now I'd mostly either consider just her in Wind Zone with no Arcadia, just her+Aldo in Wind Zone while Aldo either uses Fire/Null attacks or get Necoco'd, or her outside of a Zone entirely.

I have some biases as an aspiring writer and a polyglot, and personally think Japanese lends itself to being very dry and boring in written form unless in the hands of a very skilled writer, most of whom break convention or delve into archaism to produce interesting prose in the language, with characterization and dialogue being the languages (and their writers, by extension) weakest points. Speaking normally while performing goofy actions isn't anything noteworthy.
That's not to say I approve of the disaster the English version is, mind. Just saying that one version goes too far while the other doesn't even attempt to try, whereas the middle ground on this one may have actually worked.
But her being dry is intended. If every character "tried" then every character would be the same, other than a handful of over-the-top outliers. She's supposed to be comparable to Ruina, another dry Elf character, rather than more "trying" characters like Akane or Azami or Myrus or Shannon.

How to change the dragon type after finishing the episode?
I think you have to do more adventures with him. There's a quest that requires 100 stat total - probably that.
Looks like the duration of his auto quests got ratchetted way up - 2 hours for the basic ones and 9 hours for the final one. You can get up to 8 points per adventure and need 100, which means you need to run the lower tier quests at least 11 times (as you need to hit 15 total stat points to advance from chapt 2 to chapt 3). That means it realistically should take 3-4 days if you are super anal about it.
of SA, are they really that worthwhile?
All of them except Alma's and the Octopath chars, basically. Wenefica's lets you do an easy max damage nuke after HP stopper, for instance. Chiruriru's lets her keep her enhance state up continuously.
Melpi SA isn't really necessary either, she is best using as a defensive prayer type imo, particularly for that free 90+ stats then switching to attack type while doing whatever that you need in between
Her SA is really useful as a skill but you can get by without it on her
Use the item on the chest which is behind those things although the 3rd chest will be Wyrz grasta proof instead.

Yipha AS. An absolutely busted support who's can easily be thrown into any team. Good to grab, but not needed right now if you're new.
Pizzica can also hard carry you through most content. Her Oratorio skill, which is what I used her most for, gives 50% damage reduction, and at the turn's end, it cleanses statuses, heals HP and MP, and charges your AF gauge.
You both mentioned yiphas so I'm leaning that way. I know yakumo has synergy with iphi and toova. I'm worried about focusing so hard on one type though.

Right now I have a "water" team (Eva + Pizza + Yuna AS + Flamme) and a cracked shade one (Iphi, Yakumo, Shion Alter) with some jack of all trades like Necoco and Dewey Alter.
Know what happens if a superboss nulls or absorbs shade? I cry and skip it.
Yakumo can only serve as a DPS in magic/shade teams or sometimes other elements if kaleido'd but that's a fair bit of setup
Yipha AS can support damn near every single DPS with Faith+Beannacht Bua giving massive stat buffs and then damage buffs

It's not too bad. You get 45 Light/Shadow per month with both subscriptions. Aldo and Nona are both farmable. Any day one player probably has Lele and Miyu close to 120 by now. So you're only building Orleya and Alma up from 16 L/S. So altogether it would only take around 12-13 months of using the monthly l/s bonus to get those 4 characters to 255, assuming you never pulled dupes or used any l/s items.

Mariel ES prayer with push back res was key for the tunnel master for me, but you can probably do him with any team as long as you can tank and out dps his push back with remaining team
Melpiphia made the ice master fight a breeze, she is somehow dodging the instant kill move since she is always the last one in my fights
I don't even remember what did I do to forest master, guy died pretty fast like in one hit iirc

Lavog is a piece of shit, and he WILL frick you up if your damage rolls are even slightly too low (due to the main body living) or slightly too high (due to accidentally killing the other Lavogs)

Yes, this was very hard. I had a pretty tough time because he always hits for like 10k or something around those numbers. I came up with the Iphi RNG reset strat after trying to use something like Melissa + Pizza + Dewey Alter for defensive options but he STILL just punched me for 10k. So I just had to reset until he killed 0-1 person (not allowed to be Iphi or Yakumo), Iphi reapplies Walpurgis to let your party survive the 2nd HP stopper and THEN he has to not hit Yakumo twice in a row again. Took like 10-20 resets.
or just use Aldo on the front line so he doesn't do all of that stuff

I think Origin Force on Aldo can get rid of that but just having Aldo in the frontline definitely won't reduce his damage by 10x.

in basically every tome clear I did I had at least 1, if not 2, personality characters spam skills like [weapon] Prayer or Fresh Heal while Sesta did the damage cap every single round because her raw damage wasn't enough
