It has a lot of promise, but it has some edges to make a little better, and I hope it can. It seriously feels like a GBA game and it has a lot of details too. But once the few flaws are dealt with, it will be a lot better.

This isn't true. If you don't let go of the dash button you just stop. The hammer jump is entirely contextual, if you press it at any point in the air you do the jump, if you press it on the ground you dash. That's all there is to it. If you hold the button from a jump off a ledge it works the same as if you held it on the ground. If you want to keep the boost chain going you can just wait until you touch the ground and the combo won't reset as long as you hit it again right after.
The boost system is basically ripped wholesale from CTR if you're familiar with that.
Oh, I forgot to mention that if you want to keep a boost going without dashing again or doing the hammer just do a regular jump when you hit the ground. You maintain dash momentum and boost counter if you just bunny hop, but you don't get the added speed each manual boost gives you.

Well if you like classic Doom there's the Treasure Tech mod. It turns Doomguy into not-Wario and lets you tackle enemies, grab and throw them at each other, among other things. It's really fun and addictive.
As of now there isn't a map pack made specifically for the mod, but the dev is working on one and there is a demo available.
Also if you want more WL4 check out the Parallel World and Burning Nightmares romhacks. They're both very good, with the former being an entire new campaign and the latter a single long level which is a tribute to all Wario games.
Antonblast is a mix of Virtual Boy Wario Land and Wario Land 4.
Also quite a bit of Crash Bandicoot.

I think removing the breakable checkpoints from the first demo but also greatly reducing the max HP was an interesting decision.
Reducing the HP was a good call, in the first demo you had so much you could face-tank everything and be fine. I miss the breakable checkpoints though, if I'm smashing through every checkpoint I see I'm clearly fine with starting a little further back.

I thought they were toll booths, so breaking them giving you more score made sense. It was basically Shovel Knight's checkpoint system.

It's pretty fun, Wario Land meets Crash filled to the brim with late 90s/early 2000s 'tude with beautifully put together sprite work and a great soundtrack to match.
I'd my only issue is the health system and how obfuscated some stuff is. Anton is incredibly wild and fast but still has a small health pool which makes getting hit from something you couldn't have seen or something that very easily blended in the background annoying. With the state of the thread I do hate to compare it to Pizza Tower but PT being Wario + Sonic let them not punish you at all for getting hit and left it in scoring, which I think is great when you have such fast, wild, powerful yet difficult to manage characters. I'd like to see some stuff made more obvious, make the lava a brighter colour, reduce the number but increase the size of the nitro crates, and maybe give Anton more health but give players a penalty for being too reckless, maybe accidentally destroying a pathway to a hidden item or destroying a checkpoint, I don't know.

The demo actually does this a lot. For example in Boiler City if you immediately destroy the crates under the beam to the right of the entrance it locks you out of two secrets, one above the beam and one where you have to roll under it in ball form later. And then of course you've got stuff like the standard Crash box jumping puzzles in a couple areas.

I agree with most of the rest of your post though. PT has kind of sparse looking levels but they were also very readable (with a couple of noticeable exceptions, looking at you Fast Food Saloon). Antonblast has so much going on sometimes that it's hard to see what's happening sometimes, especially when you're going fast and with the background-foreground stuff. I've gotten pretty used to it after a couple playthroughs though.
It's nice that the secret thing is in the game, but I do wish it meant we had more health. I wouldn't mind how cluttered and busy the frame was if being reckless only resulted in missing out on secrets and items, not potential damage. Charging into something you could barely see or something you couldn't see at all that kills you is pretty unfun in an otherwise really fun game. I actually like how cluttered it is besides that, smashing through crates flying all over the screen is like Crash on crack. But yeah, Pizza Tower and Sonic both have similarly fast characters, but they're much more readable and in both games getting hit barely matters. It's a shame too when the CTR boost mechanic is so damn fun. It's still really fun, I just got a bit frustrated on the escape for the 2nd demo level and getting bounced around into off screen turret shots, nitro crates and barely legible lava. I understand I'm playing reckless, fast and aggressive in a level I don't know, but that feels like the point of the game and I think the punishment is a bit too strict. Way easier when I slowed down but became a bit less fun.
The lava is the worst part of the demo, even with complaints the game is a blast and so well made it's hard to imagine that these devs really thought 1 iota darker of a shade from the ground is a good lava colour, especially when at least on Switch the lava itself is barely visible, you only see like 4 pixels of it.
I will say that I think the game is mostly designed around not rushing as much, it's a little bit more of a standard platformer compared to speed-focused games like Pizza Tower or Sonic. Especially with the second level being as Crash 1 inspired as it is, I think the intended experience is to just focus on getting through first, and then going fast once you're more familiar with things. You can go pretty fast once you know the layout though.

There's no ranking system, and though you can do long combos like PT there are some stretches where the game doesn't give you anything to extend with so I don't think full combo-ing a level is really something you're going to have to worry about.
The tradeoff is that the game itself is significantly harder, especially with the secrets and collectables, and ESPECIALLY that one FRICKING secret in Cinnamon Springs where you have to do multiple coyote time jumps at max speed one right after another.

This feels harder to play than Pizza Tower for some reason. Perhaps my brain is so used to PT's gameplay. Nevertheless, I liked everything I saw. There's something so satisfying about this formula WL4 has established.
This game seems to be more precise with how you perform movements, since it has a CTR dash meter, and there's way more hazards. I guess with Pizza Tower, there's more time to react, movements feel more precise and Peppino can pretty much traverse more easily like running up and off walls, while here you have precise jumps and all that.
It's a middleground between Wario Land and Pizza Tower, I feel.
It's fun, but also less forgiving. The bounce move and those jumps between the tiny crates feel more precise than they should be.

It felt very long after Pizza Tower's charmingly short levels. Reminded me of some of Crash 4's exhaustingly long levels. I like games with smaller levels. The levels in Shovel Knight: King of Cards are more plentiful but much shorter than those in the earlier Shovel Knight entries and it was a nice shift in my opinion.

That is unfortunate that it does look similar to Pizza Tower, it probably took a lot of wind out of its sails

With playing the demo for a while one thing that bothers me is the ground dash and air hammer twirl thing being bound to the same button
I wish these were separate buttons instead because the game is so visually busy that I can't always perfectly tell when I'm on the ground to use the dash, I keep doing the hammer twirl when I'm only just above ground which is kind of annoying because of how long it bounces you in the air

the combo is already gone the instant happy hour starts, you don't have any combo to refresh going for those crates on the right
I was able to keep it going after Happy Hour began.
Maybe this could be how they make the combos worth maintaining. The higher your combo is when you activate happy hour the more time you get. Like in that video he'd get an extra 33 seconds for having a 330 combo
Now that’s an idea! It’d help set the escape sequence apart more from other wario-likes too.
The idea of the combo resulting in some sort of reward is good, but I don't believe it should extend the timer. Someone skilled enough to pull off a high level combo through the whole level is never gonna need more time to complete the escape sequence. It's just making the game easier for people who are already good at the game, when if anything, those people would probably appreciate an additional challenge more.
It's sad because Warioland 4 is the worst out of the 4 Wariolands.

At first I thought it was based on the CTR boost meter and you just had to time it for when the meter is right at the end but I've noticed it can happen even when the boost meter is half full
The extra speed boost is cool but feels inconsistent because I don't know how it happens in the first place
oh and to add, it has nothing to do with the enemies too as I've been able to do the spin randomly when there's no enemies nearby
I think it's if you time the boost right as you're about to break something or kill an enemy as you're already charging forward
Yeah you're right, with testing it a bit I notice it only happens if you boost right before the multi-colored blocks and enemies but it doesn't work for the ordinary boxes
You need to hammer dash right before making contact with an enemy.
the color palette makes it hard to see what is solid and what isn't. text everywhere for maximum clutter too.
Antonblast demo was extremely fun, the second level was a bit confusing to navigate because I'm a dumbdumb. Will no doubt love it as much as I love Pizza Tower.
