Seems like the only issue is if you play 2 at 144, rather than 120 or 240.
If anything else: hopefully the omission of 4k and oled was worth it then
>4K >on a handheld >OLED >on a device that's supposed to live longer than two years
Are you legitimately moronic or just brainlessly spouting every meme you can think of?
I'm playing the "wait possibly to the end of Q3 for my email" game.
In the meantime I'm already using Linux, so unlike some stupids who have no idea what will run on Linux, I'm not going to have buyer's remorse when I get it.

I guess I'll just put it on eBay if I get bored.
Avoid it if you don't like israelites. A sale that big and they have to report you and the activity to the IRS.
On top of ebay's 13% fee, you will be paying the IRS 15% in taxes.
I was on the fence like you until mine came in and I started seeing what can be done with it. Wii U, PS3 and everything below that is emulatable, and Emudeck makes the integration of your entire rom library look clean as hell. That plus having access to my whole Steam library on top of it is just bananas. Personally, it's the happiest I've been with a new console purchase since I got a PS3.
I wasn't even gonna bother. Then my friend who got his a few days before me said PS3 emulation works great. I honestly couldn't believe it worked.
This hardware has an obscene amount of coverage.
I think it was like 22 watts. Definitely have to play stuff like this while on the charger. Which is fine, I got a 45watt charger with a 6ft cord, so playing my Deck in bed has been very comfy ever since.

I mean back to my original point, I didn't even expect to be able to play PS3 games period. So it's a nice bonus despite the sacrifice that, yeah, I won't be playing 7th gen emulation unless I'm on a charger.
PS2 and GC emulation(which is the big reason I DID buy this thing) draws 11-13w. Which is a good play session before a battery drain.
To me the whole playing on the go was killed the second we saw the size of the thing. I'm not pulling this out while on the bus or something. But if I'm at an airport or the laundromat? SteamBoy is coming with.

>PS2 and GC emulation(which is the big reason I DID buy this thing) draws 11-13w. Which is a good play session before a battery drain.
Yeah, that's totally serviceable. The problem is when I see something ridiculous like 25W pull.
>To me the whole playing on the go was killed the second we saw the size of the thing
It's not as much about playing on the go as it is about convenience and having freedom of movement. I don't wanted to be tethered to a wall. I want to actually use it as a handheld, so anything above 13.3W is where I draw the line on power consumption.

I never checked playing 4th and 5th gen titles. Would be interested to see what kind of draw they pull. 9w and below would be pretty cool.
As for the not being tethered to a wall, I do get that. Sometimes its fun to just unplug and roll around the couch or move around the living room during a long session.
But having such a diverse library in your literal hands is still hard for me to wrap my head around.
For new Deck owners, when you go to Desktop mode make sure to show hidden files and folders. It will be important if you want to say... browse into a Steamapps directory for a game. I wanted to install my mod to undub/return Japanese audio to Final Fantasy IV 3D Remake (along with some other changes like the fonts and whatnot), but I was a bit surprised that the Big Picture like mode on the deck did not have a "open to game directory" by default, but it wasn't exactly difficult to get to it. Just know you'll need to go into the hidden Steam/SteamOS directory to get there and then its the same general Steam directory layout you're used to. Also don't forget that to bring up the on screen KB both on Desktop and Steam/BigPicture mode, the shortcut is the "Steam button + X button".
Does anyone have a lot of experience using the game Streaming functionality to stream to your Deck (or for that matter something else like a phone), where your desktop PC is running the game?
From what I see of the deck so far, it's not really any different from my gpd win max. I don't know if I will bother buying one when my Q3 rolls around. Should bump some UK 512gb up the queue, so you're welcome.
>Same filename every single time
what's so weird about it? I posted it, and people use different amusing filenames. I have seen a few. "mogged" is one, and "product showcase" then a string of numbers if they want to pretend to be a chink shill.
Not that guy, because that guy is baiting for (You)s but I would recommend it. If you're interested in the deck, there is little difference apart from the trackpads vs the keyboard. They're both playing the same games. The win max might be able to get a little more battery out of it with a TDP switcher, but they're functionally very similar.

Fair enough since both use cases occupy the same niche. If you buy the GPD or the Deck it's a win for the consumer anyways and shows a growing interest in this market.

Just pick up a laptop in the same way you would the win max - ignoring the weight difference it just feels weird to hold unless you have small hands. If it was a Switch form factor you could at least fix this with 3d printed grips

Probably legal review to make sure that there are no patents being violated. Microsoft was able to shut down commercial use of SteamOS 2 by leaning on OEMs over patent licensing.
If Valve can ensure that there are no patents Microsoft could use, then they can indemnify OEMs against lawsuits which will make it more likely to ship on other hardware.
Same thing Google had to do to get their GNU/Linux distro ChromeOS out on mainstream hardware.
SteamOS was barely ready for the Steam Deck, they probably have to work out a way of making all the hardware controls play nice across different hardware. The win600 - the only other handheld currently available that advertises SteamOS - cannot use TDP controls
In addition to the massive legal shit they have to do, there's still a lot of technical work to go on it. I imagine they are going to want >Wayland >HDR >Proper scaling for 4k displays >Fully functional screen sharing on Steam/Discord

Really? Last I played was the horrendous spanish translation patch. Do you have a link? I'd love to play this on my PVM on an intense acid trip. Playing in spanish made that a bit difficult.
>It's also on cdromance
Is the inventory system as fricked as the spanish version? Every item name was shortened to make it fit the text limits, making item names totally unintelligible.
So you don't have to wait for shader compilation in game.
I can understand doing it once, as in theory the cache should be the same for every steam deck. But every day? For games that haven't gotten an update in years? How is that even possible?
They are definitely being way too conservative about the nature of what games get the verified status or not. Almost every single game that is rated as "playable" I have in my library rather than verified is only that way because on startup for the first time you might have to manually activate the keyboard or something.
As far as I can tell the only reason Dark Souls Remastered isn't listed as perfect is because it doesn't automatically prompt the on-screen keyboard during your name input.
Yeah I mean normies would get pissed off at that shit and think the deck was trash because it didn't behave exactly like their smart phone, so it makes sense
Put on the gamescope display to show system power, cap refresh at 40hz, cap TDP down just before it starts to interfere with frame pacing, reduce in game shadow quality and disable AA or set it to something minimal like TAA. Pay attention to power usage.
Started and finished Bastion on Monday/Tuesday. Played some through Scanner Sombre last night. Been chipping away at Hollow Knight all week. A bit of Hades and DMC3 sprinkled throughout. MHP3rd here and there.
no I got the 256gb variant. Honestly, it might pay off because the proton shader caches default to it. Otherwise I really should have went for the 64gb version.
Does SteamDeck desktop mode actually block pirating sites or am I moronic? All basic websites are working, but say I try igg.com, it will timeout. Using firefox that came with it. Help a moron out, I want to pirate the stupid cat game.

I played baldur's gate Dark Alliance 2 for like 16 hours straight and only had to charge like, twice.
Does it hold up? 30 dollars for a super old game is somewhat steep but if its a good time then maybe
I played it for 16 hours straight, what do you think?
>SMT1 psx finally translated
Perfect time
Where?
cdromance
GBA mapamundi is better, though trying to navigate in gba is a pain in the ass and very dizzy and confusing. Making the exploration in 3d for ps1 will make me give it another chance
Downloading now, thanks for the tip.
The Baroque translation came out a few days ago too btw
>The Baroque translation came out a few days ago too btw
Really? Last I played was the horrendous spanish translation patch. Do you have a link? I'd love to play this on my PVM on an intense acid trip. Playing in spanish made that a bit difficult.
It's also on cdromance
>It's also on cdromance
Is the inventory system as fricked as the spanish version? Every item name was shortened to make it fit the text limits, making item names totally unintelligible.
From what I've seen item names are spelled out pretty clearly, ailments are abbreviated to 3 letters though
Play Hellnight too, underrated horror game from Atlus

25 DIFFERENT GAME UPDATES EVERY SINGLE DAY WHEN I TURN IT ON?
shader cache. they take like 2 seconds and you can play games without them, just ignore that shit
I can understand doing it once, as in theory the cache should be the same for every steam deck. But every day? For games that haven't gotten an update in years? How is that even possible?
Updates to drivers and new shaders from parts of games that nobody got to on Steam Deck
So you don't have to wait for shader compilation in game.
what went wrong?
Anyone knows how to run eroge? Visual novels and rpg makers games, stuff like that. How do I deal with japanese locale?
A lot of console gamer rage in here that I'm playing all their games on my deck 😉
I'm interested in a
>Deck 2.0
>Deck Mini
Please forward my feedback to Valve's marketing dept.
steam verified:
>this game doesn't work
me:
>"I'm playing it anyway"
>it just werks
what a chad OS
They are definitely being way too conservative about the nature of what games get the verified status or not. Almost every single game that is rated as "playable" I have in my library rather than verified is only that way because on startup for the first time you might have to manually activate the keyboard or something.
As far as I can tell the only reason Dark Souls Remastered isn't listed as perfect is because it doesn't automatically prompt the on-screen keyboard during your name input.
Yeah I mean normies would get pissed off at that shit and think the deck was trash because it didn't behave exactly like their smart phone, so it makes sense
Are they even on day 2 of the 256gb pre-orders yet?
The battery on this thing is awful huh? I just tested Doom Eternal for an hour, battery 50%, wtf is that?
ur pulling 15 watts from a 30 whr battery. Deck runs well when you are pulling less than that, so it works best on old games or indie titles
It's 20W on a 40W/h battery.
What the frick did you expect when you play it at max voltage?
You need to adjust settings.
Put on the gamescope display to show system power, cap refresh at 40hz, cap TDP down just before it starts to interfere with frame pacing, reduce in game shadow quality and disable AA or set it to something minimal like TAA. Pay attention to power usage.
20W = 2 hours
13W = 3 hours
10W = 4 hours
8W = 5 hours
Only a moron would buy a 1-2 hour battery platform . zbye
>console has 0 hour battery life
Makes you think
Started and finished Bastion on Monday/Tuesday. Played some through Scanner Sombre last night. Been chipping away at Hollow Knight all week. A bit of Hades and DMC3 sprinkled throughout. MHP3rd here and there.
I'm mad. I accidently spoiled my Christmas present and my GF got me a SteamDeck she's been keeping in the back of the closet.
the only thing you should be mad about is that you haven't wifed her yet.
waiting for my 1tb ssd to arrive before i absolutely dump as many roms as I can fit on it.
You got the right size, right?
no I got the 256gb variant. Honestly, it might pay off because the proton shader caches default to it. Otherwise I really should have went for the 64gb version.
Meant to say SD card, not SSD. I'm not opening the deck yet until the battery or the analog stick dies. Then I'll swap out the SSD.
Oh got it. I thought to meant SSD. Looking for 1TB SSDs that fit the Steam Deck form factor brought me to some sketchy places.
Does SteamDeck desktop mode actually block pirating sites or am I moronic? All basic websites are working, but say I try igg.com, it will timeout. Using firefox that came with it. Help a moron out, I want to pirate the stupid cat game.
Post YFW you didn't buy a deck
I did tho. It's awesome.
wtf happened to his ears and chin???
Zoomed off
only responded to yourself four times this thread eh? running out of *steam* are we? heh, (:
still have to wait until after october lmao, as if i'll even have the money for the stupid thing by then
>game says unsupported
>boot it up anyways
>it actually just works
Regardless of the Steam Deck itself, proton is fricking magic and may be one of the most impressive feats of programming ever.
Can anyone tell me how good Saturn, N64, GC, PS2, PS3, OG Xbox emulation is on the deck?
Taking a short break from Onii-Kiss to eat some tendies
frick that's a lot of condiments
They are all so fricking good I just mix them together
Lose some falcon weight you fat bastard.
>falcon weight
shit dude. lose some falcon weight. seriously.
That’s mostly the deck
underrated post
the dedication required to create a 3meg gif of this
