King's Bounty.
you may have heard of a series called heroes of might and magic
HoMaM 5&6 were made by the KB devs tho
6 was made by Black Hole
Paragons of strength and sorcery
Pupils 1 and 2, 3 kinda sucks
The PS2 heroes of might and magic is actually a remake of the OG Kings Bounty
Sword of Aragon, if you mean games similar to original King's Bounty (haven't played the Russian games so can't compare).
Ascension to the Throne is pretty much the original ye old 90s King's Bounty but ultra euro jank and each individual unit occupies their own tile. I had fun with it but the difficulty falls off a cliff once your MC becomes godlike and you don't need to relay on human wave tactics to survive anymore
Disciples, Heroes of Might and Magic
etherlords 2 is ok
These games are cool but to this day I still can't get very far in either of them. 2 hard 4 me.
King's Bounty 2
Eador Genesis, kinda.
Eador is far from not being shit. In fact, it's so shit it's actually endearing.
I have it but never played, what makes it shit?
Eisenwald is top comfy. The combat doesn't have the tactical depth of KB but the overworld is more fun to explore.
>tactical depth of KB
What's that? Finding one working tactics and repeat it until the end or boring death?
>tactical depth
Maybe I'm a brainlet but I beat the game by spamming the AoE oil spell and the dragon rage fire bomb.
eador genesis
bump
Legends of Eisenwald with expansions (fans generally coinsider Blood of November to be lackluster though). If you will like that, then other games by Aterdux.
Looks like shit, but is actually fun with unique mechanics? Age of Fear series. Play the free version, if you like it, get the total version. Devs are kind enough to release all the past games and FUTURE games in one package for like 50 bucks. That’s so much cheaper than what kings bounty does. Yeah the graphics suck. Graphics suck in king’s bounty too.
Game is unique and doesn’t use hexes or square. Plays essentially like a tabletop. Lots of units, progression, and entertaining enough campaigns with voice acting that is good enough. Campaigns are non-linear, and procedurally generated. Tactical combat is fun and entertaining, and simple enough to understand while being challenging at higher difficulties.
>Looks like shit
I really like the way it looks

I wish I could play all games with the 1280x1024 resolution, it's a really comfy resolution because it happens to be good for reading/coding once you're done gaming. A lot of modern games won't adapt to 1280x1024 properly, you end up having to play in 720p with letterboxing.
If only you could solve both of your problems with using the correct display
t. witnessing your cries on SyncMaster 740N right now
HoMM 1-3 if sober
Disciples 1-2 if drunk
This format is flawed and outdated. The first game was a puzzle, not an adventure game. You were supposed to plan really hard. The Russian games had adventuring and quests, but were repetitive because of the need to gather the troops all over the map ungodly number of times. Heroes and roguelites made this format obsolete.

Depends on the difficulty. For Impossible you need to know the game like the back of your hand, but for the default difficulty you could just go with the flow.
