Elden ring, did a whole playthough using great shields with the push skill, its extremely viable, as it negates damage but also does damage, allowing you the extremely unique ability to attack bosses while simultaneously blocking their attacks.

You have various shield bash skills, and a shield parry which deflects damage back, plus a particular shield that does more damage iirc and a particular set of gauntlets and a pair of particular rings that add damage and it ends up doing a ton
But you're gimped with only three skills and no ordinary or jumping attacks

Light and Heavy shields have different usage and all weapons act differently if placed in main hand or off hand, also if you hhave two of the same or complimentary type weapons you get a bonus special attack. So yeah, part of the apology for not having any shields in Odyssey was Valhalla's option to all shield all the time if you wanted.
