Any genuine Suikoden lore gurus out there?

Any genuine Suikoden lore gurus out there? I'm trying to smart up on ALL the lore/story-tying aspects of Suikoden III to to the first 2. Was hoping there might be a youtube video out there that deep-dives this, but can't find one. I don't have any specific questions in mind, just wanna know in general all the S1 & 2 ties in 3 and how/why they are tied together.

I learned quite a bit from simply reading 108 star character pages on suikosource. I learn something new every time I check.

Suikoden isn't all that complex and fleshed out. It's a handful of characters who make small mention of things that happen in past games. The games are all about character drama, not so much world building.

Yeah, who is he? He's just there until the third game gave him an arc that isn't complex at all. Like I said, they just make small mentions to past games while coming up new character dramas per game. I'm repeating myself.

...you do realize that it isn't the characters of the Suikoden games that are the main ties to the big picture, but it is the runes themselves that are, right? The bigger lore isn't around the people, except those who were cursed with them (and even those are only in the big picture for, respective to the rune story, a short amount of time). There are good characters and plot, for sure, but the real story is that of the runes and how they are manipulating/controlling/have effects on the entire world.

The characters are the focal point, the runes are mcguffins to move them along. The runes don't have intricate lore behind them. This series is decent enough without the exaggeration comparing it to Tolkien.

The runes are eternal. The players are not. You see how different people/societies/kingdom/nations deal with/handle the runes as times goes on. It may seem like border skirmishes or political warfare, but it's because of the runes. I'm not trying to downplay your point, anon, I definitely get where you're coming from. But when I started replaying the entire franchise, especially from the actual plot timeline, and started to focus moreso on the runes/true runes, I started to see more in this series. Even the Gaiden games became slightly more appealing. At the end of the day, it's all subjective and JMHO, but the story surrounding all the lore and legacy of the runes makes the Sui series.

Anyone remember that crazy chick who thought she was the real life reincarnation of some character from that game? Damn I wish I could remember her name.

3 isn't exactly finished, clearly the last third of the game after the original director left pretty much sent the story off rails. We never really know how the game actually would end. So trying to really connect the lore between it and the PS1 games is hard.

The second game isn't so grandly linked with the first either. Just small references. The Suikogaiden games barely add anything either. It's the same world, but it's not a very fleshed out world. The number one focus of the series are the characters, not the setting and its history.

Like the other anon said, the link that connected each games (or the first three at least) is the 27 true runes and the mystery behind them. Each game has a self contained story, but the overarching big thing in the background is the true runes and the country Harmonia that's clearly has a connection to the runes. Suikoden 3 finally addressed Harmonia directly, but because of the clearly unfinished narrative it never got properly paid off. And Suikoden 4 and 5 which basically are fanfics, just completely abandon the plot thread.

Suikoden 3 sucked and was steering the lore/plot into a "we don't need gods/runes" direction and I lost interest. How dull and boring to do what every other jrpg does.
