Reus is kinda fun, but very different in tone. It's more like a puzzle game, where you figure out the combos to unlock stuff.
The little mini-civs going to war with each other was always fun (though it sometimes screwed you out of some tech unlock achievements).
this, modern games could ape the basic idea of the game but they could never truly replicate something like this or any of the other great Bullfrog games.
Should I play the other Populous games or go straight to this one?
Whichever looks more interesting, each game is the same basic idea just each one has a different take on it with the older ones you are already basically a god leading people whereas in this one you are a shamaness trying to become a God. This one is the most interesting to me and the atmosphere/music is really soulful and unique.
Tragic, Bullfrog + Molyneux is a God team but apart they are nothing. Molyneux on his own is just a crazy little liar who promises the world and then delivers jack shit.
EA fricking over Bullfrog will always earn them my eternal hatred. So many great game series killed off with that one studio - Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Populous, etc all gone and all these kickstarter spiritual successors like Godus end up in complete disaster or at best you get something mediocre like Two Point Hospital which feels nothing like Theme Hospital really.
Pop3 was made after Molyneux left Bullfrog, and it arguably became the best game they ever created. And if I remember correctly, he had nothing to do with the development of Theme Hospital either.
He wasn't involved with Theme Hospital directly I think he just had some part to play in the idea of a 'Theme X' series but he had an important part to play in the business side of things and was said to be the one who knew how to deal with the EA executive suits which is usually seen as why Bullfrog was taken over by EA once he left.
Personally I would say Dungeon Keeper is the best Bullfrog game and Molyneux was the lead designer of that game.
yes and the whole story on it is fricking hilariouse. A great case of "what can go wrong will go wrong."
>Peter makes the cube game. >All you do is click on the cube to make the layers go away. >Peter says it does have to deal with Godus. >14 year old jock who doesn't give a shit about video games and bullied kids see the story on his feed and decides to play, glossing over just about everything that this cube game is tied in with another game. >Spends the afternoon clicking a box for hours on end, completely on a whim. >Jock wins the game. >The prize is that the winner gets to be the god in Goddus, cash prize and gets say in to the development. >As you can expect, the community and Peter are pissed a kid who has zero interest in video games just fricking won. >Ghosts the winner and pretends like it never happen.
Omg you just unlocked something for me. I had this game ages, AGES ago. And I totally forgot about it.
I just remember it as that ancient god sim. I played this before black and white
damn
>was a stupid kid that relied on cheats to complete the levels >always gave my shaman all the spells and infinite energy >then comes the world where your shaman is trapped and you must rescue her >no more cheats >got filtered for five years
I remember loading up all the cheats, using spells to build my people a massive plateau fortress, and sending my shaman out to cause hell by casting angels of death and such all over the enemy. Later I got good and could beat it without cheats, and one time I beat it never using my shaman unless I absolutely had to. Loved that game.
Reprisal Universe, maybe?
Ah no wait, you probably didn't mean Populous as a whole.
Loved that game, but the first time I played it the creature interactions bugged out on me,
locking me into some early level.
By the time I came back to it, the graphics already aged a lot in my eyes.
>download the anniversary edition of the campaign (og campaign but with enemy ai and difficulty tuned up) >rated 2/5 in difficulty >third map is already non-stop aggression from the ai which will frick your shit up if you don't keep it in check
I can only imagine the anal devastation the later levels will be
unironically no
Fricking hell...

Great list with titles such as Make Her Cum, a known Populous successor.

Install the Multiverse Launcher and check out some fan made campaigns.
Will do after I replay the original campaign. Apparently some people can't run it on W10 but I had no issues.
Should I play the other Populous games or go straight to this one?
Pop 1 and 2 are completely different games and they practically have no story, you can safely skip them.
SOUL
lol

Wasn't this the game that had the "click the cube" marketing campaign?

They didn't even give the kid the money.

The game is amazing.
Universim kinda
>From Dust was supposed to be a Populous-like godgame
>it's actually a god-themed physics puzzle game
>mfw
It was Populous-esque though.
Only in style/setting, not in gameplay.
Populouslite
never played it, is it kinda like black and white 2?
Some spells are similar, you can summon a volcano, do some terramorphing, etc. You control your shaman and the rest of the units directly.
It plays more like a traditional RTS.

literally me. cheat shaman is the most fun RTS unit ever created.
I remember loading up all the cheats, using spells to build my people a massive plateau fortress, and sending my shaman out to cause hell by casting angels of death and such all over the enemy. >>no more cheats
>>got filtered for five years
thanks anon
I remember playing it on PSX like 25 years ago
...
what are I am doing with my life...
WorldBox
Black & White would be the obvious answer, though zoomies don't consider that modern anymore.
I played it of course. Didn't get far in B&W 2 though, maybe I should try it again.
That came out when I was in middle school and I’m a boomer millenial closer to 40 than I am to 30 so yeah.

Reminder that this game still has unoficcial support to this day

Worldbox sim is pretty fun. It's more of a sandbox but that's also why I like it.
Anyone play the DS version of populus?
should i go with the multiverse launcher or withe the enhanced edition?
multiverse
Server when?
From Dust is the closest thing to it.
My disappointment with this game is unmeasurable. Everything about it screamed populous successor and it turned out to be a puzzle game
Funny enough, I love that game. I much prefered the god/nature stuff in populous than managing a tribe.

You haven't seen anything yet, anon
