They've limited your options in online games to the point where it's basically just a single player game that happens to be populated with a bunch of Reddit tier other players. Being an butthole was a huge part of the joy of early online play in these games.

I didn't mean to imply that Diablo itself was new, buddy.
There's no demand for it anymore, because the people who enjoy that sort of thing are all playing Ark, DayZ, and the like. PvP draws a lot of genuine buttholes, and those people are drawn to games that give opportunities for true griefing. So games that just have occasional PK for fun or lulz just don't have a lot of people interested.
V Rising is an aRPG influenced by the DayZ derived survival stuff, and my understanding is there's a lot of noncon peekay and camping in the game, and you can frick up people's raids and so forth. But the system requirements are absurdly high and I haven't had a chance to try it.

I took the last month or so off of playing for a tolerance break, but I was a lot more entrenched in the endgame this last than I'd been since the remaster came out. Was hoping they'd do a bit more with the terror zones this ladder but it looks like they've only made some minor adjustments. Also there doesn't seem to be a presence for D2 on the boards right now other than this thread

How do I do a proper skelemancer? I'm level 16 right now and most of my points are in raise skeleton and teeth, with points also in clay golem, skeleton mastery, and the curse that makes enemies take more non magic damage.
stick all your points into skele mastery and summon. don't bother with skele mages they're dogshit
specialize in either clay or fire golem then 1 point wonder all the curses and focus on finding +all skills gear
Get 1 point in amp damage and decrepify and clay golem and summon resist. Max raise skeleton first, then skeleton mastery, then corpse explosion. Dump the rest of your points into dim vision and reanimate. Get act 2 mercenary with might aura (requires nightmare difficulty). Late game your summons just exist to be a meat shield, corpse explosion will mulch all groups of enemies. Decrep is for bosses. Can situationally switch to act 1 or act 3 mercenaries in cramped areas like maggot lair and arcane sanctuary. Do shop for a teleport staff.
My advice is supreme.

it's a staff that has like 30 to 40 teleport charges and you keep it on your weapon swap (press w)
Each charge is like 5k gold to repair it, but it's not something you use to spam teleport, you just use it for tight spots

Traps are very powerful and very easy. They also are the only real reason to dual-wield. You get two different summons, one of which you can select their skill because it copies yours. You also get burst of speed which only needs a few points in it and/or fade which is also bullshit and can also enable a paladin-style damage-reduction build.

What's the point of playing D2R when they barely added any improvements or QoL changes to it. Everything about it feels severely dated. Just stick to Diablo 3 or wait for 4

I'm replaying D3, I just played it on release. A lot of stuff has changed, they removed the auction house (I think they should've fixed it instead of removing it completely) and the game is much easier now, it was impossible on the harder difficult in the original game unless you grinded like crazy.
I'm thinking about buying that package that comes with D3 expansions and D2R. I've played D2 a few times but I've never took it seriously, to the point of learning the formulas and advanced systems. I want to it now. Even though I prefer D2 I like D3 very much too, but this limited time season stuff feels very wrong and is a very cheap way to try to bring new players to replay the game.
Anything that's limited by time is wrong and a cheap, psychological trick to engage people.
Ladder is just Ladder, all ladder rune words and items are available to drop on a ladder character. God it would be awful if rune words rotated depending on the season.
Yeah, it makes sense to play on the ladder only, specially because you can keep the character if you want to. It's also a nice excuse to replay the game.
In D3, from what I'm reading, there are exclusive skins and cosmetics tied to each season. This is so annoying. They do it to force the players to come back each season, but D2R is not doing that and people keep playing it.
They should focus in making a good game instead of that.
I'm missing the auction house though, its problem was more tied to the end ultra high difficult in the original release and, if I remember correctly, that you could buy gold from Blizzard, so everything was ultra inflated or really hard to come by.
I'd like to pay for a few gems here and there, or buy some stuff for a new character without having to store equipment for certain levels.
I mean, how can I take the difficult 16 without grind for slotted equipment for each 10 levels? The auction would've been great for that. I don't know the new mechanics though, since I'm replaying every character to the level 60 before buying the expansion, since I didn't play all of them because of the end game bullshit that the game used to be.

I'm level 37 necromancer and my skellies and I are getting our shit pushed in by Baal and doing very little damage. What am I doing wrong bros? Pls no bully.
necro is a meme class that is not viable past a3 normal
Necro's biggest weakness is bosses.
But if you use your clay golem + decrepify, the slowness from both stack so you can make bosses move at like 2 or 3 frames a second, and you can wail on them.
It also, further stacks with Holy Freeze, so if you get the A2 merc with it, you can basically freeze bosses outright eventually.

Yeah I use low level amplify damage and decrepify constantly.
To add on to why this is such a big deal on baal, what happens when he's slowed enough is that he cannot finish casting anything before attempting to execute another action. Yes, that's right. Clay golem slow + decrep alone is enough to force baal into an infinite loop of LITERALLY doing nothing. It may take 10 years, but your skeletons + merc will eventually win because baal can't fight back. This is why baal is actually the easiest boss for a summoner. It may feel like it sucks because it takes ten years to win, but you factually cannot lose with clay golem + decrep.
I know this doesn't help you now, but eventually when you get revive you can shred bosses with urdars. They have crushing blow on their attacks, which does % based damage. Res a handful of them for boss fights and it speeds things up by a ton.
In my day we just cheesed that motherfricker by hiding around a corner and poking him over and over again.

I'm all for non meta builds, but at the end of the day the classes that feel best to come back to to endlessly grind, which is what this game is, are the two most powerful classes. That factors into the class rankings, it is what it is. Druid is obviously doo doo (unless you're a based aldur's chad), and lightning fury is cooler than anything assassin does (mosaic knot with sanding, haven't tried it), so zon goes above sin. Necro and barb are interchangeable, but the necro earns his spot due to curses being cool for being actually incredibly strong status effects that work on bosses, the summoner being the best horde style minion based class in any game ever, and corpse explosion being based. And barb? Well barb is peak soul and that's all there is to it.
I haven't even played druid. What's he like?
I finished a campaign in 2 last week and immediately switched to 3 and while it's clearly and undeniably an inferior game in every meaningful way, it sure does have a lot of qol upgrades. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about 4 tbh.

Honestly druid is fine now, it has received a fair bit of buffs in d2r. It was undeniably the worst class for so long that it's tradition to shit on it. That said, i still feel like all of druid's builds have an analogue from another class that's either straight up more powerful or just faster than the druid's version. Actually now that you mention it druid just got a spicy new runeword and I'm not sure how people are liking it.

Man I don't know how you do it. After getting burned by d3 I completely understand d2 is never getting the sequel it deserves. And whatever, that's cool. D2 isn't going any where. Diablo 3 isn't even an awful game if you judge it on it's own with no relation to d2. But for some reason I just can't give d4 the benefit of the doubt. Druid is alright, lots of variety and almost every spec is very tanky..If you never played one there's probably at least 1 spec that you'd enjoy..They've been upgraded as a whole quite a bit from classic D2 to D2R

I just found out about a very poweful skill. It is called "Blessed Hammer". You basically cram all your points into that and the attack becomes very strong.

Idk anon, seems kinda weak. The do magic damage, which is good, but just like bone necro the total damage just isn't very high. I mean, it's not like there are any auras that boost its damage. That'd just be silly.
For me, it's the dual dream dragon/hoj version of auradin. The most godlike I've ever felt, just existing kills everything. Even if grief is better I like going all in on the auras more.

Breath of the Dying runeword in an Eth war pike, Fortitude chest runeword, Arreats Face helmet.
You can pretty much steamroll the game while naked as long as you're wearing those 3 pieces

On my second day of playing this current ladder this weekend I was dicking around in players 8 hell cows leeching some xp and the group was split up and I was following a hammerdin around because he was clearing pretty fast, off a random small group of like 5 cows a rune dropped and I read it as Nef but half a second later I opened my eyes and it actually said Ber - of course I didn't get it and even though it was an 8 player game me and that paladin are the only ones who knew about it. Only Ber I'd ever seen drop on d2r, it stung for a few days but I've mostly gotten over it, though every time I see a Nef drop the pain comes back

the endgame of d2 doesn't have much longevity and if you keep playing you'll eventually reach a point where the gear upgrades are very negligible and if you want to start a new character you'll already have a full gearset waiting for it on mules
Half the fun of playing this game is building up a new characters gear and a new ladder is a guaranteed fresh start of being able to start from scratch (if you aren't using 3rd party sites to buy gear at least)
