Its fun at the beginning but gets boring really fast once you realize the game is mostly trying to figure out where to go in a shitty Minecraft map. I give it a 4/10. Wish I could get a refund.
I kind of like it but I wish it didn't feel like I was basically cheating any time I actually found a way to progress. Sometimes it's obvious and just tricky, sometimes it just seems like I wasn't even meant to do that. I know the game's pretty sequence-break friendly and all but man does it being so open kind of hurt it sometimes.
Also it's a JRPG with precisely zero plot and its gameplay just doesn't QUITE carry it hard enough for me to overlook that.
it has more in common with ff11 then ff5, which is why the red mage clone is called the 'warlock' after the artifact gearset in that game and why the black mage clone can use scythes
with better art and more stylized setting this would be my #1 all time jrpg. As is, still makes top 10 easily. Still need to cheevo hunt minus the impossible one.
for most bosses, those status effects stay useful. They become easier and easier to apply. like poison/bleed will just be a single attack from one of your melee's, and not even a specialized skill.
I still don't know why Air-Strip Angel is on there though, it's a very early techdemo of some titty game I have never ever heard about, did I miss it being spammed on here or something?
If you're looking for a sandbox JRPG with turn based combat and platforming, then Cassette Beasts is really similar to Crystal Project, though much smaller in scope. The soundtrack is also really good, but you'd expect as much when the main theme of the game is a media format for music.
If you like the combat system it's very similar to bravely default where you get main class and sub-class and the passives can be used across all comps and the aim is just to make very strong team compositions, but BD barely has any exploration and is quite easy. The music is great though, and the chibis are very frickable.
Octopath is a similar story to BD but the builds are even less indepth and it's also too easy. Octopath has more exploration (and 2 has more exploration than 1) but it's really locked down exploration in comparison to Crystal Project.
Dragon Quest 6 feels like a very retro version of CP with the exploration and the world opening up but it's pretty basic because of how old it is.
Yes

>brehs the platforming is the best part in this JRPG game 😛
>crystal
>ff sprites
can they at least be more original?
The worst part was using RPG Maker designs, not even trying.
The game is unashamed of the fact that it's open world FFV

It's more of a copy of XIV considering it's a lot newer
fricking andrew

Does the meta ever change from "just apply poison+bleed+burn every turn"?

Yeah I got a passive from Reaper to always apply bleed
Exploration and secret kino
Saw that your game will be on Switch. Congrats Andrew!

Not OP, but I tried Cassette Beasts and it was really fricking dull. I don't know why anyone likes that trash.

Not really, which is a shame.

The easiest way to refute contrarians is to just ask them what they consider good.
>contrarians
Contrarians are the ones saying that FF7 or Chrono Trigger is bad. This is a mostly unknown indie game
>LGBT game
Pass.
