dont all retro dungeon crawlers do this?

      Anonymous

I don't know? I mean, I'm sure Shining in the Darkness doesn't. But I don't know many retro dungeon crawlers (blobbers, not Diablo or Nethack kind of dungeon crawlers).

      >blobber
stay in /vr/ you crossboarding parasite.

But I used to only browse Ganker

      Persona 1&2

      Thanks

Like all of them? Go play Ultima.

I thought Ultima was always isometric and Wizardry always first person with grid based movement and etc.

The first 3 Ultima games had first person views in dungeons

The first 5 do. Dungeons are arguably the shittiest part of 4.

What do you want me to call that shit? First person dungeon crawlers with grid based movement? Because that sucks just as much as saying blobbers

        "3D Dungeon Game."

If I wrote "3D Dungeon Game", I'm sure most people wouldnt know I'm specifically talking about blobbers. But I just realised maybe "DRPGs" is a better term.

it's impressive how ignorant westoids can be about vidya they claim to have interest in
stop parroting eceleb slop for one fricking second and do real research

Real research says blobbers or drpgs? Also what ecelebs talks about these genres anyway?
Why are weebs so sensitive? I mean its just how you call a nearly dead vidya genre. If you got the idea, its all that matters

            >Real research says blobbers or drpgs?
Those kinds of buzzwords like blobber is how you know you aren't doing research, you're coming across westoid slop.
Lurk more if you can't tell the difference.
            >If I wrote "3D Dungeon Game", I'm sure most people wouldnt know I'm specifically talking about blobbers.
Anyone worth talking to would, the only ones confused would be fricking morons that get all their info from ecelebs, like you.
            >But I just realised maybe "DRPGs" is a better term.
Middle ground but still not enough, all you will do is attract the EOgays.

I miss the good old days of making your own maps in graph paper or a notebook.
But I wouldn't go back to them, living without automap now feels like going back to being a caveman.

I generally enjoy mapping when the game doesn't have automap and I'm pretty sure I started with automap, it really adds to the exploration feel.

Except there is a few different types of this first person dungeon genre. Japs probably have no idea about that since the only thing they know is simplified clones of wizardry.

Phantasy Star, why Sega just abandoned it forever I have no idea since Online was never a replacement for it, it would be easy cash to just get a bunch of people to make one and market it like Square does with their HD-2D games

IIRC someone mentioned that Phantasy Star V never happened because the story timeline was properly concluded akin to the MOTHER series by Itoi.
It's why Phantasy Star Online is a essential reboot a of the series, for better or worse.

        >It's why Phantasy Star Online is a essential reboot a of the series, for better or worse.
It's not a reboot. The designers of PSO were told to use a existing Sega IP name that was dormant to capitalize on older fans when they were making the game. The PS connections are only in names nothing else.

is "blobber" a new term, or an old term that came back in vogue? because ive only ever known them as dungeon crawlers, but that term also got loosely thrown around in later years.

blobber is a relatively recent term that an eceleb brought back and made everyone spam it like morons

Genesis: D & D, Warriors of the Eternal Sun

One of my favorite RPG's of all time. Couldn't nail the D&D vibe anymore for a 16 bit game.

This looks pretty cool. Is it any good?

        Anonymous

Yeah. It's a no bullshit game, little dialogue style RPG. Just a few simple systems and an objective. It opens with the kingdom getting transported into the valley one night, you make your party, and the king sends you to figure what the frick is going on. You can theoretically make 4 Elf clerics and beat the game if you want, although that would be horrible and tedious grinding them to get strong enough. Kind of like the first Final Fantasy where certain party sets work great but you can brute force anything, but without allt he dialogue.

It's my favorite 16bit RPG. Not just from nostalgia, it's functionally the most replayable game as its systems>story.

Neat, I'll check it out. I assume because it's on Genesis it's not a pain in the ass to play with a controller?
And is it turn-based or real-time? Asking because the HUD reminds me Eye of the Beholder.

The game pulled the greatest trick for me back then. Play half the game with one overworld and a bunch of dungeons, and then when you get the fire defense gauntlets you go through the huge fire cave and end up in a whole new overworld. A lot smaller and purpose built, a swamp area you had to go kill lizardmen. But it blew my mind. It might be as close as you can come to the Skyrim exiting the dungeon moment on a 16 bit cartridge.
