Any suggestions on JRPGs/SRPGs to waste my time on

Lost my Valkyria Chronicles save data a while back on steam for some bullshit reason so now I am whittling my way back to the same spot I was in. In the mean time do you guys have any suggestions on good JRPGs/SRPGs that are fun and singleplayer

Here's a random favorite. Try FF 13-2. It has a fine story and graphics, and you recruit monsters for your 3rd party member. Very fun and lots of endgame bosses.
Otherwise my stamp of approval goes to: FFX, FF12, Fire Emblem series, DQ 11 was fun

People will hate you for your post, but I respect you. 13-2 was the weakest in the trilogy despite the somewhat salvaged combat system, but I salute you regardless

        I'm sorry what?
You think that FF 13-2 is worse than FF13 and lightning returns? That is a very hot take

Storywise yes, I couldn't give two craps about the newly introduced characters and timeline plots are in 95% cases dumb af, and while FF13 being a hallway simulator, the hallways are more pleasant visually

I can't follow any of the stories in that trilogy. I started with X and skipped 12. So 13 was a huge letdown when you beat the game, kill 3 adamntite and you have max gear with no endgame.
13-2 had tons of activities and extra bosses. That's why I like it. The combat felt good when you had an endgame to work towards imo.

its crazy how different peoples opinions are. i thought 13-2 was the only good game in the trilogy

All of Matsuno's games are basically kino cheat codes, and all of them have pretty respectable depth and massive endgame timesinks. And they are fun .
I personally prefer Vagrant Story of all of them, but Tactics Ogre recently got a refresh if you are looking for something to decorate your Steam account.

Amazing taste, I wish you were my friends.

Sakura Wars! It's made by the same dev team that made Valkyria Chronicles! Sakura Wars 5 in particular has a very similar battle system and setpiece level design to VC.

Sakura Wars also has more engaging visual novel gameplay than the average VN which you consume passively, as SW has timed dialogue choices. If the timer runs out, the player character remains silent, and the person they are conversing with will react as such. Sometimes, if you remain silent for long enough, they will think you're giving them the silent treatment and get mad at you. Sometimes remaining silent is the right answer. Depends on the character you are talking to and the situation. These dialogue options can be spontaneous and affect gameplay a little bit. One timed dialogue that pops up during a battle forces you to recall the color a ribbon a girl was wearing earlier in the morning; failure to do so makes her demoralized and lowers her stats during the battle.

I found the characters of Sakura Wars 1 to be more likeable, but Sakura Wars 5 had really good levels. Play them both!
