People liked how most of the past ones had design differences from their original mon (amoonguss moss/legs/tail, salamence mega wings, jigglypuff hair, magneton legs and hair), whereas the future ones outside of galladevoir were "base pokemon but mechanical instead"

Gen 1: Red/Fire Red obviously, because of CHARIZAAARD from KANTOOOOO.
Gen 2: Silver/Soul Silver, given how Lugia was advertised in 2000. I like Ho-Oh more though and most of the sprites in Gold are better than the Silver sprites. Crystal is better than both though.
Gen 4: Diamond/Brilliant Diamond (Dialga looks unnatural and nothing like a Pokemon, but at least it's better than a phallic dragon, Diamond also has the better version exclusives). Platinum is better than both though.
Gen 5: White/White 2 (White has far more version exclusives than Black by virtue of having White forest)
Gen 6: not sure, but I want to say Y because Yveltal is more masculine
Gen 7: Moon/Ultra Moon I like Solgaleo more, but I noticed a lot of people online consider Lunala to be the superior design
Gen 8: Sword, Zacian is hilariously more broken than Zamazenta
I preordered Scarlet even though I prefer Miraidon because I don't like how all the Future forms are called "Iron something" and prefer the Legendary Beasts to the Musketeer quartet (though the Musketeers are my favorite Gen 5 legendaries).

I literally just always get the "Blue-colored" or "Blue-Adjacent Legendary" games with zero other consideration for what is included. Started as a coincidence, then just became tradition. Some games I had to be creative with my justification if it was not remotely blue.
I think Scarlet has the better paradoxes and professor, but I would absolutely much rather ride Miraidon. Just going to trade for the exclusives and deal with chad-dad.

Miraidon is the better looking mount all around and the better of the two Legendaries designwise in my opinion, Ceruledge looks better than Armarouge and the future paradoxes look more usable in general. I'm sticking to my guns here.

The overwhelming Majority of people pre-ordering is not going to change or care for leaks and the leaks may as well encourage more poeple to go Violet as well, Violet is by far the more popular choice on every front and it hasn't changed since pre-orders started. And I'm not even getting Violet, Koraidon is way sexier.

The actual mechas don't look nearly that good. I really wanted to like the mecha T-tar and mecha Hydreigon, but they're nothing special. Meanwhile scarletchads get a 10/10 Salamence and Jigglybunga.

I like Violet for purple better but I prefer the ancient past theming more. Also Violet has pokemon I like, but Scarlet has new versions of them. Tough choice.
I prefer fantasy to sci-fi and don't care for mecha in general, but Violet takes this easy for me. The Violet paradox mons seem much cooler, especially Iron Moth. And I hate that they made the box legends into fart cushions, but I hate even more that they didn't commit to the bit with Koraidon and now we just a cool lizard thing with a giant throat tumor.
