Bullshit. Persona 2's story is fantastic, the story in 3 is really good as well, and five is not amazing but still pretty good. 4 is the only game that has a very interesting concept that just gets trashed entirely because of the characters and the writing. Also, there's not that much humour in either 3 or 5, just the ocasional joke in the dialogue like any normal thing ever, but not like in 4 where they push it to a point of self parody; just compare the way characters get in contact with the other world in 1, 2, 3, and 5, with the way it happens in 4: they force that stupid gag about Yosuke wanting to go to the bathroom, and then he and Chie panic (maybe?) and run in circles until they fall into the tv in the most nonsensical way imaginable, and that sets the tone for the entire story.
Pretty much, and it's kind of annoying, but hey, what are you gonna do? People bust their loads on low quality pandering bullshit like monkeys, and that won't change.

4 is great but it (accidentally or otherwise) conditioned people into thinking your party all worships the ground you stand on.
It also introduced "Character development happens outside of main story" shit. If you don't do social links with characters the way they change and act by the end feels weird.
You might not have liked anyone from the SEES but at least you directly saw what caused them to grow/change, in 4 if you don't hang out with them you don't get that.
The fact that the game never reflects on character growth (or your relationships for that matter) on most situations is a gripe I have with this design. I'd really like for them to improve on this on future entries, but it probably won't happen.
