It's amazing how fast these came out despite only kids playing games, the tech being new, and the Internet not being out yet allowing for source codes to be looked up
Not really. Even before the NES video games have been popular in some form or another. Be it arcades or consoles like Atari. Cheating is fun. It was only a matter of time until someone took advantage of the market.
I avoid using the DSi AR as much as possible. It seems very cheaply and poorly made with legit worrisome issues. >drains the battery.
I'm talking full to needing to be charged within 30 minutes. >causes the system to heat up a noticeable amount
I would not call it hot, but if the back of the system and both the game cart and AR are getting warm to the touch, it can't be good for the old hardware. Even more so since I rarely play the various models of DS anymore. >when plugged in to the PC to update, the cart heats up alot.
Even if it's only a few minutes or so, just enough time to add a code. It gets warm enough for me to worry about it melting/catching fire if I left it plugged in to the PC for a while.
Gameshark, Action Replay, Codebreaker, and every other code device company went out of business thanks to 7th gen, mostly sony for getting tougher on 3rd party devices since they mess with achievements(not sure if Microsoft also contributed). Another blow was people finding it better to mod your console and handheld since modding was crazy easy and the cheat programs they used were a thousand times better than those cheat devices.
Their were some of those cheat devices in early 7th gen but they were really crappy compared to what you could do on modded consoles and handhelds and were the last you'd ever see of those devices.
I use to work my ass off getting Pokemon from emerald to SoulSilver to complete my Pokedex and I used the AR once and it completely took away the feeling of hard work and I literally lost interest in completing my trainer card
When I was little I didn't understand how action replays worked, so I'd literally just enter like "give celebi" as the code and get pissed off when it didn't work.
smartphones like now did not really exist back then so kids couldnt have cheat codes on them all the time unless they had a computer and wrote them down on a piece of paper
During the school book fair we'd look through the cheat code books and write down codes for the games we had.
Eventually they started wrapping them in plastic.
>Got one of these >Opened up the pokemon diamond/pearl trading thing >People would list things that were impossible to get like a level 5 Charizard, or a level 2 legendary >Turned on forced encounters with action replay >Would make those "impossible" trades actually possible >Would also put up stuff that was insanely hard to acquire for a level 10 bidoof
>be kid >go to a store >see cheat devices >hated the thought of people cheating in games >took all of them from the shelf and hid them randomly throughout the store
When I was a kid me and the other kids would play Mario Kart DS on the bus to school together and I would use cheats so we could play beta tracks that weren't in the full game and I would have infinite bullet bills and endless lightening clouds
step aside zoomer
Nobody ever used that, quit larping.
I'm a zillenial and I remember that you either used action replay or game genie.
>zillenial
no such thing, you are a zoomer in denial kek
>I'm a zillenial
You are a fricking moronic newbie
GameSharks are Action Replays you dumb b***h.
Step aside zoomer
Move slightly to the side millenial

>"not really"
>proceeds to half-refute one of three claims
I remember the bigger N64 magazines having whole sections for Gameshark/AR codes, wonder if it was an exclusivity thing.
I slightly modified a current code for a game I was playing at the time and ended up using a boss character lmao. good times.
One time this shit flew out of my DSi like halfway across the room. It wouldn’t work after that.
I remember being a kid thinking how unprofessional the company was after seeing the amount of misspelled words in their manual

where is this for switch?
Nintendo will brick your switch so it's not worth the risk
Just hack your switch and download save editing software

>those bootleg Nintendo homies
I remember using this on my Pokemon games to access all of the super secret event mons before their events were announced. Good times
I use to work my ass off getting Pokemon from emerald to SoulSilver to complete my Pokedex and I used the AR once and it completely took away the feeling of hard work and I literally lost interest in completing my trainer card
Yeah I did something similar in platinum and immediately regretted it. Cheating makes everything feel so empty.
this
or turning on wallhacks and finding the mystery zone
>needing wallhacks
Buddy, you need to learn how to bike tweak and walk 2000 steps like a real man

You aren't white.
i thought that the Game Genie for NES let you type in a game name and then play it
of course I was like, 5
I used my friend's gameshark for a bit as a kid and I thought it would unlock new secret caves and content in pokemon.
it made making competitive pokemons much easier
Not really a competition if everyone is cheating
eh i wasnt skilled enough for the official thing. but i did beat a team of ubers 7 times out of ten since they were dumber than me
Nope, I had a R4.
I have one of these. I bought it back in the day because I really wanted to get Mew in emerald.
Now they go for over $100.
does anyone still have their old cheat code books
thats all i would buy at my book fairs
It's weird to think you could get away with selling a website in book form up until ~2009.
smartphones like now did not really exist back then so kids couldnt have cheat codes on them all the time unless they had a computer and wrote them down on a piece of paper
I used to go to the library and print out cheat codes for 10 cents a page.
I used to take my ds to Walmart and just read the book there and try to accomplish as much as possible before I had to leave
During the school book fair we'd look through the cheat code books and write down codes for the games we had.

I remember when serebii had on their website that you could find a larvitar in emerald
Fricking Millennials and Zoomers.

I didn't have a GB cheat device
But I did have this thing
yes
pretty sure i only used it for pokemon
>be kid
>go to a store
>see cheat devices
>hated the thought of people cheating in games
>took all of them from the shelf and hid them randomly throughout the store
My buddy used it to have Pokemon with 999 HP in Diamond, but never used myself
I remember seeing commercials for this thing on tv. Still couldn't beat Battletoads with it though.
This bricked my mario kart ds cartridge.
Why the hell didn't you just format the savedata using homebrew? The ARDSi can load homebrew off the SD card.
Oh yeah, I got that for my birthday long long ago. Such a fun time using it.
