If people ar dying to mechanics and raid wides, including the healers themselves, then yes you should be putting up shields.
If people are dying to raidwides, the healers are not using their damage-neutral healing kits. They should use those first before using their shitty GCD shields.
If people are dying to mechanics they probably would have died with a shield too. The most effective heal you can use on those morons is Rescue.
Some of the squishier jobs (casters) will absolutely die to back to back raidwides on some fight if not at full health or shielded when the first raidwide goes out. You're right people aren't using their dps neutral kit but I think the point was more "dude press any button that isn't dosis once in awhile."
Combat that is actually fun, interesting, and allows for some degrees of freedom would be nice. "1-2-3 repeat" is boring as shit.

What's the reason? Modeling new characters can't be too expensive the game has hundreds of them. The VAs can be cast to other roles if they need to keep them or something. We should be bringing like one scion along for the ride, I'm irritated that they keep them along when most of their story arcs are done. Y'shtola is probably the only one we should be bringing because she's got unfinished business on the First and is pretty much the game's iconic character since she's the default for all the Dissidia and Theatrhythm games.
I'm not sure. Usually the story alone is enough to get me hyped. But this time it's a guess. I wish they'd do more work on end content in the new areas (more detailed areas with more to do) and more dungeon/raid content for intermediate gamers (as it stands it's either too casual or too hardcore)

I tried it in Shadowlands, put probably 200 hours into it and can only describe it as one of the worst mistakes I have ever made. I have never played a game so ardent about suppressing every single possible bit of organic joy or pleasure in exchange for metrics-guided Factory Fun(tm) and carefully regulated dopamine hits. It's a game I can only imagine being loveable by someone who's an absolutely soul-shattered shell of a man.

I am. I'm playing WoTLK classic - don't have time for retail on top and it doesn't interest me, but that's in a drought now too and I've kind of done just about everything I wanted to do including getting Shadowmourne. No LK heroic kill yet but should be coming in a week or two.
XIV players probably shouldn't play WoW because they'll see what it's like to play an MMO with actually good netcode and see what it should feel like to weave themselves between shit on the floor while hitting their buttons that actually go off when they are pressed instead of feeling like you're mashing out laggy shit.

But what worries me about XIV is how unsustainable its expansion model is, you can't keep adding new classes every 2 years without homogenizing them or having them step on each other's toes (which has already happened), and the MSQ will eventually reach a level of bloat where new players won't even attempt trying to get through it before they get bored.

That's why they're going qith anime arcs. We just finished arc 1 so new players can start with arc 2 going forward and revisit 1 if and when they feel inclined to do so.

I think they know they're pushing the limit in terms of story length and the loss in terms of skip sales is worth it.
The writing for 6.1 and beyond even seems like they are angling for that. They have you go on a short mostly self contained adventure, using it as an excuse to reintroduce the Scions one at a time, while giving you vague overviews of general concepts of the world, and the plot of previous expansions without going into too much detail.
I would not be surprised if they eventually make 6.1 a new starting point.
I subbed for a month for season of discovery, got to about 15 and then I saw carry advertisements and gearscore checks for BFD. Blackfathom depths. Blackfathom. Fricking. Depths. Logged off firmly reminded why I quit in the first place.

I really like nu-SMN. It's the perfect job for roulettes: you can do the rotation while half asleep and there are plenty of tools to help hedge against moronic healers.

Does a new job really matter at this point? They are all functionally the same even meta gays want their damage output within 1%~ of each other with the same rotations per tank/dps/healer with the only thing being new are the animations
At this point not really since every job is so homogenized that people can already assume what the entire kit is for them before we even get shown any real information. The hype of a new job always gets casuals excited though even if it ends up boring as shit and they don't play it, so it helps with marketing.

I play both. Xiv failed to capitalize on the opportunity it had with shadowlands being cancer and just followed the same stagnating formula so wow is becoming king again. Xiv is pretty reliable it doesn’t have lows but doesn’t really hit highs either. Wow just has so much more range and possibility so that when it’s good it’s much better

There. That's the entire keynote. It is the exact stuff they have done every single time. There is no room for big surprises or stuff to actually get hype for in this game. It's like hoping they serve Burgers when you go to a salad bar hoping that, for some reason, it'll be different this time around.
I will say there is a higher chance this time around they do /something/ unique to try and drum up some hype. My prediction for any left-field surprise would be them showing off the Dawntrail benchmark trailer at the end which would give us a glimpse at a few new abilities and job armours. The benchmarks have historically released ~4 months before the expansions come out, so it would be a stretch but still a possibility for them to show it at JP fanfest. More likely though it'll be shown in a liveletter sometime in March.
Really though, it's hard to be super excited for Dawntrail because it's just all the same shit except with no actual story content to be invested and hyped for like previous expansions had. Feelsbad man
Well if Yoshida can be believed (he cannot) this is going to be the content expansion. The group expansion. Its supposed to have V&C, deep dungeon or changes to deep dungeons, a foray of some kind, some kind of new combat content, another lifestyle content which has group play and all the other QoL plus graphics changes. If they were smart they would bundle XI with XIV soon to drum up hype for the raid series.

The game is old and successful enough that they should start taking risks with the formula and the content. I know they're real butt-bothered about Diadem being a frickup 4 times and of course they'll never dream about 1.0 without breaking into a cold sweat in the middle of the night, but we've been doing the same shit for 10 years DT is the opportunity to shake every aspect of the game up. Again though, seeing the Scions means they're playing it safe with the story and doesn't inspire faith that they're not going to play it safe in other parts of the game.

Yeah I quit WoW after MoP to play ff14 pretty much full time, and then after like 9 years I just went back. Hopefully in a few more expansions theyll shift they way they Content/Classes.
WoW is unironically my favorite game of all time so I’ll always have that to go back to. I’ve never been a hardcore player, I just like making cool characters and go on adventures so it legitimately never feels old.
XIV kind of felt like that also during late Heavensward to early Stormblood, but it’s just grown too samey for me.

You are kind of locked out of a ton of things by not having a housing plot beyond just superior decorating. You basically cant bring a RP or ERP partner back to an apartment. Many raid statics now require each member to have a plot to prove dedication to the game.

We probably aren't getting another melee DPS in the game's lifespan. We just got one and are getting one in DT. Next expansion will probably be physical ranged and tank or maybe tank and healer to just get those out of the way. Then they will probably switch to one job per expansion and 9.0 will just be one of those three.
As of DT there will be 6 melee DPS and 7 ranged/magic DPS so I could see them add another melee.
Kind of feels like they’ve painted themselves into a corner with the whole “Expansion = New Jobs” pipeline.
If I were in charge I'd do a tank/healer in 8.0 and say thats the last of those, and maybe just a physical ranged in 9.0 and say its the last job.

7.0: Green mage is a tribal shamanistic DoT based job since they took it from everyone else.
8.0: Garlemald is restored lore wise, and we get a dual Gunshield tank and some kind of officer or commander themed healer.
9.0: Its kind of difficult to think up one more physical ranged since we missed the opportunity for Corsair. Maybe just a regular old Ranger and they revamp Bard to be way more music focused.

I've been playing since shadowbringers and this game is difficult to recommend to people becuase it's designed to listen to characters talk, which I HATE. I just want to slash and hit and kill things without any questions, but this stupid game expects me to pay attention for more than 10 seconds to read the dialoque.
They made it even worse by forcing you to follow the main characters. It's complete bullshit how this game that heavily revolved around its story FORCES me to listen to it. CONTENT IS LOCKED BEHIND A 600 HOUR MSQ. There's absolutely no reason why I can't just fight Zodiark extreme right when I start the game. I can't even play a story-based MMO without having to watch its story. Frick this game. I'm going back to Mario Bros.

When referring to the game you need to specify by saying MSQ, Raids, Ultimates, e.t.c. Saying an expansion is good or bad I really don't know what you're talking about because to me EW story was great the raids too I really enjoyed Pand.

It's the opposite, they should change SCH so Energy Drain gives you the stacks which you use for healing. It would fix the stupid "You can only use Aetherflow in combat" bullshit they added in ShB too.
SCH would be screwed during any untargetable phase since you wouldn't be able to gain any Aetherflow.
Maybe. I'm surprised if it turned out to be a huge problem though, but I suppose it would make SCH less popular. I guess you could still have a downtime Aetherflow button for that.
Wait, why the frick would it be a problem when at the moment scholars only want to use Aetherflow for Energy Drains. They wouldn't even know where to put all that fricking healing if they had all their charges dedicated for it, even if you'd gain a little bit less because of a badly timed downtime.
The thing people would whine about (again) is that they want old Energy Drain back because they have too many Aetherflow charges, just like they did in ShB when they removed it for one patch.
I wish they reworked AoW, ED and Ruin II into something that works as a single target rotation.
But SE hates healers doing DPS even if they are forced to HW SCH would be easier for newer players than current SCH if not for cleric stance.
I wouldn't be surprised if they merged AoW and Ruin II next expansion.
