The problem with variant/criterion is not the content itself, but the reward structure surrounding it, which is related but not directly a part of it. A more accurate analogy is having a great car that you love but you have nowhere to drive it except a shitty parking lot. It's a great fight IMO. The best song in the xpac as well. SoS overshadows it because it was the best X.X boss by far but it's a good and vauthry had a neat arc.
Assuming you can even fit in Flurry with the current skills. Then again I've not raided on BLU last expac so I doubt the old days of having to have a physical+2magical skill at the ready for that one debuff for 10% dmg bonus still applies.

TBC was basically the opposite of everything classic was. Leveling in classic was enjoyable, and there were great dungeons, but MC was a shit raid, Onyxia was shit and AQ+AQ2 electric Boogaloo weren't much better. BWL was ok I suppose.
Meanwhile, leveling in the outland generally just sucked, and most of the dungeons weren't particularly good or interesting, but the raids were a lot better, they leaned into more interesting mechanics , the consumable farm wasnt as gay, world buffs arent moronic, and there were area buffs tied to pvp objectives, which I found kind of fun

Caverns of time was supposed to be out in vanilla, imagine it as a blackrock mountain type of deal where you save thrall in one instance and that leads into the 10 man instance with bronze dragons which leads into the 10-15 man UBRS like of opening the portal which leads into the 40 man hyjal which would open up the hyjal area on a server wide event after you clear it to get malfurion's legendary bird stick or whatever the frick.
Hellfire peninsula was also planned to be in vanilla.
And emerald dream and original dragon isles like pic related
At least I'm glad that TBC classic woke people up and made them realize that TBC was the beginning of the end with the massive game philosophy change.

Id say as far as Hunter goes, it was always "decent" as far as I played, which was up to Cata, any mouthbreather could do damage with it. Maybe other than Vanilla where the class was in an identity crisis.
Its very funny how watered down every class is in FFXIV, even compared to WoW. The rotations are more complex, but at the same time, you only really have "selfish DPS" and "Not selfish DPS"
Maybe one day they'll suddenly be cured of the brain rot that's overtaken them and they'll make jobs interesting again, and while they're at it they'll change aggro back to how it used to be so DPS can actually steal bosses from tanks who aren't putting in any effort.
It was still possible for the tank to lose aggro, I remember making it happen by throwing enhanced Balances at RDMs right before they let loose with everything. Now a tank can't lose aggro at all unless they just aren't using the stance at all.
Give tanks back multiple stances too.

I really liked playing AST in normal/alliance raids but I never got into the savage stuff. Kinda wish there was some fricking content in between so I could try to play the class to it's fullest potential without having to raid on a regular schedule

My static is still on o10s but it's shaping up to be one of my favorite fights so far. I like fights that take advantage of the environment. Sadly the rest of the tier seems kinda bland.

Ever since 6.2 i've had this feeling they've been designing fights in separate teams and then stitching them together as they see fit difficulty/lore wise. Euphrosyne, abyssos and now anabaseios felt particularly disjointed in that regard. Maybe they've always done it that way but raids have never felt as much like a rollercoaster of difficulty as they've been in EW.
difficulty wise its fine. Anabaseios is about perfect for difficult for its intent, as is Euphrosyne. Barbie and Golbez are about perfect for trials, esp in MSQ, Rubicante is a bit easy. the 6.x dungeons are all fun to run with the exception of Smileton, especially Lapis Manalis, Dead Ends and Troia
Smileton's always fun because the last boss has emergent player behaviour when people see me standing in the safe pixel at melee range, try to copy at the last second, run into the mine and send the whole party flying into every AoE with paralysis before a body check.

I just get rid of the mines with TBN. You dont even get the debuff. Same with the 1st boss fron alzadaal, you just TBN and ignore the tentacle attacks.
Euphrosyne felt incredibly tame, especially compared to Aglaia which wasn't exactly groundbreaking either. Every fight feels like a tutorial for its own gimmick that ends before they do anything interesting with it, like they had the mechanics down but didn't have time to actually design a fight around them.

I'm actually quite disappointed at how that fight turned out, as Nymeia is basically just there to pepper in an aoe or a gaze mechanic every 3 minutes
here's a hot take:
Menphina's fight is more involved than Nald'thal's and if it weren't for the cutscene attack it would be a superior fight. Menhpina's cutscene attack is pretty damn good too, with the ice adds we just killed carving out her symbol as Dalamud appears and she rises up on her ice halo thingy doing a superman pose. then sits on his paw while she continues to attack
Myths of the Realm is on track to be my favorite non-MSQ related questline if it finishes strong, which I think it will, given how Pandaemonium ended.

I'm actually kind of mad about BLU tanking, it's one of those things where I just don't understand what the developers are even trying to do, or what they are thinking, it's as if they've tried to make something as unfun as possible on purpose.

BLU felt like they were phoning it in from the start, but it got even worse this time
force field would be fine as an extra thing. I can survive with the spells I had already, but you can always try to use this and see if you are lucky and spare healers a bit of healing.
There are 2 problems however: It has a 120s cooldown so even tho it can be cool, you aren't going to use it that much anyways, and the fact that I can only equip 24 spells and those 24 spells are already way more useful than this shit.
It's funny that you can get it from Sephirot extreme instead of waiting until you learn 120 spells.

that being said as a tank I do like Sages the most as healers and if I ever did castrate myself and become a homosexual then I'd probably play sage.
I think they should scrap Criterion Savage as it is and make, instead, a difficult trial against the secret boss. That way I can fight all variant bosses without making the criterion dungeon longer.
You do the dungeon, and then you unlock the trial as a final boss, since the secret boss of these dungeons already work like that.
Not that guy but i think the bosses and trash are fine, some fights are better designed than savage fights even. Despite that i feel like criterion is unfriendly as frick towards pugs because of the difficulty they went with which makes it even harder to justify doing it again and again. Its the same issue with EO. On a micro scale nothing about them is more challenging than a savage fight but if you look at the whole package i'd say they're harder to clear in a pug than a single savage fight.
I think if they kept the difficulty but added progression for casuals to eventually be able to beat it that'd be pretty fun
I dunno maybe that's too much of a wow thing.
Actual character progression. I don't think it'd be bad if it had some of the character power that you could find in bozja/eureka to make the content easier to run with people and it'd help make it more playable when the next expansion comes in.
I mean I guess you could just put in an echo but seeing as how a lot of people are complaining about there being not much to do this seems like a better way to solve that issue.

Combining Lost Actions with Criterion Dungeons could be pretty cool. They could open the routes back up and make certain lost actions only available on particular route combos.
Then for Savage, they could make certain LAs mandatory, kind of like DRS.
Criterion is fine, but Criterion (Savage) is just "now do it again, but without dying mid way lol".
It just becomes tedious and I already saw everything the duty had to offer in Criterion Normal.
Not only the rewards suck, but doing it for the sake of completing it isn't that appealing either.

After playing Scholar since ARR, Sage feels weird to play. It's like they took every suggestion to improve Scholar's gameplay and made a whole job out of it.

The game has tons of content built up for new players since a lot of it is mandatory or evergreen, but the problem is a lack of content for veterans who have always been playing.
You'll definitely want to finish any optional trial series and Colis/Alex/Omega before starting Endwalker. Eden is a fun raid series, so I'd do that too.
I did coils up to Nael and the Snake b***h. I'll admit I never finished it but that was mostly because the group I played with was doing level synced, no echo and whatever else that made an actual challenge and I was exhausted.
Now they're all gone except one of them.
I did Alex, Ivalice and Omega though. I'm never not happy to run Ivalice, I love that shit.
Criterion Savage should still be a gauntlet from start to finish but you should still get 1 raise each for the entire duration. The second mob room in Rokkon gets especially exasperating since it's so easy to get one tapped and then the run is just over. Even Ultimates aren't this punishing outside of your regular body checks.
Don't know if the Westwolves thing is real but I can see why people might doubt it/not like it. It definitely feels more literal compared to past expansion titles (even before knowing what they really mean), and I think the alliteration makes people think of sports teams. If I had to guess, a pack of wolves moving on the west is supposed to explore themes of colonialism and/or promoting understand cooperation, since wolves are heavily mischaracterized through out the world.

The problem with variant/criterion is not the content itself, but the reward structure surrounding it, which is related but not directly a part of it. A more accurate analogy is having a great car that you love but you have nowhere to drive it except a shitty parking lot. TBC was basically the opposite of everything classic was. Leveling in classic was enjoyable, and there were great dungeons, but MC was a shit raid, Onyxia was shit and AQ+AQ2 electric Boogaloo weren't much better. BWL was ok I suppose.
Meanwhile, leveling in the outland generally just sucked, and most of the dungeons weren't particularly good or interesting, but the raids were a lot better, they leaned into more interesting mechanics , the consumable farm wasnt as gay, world buffs arent moronic, and there were area buffs tied to pvp objectives, which I found kind of fun

Caverns of time was supposed to be out in vanilla, imagine it as a blackrock mountain type of deal where you save thrall in one instance and that leads into the 10 man instance with bronze dragons which leads into the 10-15 man UBRS like of opening the portal which leads into the 40 man hyjal which would open up the hyjal area on a server wide event after you clear it to get malfurion's legendary bird stick or whatever the frick.
Hellfire peninsula was also planned to be in vanilla.

Its very funny how watered down every class is in FFXIV, even compared to WoW. The rotations are more complex, but at the same time, you only really have "selfish DPS" and "Not selfish DPS"

getting aggro in the old system involved using your aggro combo one or two times and being set for the rest of the fight
It was still possible for the tank to lose aggro, I remember making it happen by throwing enhanced Balances at RDMs right before they let loose with everything. Now a tank can't lose aggro at all unless they just aren't using the stance at all.

I really liked playing AST in normal/alliance raids but I never got into the savage stuff. Kinda wish there was some fricking content in between so I could try to play the class to it's fullest potential without having to raid on a regular schedule

Savage is the worst place to play Healers are their fullest potential.
The point of savages is to make the least number of mistakes as possible so you will only heal when there is mandatory damage if your party dont suck
And healers rotation is a borefest of three buttons
Healers are just weak DPS with off-GCD abilities that cover all the healing.
the best content to play a healer at full potential is lv 90 dungeons with a no warrior as tank, since you will use all your tools to heal the tank when they aggro 2 packs of mobs and at the same time you DPS
But in dungeons you barely care about the whole card mechanic and that sucks

My static is still on o10s but it's shaping up to be one of my favorite fights so far. I like fights that take advantage of the environment. Sadly the rest of the tier seems kinda bland.

I think would've liked it if i had my static to play with but i absolutely hated it in PF because of the body checks.
P9S is okay, but it feels like they put too much into LC and not enough in the rest of the fight.
P10S is great, but feels like it shouldn't have been a second floor.
P11S is a bit boring compared to 10S, and even feels less difficult than it.
P12S P1 is great.
P12S P2 is nothing groundbreaking, but is still alright.
My personal conspiracy theory is that Themis used to be p10 and Pandemonium was p11 but they swapped the two before release for story reasons.
It definitely feels like it at times. P11S and P10S could definitely be swapped without any changes save for DPS requirements.

Ever since 6.2 i've had this feeling they've been designing fights in separate teams and then stitching them together as they see fit difficulty/lore wise. Euphrosyne, abyssos and now anabaseios felt particularly disjointed in that regard. Maybe they've always done it that way but raids have never felt as much like a rollercoaster of difficulty as they've been in EW.
Could be they were originally from the original 7.0 before it got mothballed. I really get that feeling with Aglaia and Euphrosyne.
difficulty wise its fine. Anabaseios is about perfect for difficult for its intent, as is Euphrosyne. Barbie and Golbez are about perfect for trials, esp in MSQ, Rubicante is a bit easy. the 6.x dungeons are all fun to run with the exception of Smileton, especially Lapis Manalis, Dead Ends and Troia
Smileton's always fun because the last boss has emergent player behaviour when people see me standing in the safe pixel at melee range, try to copy at the last second, run into the mine and send the whole party flying into every AoE with paralysis before a body check.
I just get rid of the mines with TBN. You dont even get the debuff. Same with the 1st boss fron alzadaal, you just TBN and ignore the tentacle attacks.
Euphrosyne felt incredibly tame, especially compared to Aglaia which wasn't exactly groundbreaking either. Every fight feels like a tutorial for its own gimmick that ends before they do anything interesting with it, like they had the mechanics down but didn't have time to actually design a fight around them.
At the very least it's much easier to form a group for Criterion than it is Savage since you only need 3 other people.
Euphrosyne only feels tame for people with brains. Sadly, Halone hard filters a surprising number of morons. I was in a run yesterday where I was shitting out Verraises and everyone would always find a way to die while I was doing my finisher combo.
yeah. also, Nymeia of all people wracks up kills because of her progressive water attack.
I'm actually quite disappointed at how that fight turned out, as Nymeia is basically just there to pepper in an aoe or a gaze mechanic every 3 minutes
here's a hot take:
Menphina's fight is more involved than Nald'thal's and if it weren't for the cutscene attack it would be a superior fight. Menhpina's cutscene attack is pretty damn good too, with the ice adds we just killed carving out her symbol as Dalamud appears and she rises up on her ice halo thingy doing a superman pose. then sits on his paw while she continues to attack
Myths of the Realm is on track to be my favorite non-MSQ related questline if it finishes strong, which I think it will, given how Pandaemonium ended.
I just wish there was more going on in their fights. Too much downtime between mechanics.
Nald'thal doesn't have a cutscene attack anymore because iLevels have gotten high enough that he straight up dies before it can happen.

I'm actually kind of mad about BLU tanking, it's one of those things where I just don't understand what the developers are even trying to do, or what they are thinking, it's as if they've tried to make something as unfun as possible on purpose.

force field would be fine as an extra thing. I can survive with the spells I had already, but you can always try to use this and see if you are lucky and spare healers a bit of healing.
There are 2 problems however: It has a 120s cooldown so even tho it can be cool, you aren't going to use it that much anyways, and the fact that I can only equip 24 spells and those 24 spells are already way more useful than this shit.
It's funny that you can get it from Sephirot extreme instead of waiting until you learn 120 spells.

I think they should scrap Criterion Savage as it is and make, instead, a difficult trial against the secret boss. That way I can fight all variant bosses without making the criterion dungeon longer.
You do the dungeon, and then you unlock the trial as a final boss, since the secret boss of these dungeons already work like that.

Not that guy but i think the bosses and trash are fine, some fights are better designed than savage fights even. Despite that i feel like criterion is unfriendly as frick towards pugs because of the difficulty they went with which makes it even harder to justify doing it again and again. Its the same issue with EO. On a micro scale nothing about them is more challenging than a savage fight but if you look at the whole package i'd say they're harder to clear in a pug than a single savage fight.
I think if they kept the difficulty but added progression for casuals to eventually be able to beat it that'd be pretty fun

Actual character progression. I don't think it'd be bad if it had some of the character power that you could find in bozja/eureka to make the content easier to run with people and it'd help make it more playable when the next expansion comes in.

Combining Lost Actions with Criterion Dungeons could be pretty cool. They could open the routes back up and make certain lost actions only available on particular route combos.
Then for Savage, they could make certain LAs mandatory, kind of like DRS.

It just becomes tedious and I already saw everything the duty had to offer in Criterion Normal.

Soloing as a DPS is like playing a harder version of variant when compared to tanks and healers. SGE is specially braindead since kardia does all the healing for you and the dot action carries your damage. Im not even sure if soloing as DPS is any faster than as a healer too.
I enjoy it because it makes me practice doing my rotation while mechanics are coming out. It's like a striking dummy, but actually fun.

The game has tons of content built up for new players since a lot of it is mandatory or evergreen, but the problem is a lack of content for veterans who have always been playing.
You'll definitely want to finish any optional trial series and Colis/Alex/Omega before starting Endwalker. Eden is a fun raid series, so I'd do that too.
I did coils up to Nael and the Snake b***h. I'll admit I never finished it but that was mostly because the group I played with was doing level synced, no echo and whatever else that made an actual challenge and I was exhausted.
Now they're all gone except one of them.
I did Alex, Ivalice and Omega though. I'm never not happy to run Ivalice, I love that shit.
I’m at like 74 days played and I’m a sprout in the ShB patches.
You don't lose your sprout until you complete the final 5.55 quest before Endwalker starts.
Criterion Savage should still be a gauntlet from start to finish but you should still get 1 raise each for the entire duration. The second mob room in Rokkon gets especially exasperating since it's so easy to get one tapped and then the run is just over. Even Ultimates aren't this punishing outside of your regular body checks.

Don't know if the Westwolves thing is real but I can see why people might doubt it/not like it. It definitely feels more literal compared to past expansion titles (even before knowing what they really mean), and I think the alliteration makes people think of sports teams. If I had to guess, a pack of wolves moving on the west is supposed to explore themes of colonialism and/or promoting understand cooperation, since wolves are heavily mischaracterized through out the world.

Its fun for a lot of people, and is becoming an alternative for the houselets. Its weird how you guys claim IS is some massive resource waste, but at the same time call it lacking. I seriously doubt much money or time actually goes into updating IS each patch.

I did notice the mob was weirdly out of place compared to literally every other mob in the dungeon but i unlocked those endings without ever making the connection with the water 3 cast.

If the expansion is new world: The letter is sent from a tribe of people asking for help, since they are being genocided by a big evil tribe trying to summon their god which is just another primal.
If the expansion is Ivalicekino: There has been a recent breakthrough in auracite technology and Krile will utilize it and become a new caster job themed after it

I think a new world expansion could be a ton of fun, its final fantasy, you can just throw everything together in a pot. Cowboys, indians, frog aztecs, post -Black person detroit, etc. You can have sci fi stuff and fantasy at the same time.
