Cross-Gen evolutions are cool because they're seamlessly inserted into the existing dex, a Pokemon couldn't evolve, now it can, that's it. It's all these other tangential lines, particularly the convergent evolutions, feel pointless and like dexbloat.

Toedscool is neat, but Wiglett is a waste of a cool motif animal by making it based on Diglett instead of a garden eel. No feelings on the DLC guys in general.

i liked them in SM, but SWSH's were ugly and SV's fudged the numbers with palette swaps just to reach 1000 monsters

There are 1004 if you remove them, so it was uneeded anyway. Just put the gang of 4 before the coins.

Regional and convergent evolutions are interesting concepts based on real life. Everything else is pointless trash

Convergent is less interesting in Pokémon than it is in real life though. Like real world examples you have things like how octopus have similar working eyes to mammals or the various kinds of wings. Meanwhile in Pokémon functionally similar aspects of different species are ignored and the cited ones are purely "they look similar, but are not related", even though the function is different.

        >purely "they look similar, but are not related", even though the function is different

Which makes it confusing why they're referred to as "convergents" if the functions are different but they just look the same. They might as well be regional forms but in everything but name

Convergent evolution isn't an actual thing in the game to begin with.

they aren't officially referred to as convergents
          >They might as well be regional forms but in everything but name
regional forms are the same species just adapted to whatever enviroment, "convergents" or look likes are different species that just happened to evolve to look like another species kinda like how a lot different species in our world just happened to evolve into an appearence similar to a crab

            >just happened to evolve to look like another species kinda like how a lot different species in our world just happened to evolve into an appearence similar to a crab

The issue is that the Pokemon designs all look WAY too close to the original to merely be a coincidence and instead just look like a form of the original mon so I can understand anon's issue. They could have gone to greater lengths to differentiate them more from the originals to make their similarities actually look more like a coincidence especially since they come from completely different environments.

That actually sounds more interesting - makes one wonder how they evolved to look so similar despite being in totally different environments.

Not really. Most RPGs do that. You go in a cave, monster. You go to a lake, monster (water). You go to a volcano, monster (fire).

Those are palette swap monsters, not nearly the same thing

Gmax forms will fade into mega pokemon when it inevitably returns
    >Mega Charizard X
    >Mega Charizard Y
    >Mega Charizard G
But I typically don't think mega pokemon should ever exist unless the line already has 3 pokemon in it.

Seems unlikely. There are NFE such as Pikachu, Eevee, Meowth, and Duraludon with GMax, but Mega is an evolution of those who cannot evolve further under normal conditions

Well I don't see why those except Duraludon (Forma Archaludon) will return.
I think that Gamefreak regrets Raichu's existence
