Anyone else weirdly nostalgic for the port city featured in the first movie?

I'm nostalgic for hand-drawn animation
Same
This. Pokemon peaked visually with the OS.
I've been making my way through the anime from the beginning, never watched it all. Mostly coasted off Kanto anime knowledge all these years. Currently rounding out the last Johto eps, and the anime definitely looks better during Johto compared to Kanto. It is pretty obvious the animation was given more time and budget or something. The animations are often unique or complex. The one noticable trick they do use, though, is looping animations for some small moments. They also still use some animations to recycle frequent scenes. They are also sloppy with consistency, for example recently James' arms were folded, but one of his hands didn't have a glove on. One recycled scene showed Misty's face close up, but these setting was indoors.
Overall it's better looking though. I'm dreading the switch to digital animation in Hoenn soon.

Misty close up was outdoors, setting was indoors
Johto was my favorite aesthetic for the anime as the Indigo League was too washed out for me, especially in the beginning.
I want to do something similar to you, but watch the JP dub (original) with subs, because I noticed just how much better the first movie was with the JP script and fansubs. I don't know why, but even just one full season's worth of episodes is so hard to find find at a non-dogshit quality. There are countless instances of older stuff being preserved online in consistent 480p, but Pokémon, something that apparently the whole world was fricking enchanted by, is so inconsistent, it's nuts.
>because I noticed just how much better the first movie was with the JP script and fansubs
o rly? didn't know that. watched the first movie a bunch because I had it on VHS.
It's only how I feel about it, so don't hold me to that. If you watch it, you might feel differently, I had a VHS of it, too, mine came with a Mew card that I no longer have.
There are good quality subs out there, but AG is at an awkward position. The people who are/were into Pokémon would have been more or less content with the dub, and unlike Indigo-Orange-Johto, people haven't gone out of their way to upload good rips to sub, as AG isn't as nostalgic, which the shift to full digital didn't help.
DP onwards, however, tons of good subs out there, some of the episodes being in 720p. I think 2006 was when all the good sub hosting sites got big and DP was able to ride the wave. Movies are still hit and miss, though.
I got the ancient mew card from the theater, but my vhs came with a promo electabuzz.
I need to find the good subs of AG. I'm currently watching the whole series subbed with one episode daily. I'm at the first half of the Indigo League. It would take more than half of year for me to be at AG.

Hoenn series onwards doesn't even have proper subs iirc all I found was garbled engrish subs
Yeah, visually it feels like the original series peaked in the latter half of Johto (right before the switch to digital). Honestly, I would check out after Johto. The Hoenn series sucked and visually were awful to look at.
This but not for pokeslop, the Ashnime has always been bad.
season 1 at least was good
SOVL
The early movie credit scenes were always my favorites.
this credit scene made me feel so happy inside back then I still remember it
pure sovl
I liked the cel art before everything went digital and the greenery went nuclear
>the greenery went nuclear
I like how everyone feels the same about it.
Does it have a name?
>Old Shore Wharf (Japanese: カントー波止場 Kanto Wharf)
Thanks.
Because this is what a lot of Japanese coastal cities in the 90s looked like.
