Anyone Feel like Pokémon was supposed to end after Gen 4 because they pulled out all the stops?
I remember reading somewhere G4 was supposed to be the last, think about it. Kinda a big leap to go from Gen 3s weather trio to literal gods of time, space and an actual deity. Like how do you surpass that?
I remember masuda saying something like it makes sense to end it here, because there’s no really topping making the creation trio. Like, it makes sense because you see wirh Gen5 they did a soft reset, and toned it down a bit. The Unova dragons are deities , they just represent ideals and don’t have a huge impact on the world. Nothing too drastic, and Kyurem is strong af but again; he’s just a rare banished dragon , and he fricks off to his own cave anyway
You can see they kinda falter and stumble thinking of “themes” for legends now because they peaked so early. Gen6 legends just represent life and destruction, nothing too huge , Gen7- just the solar systems.
The legendary wolves aren’t even themes for anything, they’re just mythical legends of that region, like wtf is even Eternatus? He’s supposed to be the most Op legend so far but only shows up, just some random eldreich beast.
Gen 9 tones it down even more with the motorbike dragons literally being friendly ass fricks that let you ride them..
So yeah, gen4 might not be the best but their legends should canonically be the strongest; I guess it made sense to end the game here right? Like how do you go bigger than “Deities and lords of time”.

not really, the gods of time and space dont really do anything at all in the game, if it was really supposed to be the final game they'd have more importance
You’re right they only aim to assist Cyrus in destroying the world and remaking it in his image haha nothing too drastic anon !
Thats literally just Cyrus trying to use them as weapons, not them doing anything
Arceus is literally the seed in some of the less mundance demiurge theories which state that a single God can create a universe by creating and then destroying placeholders.
Such destroyed placeholders are the universes and will sooner or later reassemble with or without help by its lower selves, us humans.
demiurge is only responsible by creating the material world which is obviously not the case with Arceus who is a part of the material world
>Anyone Feel like Pokémon was supposed to end after Gen 4 because they pulled out all the stops?
No.
Make a point or don’t comment at all, moron
You asked a question and I answered it you stupid frog.
I don't know, it's easy to forget it but a lot of games were going for the "most big epic story in the entire series" thing at the time of DP's release. I think it might just be a symptom of that general trend.
People have been saying this since DP first released. Personally I think the deities thing was a mistake altogether. Pokemon were better as newly discovered sci fi monsters taking over Japan, not literal Izanagi/Izami creating the world or w/e.
agreed, take me back to gen 2 where they were still treating new pokemon as new discoveries and not just lol pokemon is literally everything and god
Gen 2 is moronic, "wow these Pokemon that have literally lived in the region for years and have local legends told about them are 'new' because they're not from Kanto!"
well even johto researchers themselves only recently discovered pokemon eggs. perhaps johto pokemon were more elusive up until that point.
Research on pokemon ingame is not so ancient, think of Laventon as one of the first researcher.
Research on pokemon with more advanced tools is perhaps only more recent, tools that were not present in the days when Oak was a young trainer.
Oak is considered a pioneer of modern scientific research on pokemon, and so several things that were previously taken for granted about pokemon have been confirmed or disproved based on subsequent researchs on reproduction, evolution, and fighting tools.
Elm is only someone who was woking at the same time of Oak and discovered something about eggs and baby pokemon.
there's a difference between a local legend and a proven existence
>Gen6 legends just represent life and destruction, nothing too huge
?????
Dont bother
Its a sinnohfetus thread
yes but only because gen 5 was awful
Gen 3 started the world ending JRPG plots, having literally god in the game was the next logical step, if you ever played a Final Fantasy game you understand.
No because they knew that they were moving to a non-jap region next so they declared Japannoh the sacred home of the Pokemon god Arceus to make sure everyone remembers which country really owns pokemon
>Masuda: hello Iwata, I think I am going to cancel the incredibly succesful pokemon franchise for no reason at all, I just feel like it after designing deity legendaries
no, this will always be a delusional take. creatively they may be floundering and without direction nowadays, but that's just what happens when you make the same game ad infinitum
No not really. They're just Pokemon based off of things, and you collect and battle them. They serve no other purpose to the players. This head canon world building shit you got going on does not matter, at all.
Being gods doesn’t make you the strongest, in Pokémon lore at least
Also, dialga and palks aren’t even dieties. They just control their respective elements.
The only “Gods” in gen4 are Arceus and Giratina, and even Giratina is banished to its own realm away from people.
But that’s why I loved gen1
The idea of a legendary just being really strong and not directly related to the story is kino
Not impossible. The games ended up being a huge sales jump over Gen III overall, a lot of old Pokémon got new evolutions, they covered a lot of real life Japan by that point, etc. Still, hard to say for that.
But Pokemon peaked with Gen 5? How did they pull all stops on Gen 4?
>dude canonically strongest legends
Avatars of the universe forces arent exactly the pinacle of strength for the pokemon world
5895
Nah that's you, jeet
Pokemon went to shit when they stopped doing Japan-based regions.
Pokemon went to shit when they stopped trying.
Personally, I'd love for GF to TRY making a decent non Japanese region.
If anything Gen 4 should have simply been completely skipped, it's obsession with high stakes and overpowered legendaries was a cancer for the franchise and I'm glad Gen 9 finally pushed that asides to attempt something different for once. Also Pokemon was supposed to end after Gen 2, everyone and their mother already knows this.
Masuda used to call DaiPa the “Ultimate” Pokémon game when developing the world. Arceus was literally the height of the universe at the time, on the tallest mountain in the series. Tying it to the Ruins of Alpha in Johto then brought all 4 gens together.
Gen 4 was the end of Pokémon’s origin…
None of that is true by the way.
If anything was meant to be the end, it was Gen 2.
Gen 3 they committed to the multi-media empire.
>Anyone Feel like Pokémon was supposed to end after Gen 4 because they pulled out all the stops?
Gen 1 wasn't supposed to get a seuqel. Gen 2 was supposed to be the end of Pokémon. etc
Gen 2 was the original official end. This is a fact and has been stated by Tajiri.
Gen 3 was a soft reboot and an attempt to cash in on more money, but the passion was also still there. Ruby and Sapphire were good games, but no Gold/Silver. Emerald made up for it.
Gen 4 was the second, unofficial end, in my opinion. They really did try hard to make them the ultimate Pokemon games. Although Platinum wasn't as much of an improvement over DP as Emerald was over RS, DP in general were better than RS.
Gen 5 was yet another reboot attempt, but failed miserably. It is better than everything that came after it, but worse than everything that came before it. The games were abjectly dumbed down on purpose to an embarrassing degree. B2W2 were a little better, but not nearly enough. And personally, I wasn't that impressed with the PWT considering we'd just gotten to fight Kanto/Johto gym leaders in HGSS just 2 years prior. That is no fault of B2W2 but it was pretty redundant.
gen 5 was a soft reboot so yes
>pulled out all the stops
Stops such as care, quality or amount of content? They definitely pulled those out.
discord post
They aren’t deities and they aren’t particularly strong compared to ex Groudon Kyogre as reflected in their stats, the perception as such is exclusively western Christocentrism
would explain why game freak stopped caring after 4
That would explain why the first gen 5 pokemon wasn't revealed until the last pokemon movie while gen 4 pokemon were already reveealed since the 7th movie and made appearances in gen 3 games even and had their own movies in the middle of gen 3.
