Anyone know of any good not-pokemon or digimon monster collecting/battle games?
played pic related recently and loved it, but it left me wanting more. apparently the devs are making a spiritual sequel but it's a fricking roguelike and I'm sick of that shit
you played it already.
Monster Sanctuary is the only good monster battler released in the past decade.
damn
yeah I tried Siralim and they made an unironic "well, that just happened" quip in the first three minutes and I refunded it immediately
Monster Sanctuary like you said.
Yokai Watch but if you're gonna play 1 or 2 you should use the recruitment cheat because they're genuinely beyond terrible even with Cupistol/Casunuva and their favorite food.
Ni no Kuni 1, not 2. 2 is a Tales of game.
Nexomon. They're mobile Pokemon knockoffs that feel like they have Neopets mixed with DeviantArt designs. Not for everyone but I liked them. Extinction is the more modern of the two but they remade the original not too long ago. If you're you won't like it, they break the third wall a lot or do a bunch of references.
Telefang. If you ever played those Pokemon Diamond/Jade knockoffs back in the day it's those games but not broken. Telefang on GBC has a translation patch, I don't know about the sequel on GBA.
Coromon with its great artstyle. It's kinda leaning on a more GBA-esque look.
Disc Creatures if you want something more like GB Pokemon.
Monster Crown if you want a GBC Pokemon-esque game mixed with Telefang-esque designs.
I wouldn't call it "good" but there's also TemTem if you want to give it a go.
>Coromon
>TemTem
I hate how they take these potentially good games and turn them into eugenics simulators because 'muh pokemon'
>but you don't need to use
I'm autistic, sue me.
Siralim is much less about the (very short) story and about the (very long) autistic 'mon collection.
I disliked just how broken some setups get. Like regularly killing all your opponents before they get to take a move. It stops being cool to find new things to fit into your combo when everything is so stupid beforehand.
That's partly the point especially with the scaling.
Not really, there's a reason most were left in the dust. I say this objectively and not because i like pokemon or anything, in fact i never got into it.
casette beasts was fun
if you mean more "real" ones then the dragon quest and monster hunter spinoffs are good
>try to play this game
>BEST PLAYED WITH A CONTROLLER XDDDD
>try to play with controller
>nothing is bound except jump
>no way to rebind buttons
>return game 2 minutes later
Wew.
>BEST PLAYED WITH A CONTROLLER XDDDD
who the frick told you that
did the devs say that?
they're full of shit, the game plays perfect on mouse and keyboard
It literally says it when the game starts up
I wasn't paying attention then
Its just a quick message at the beginning, easy to miss
it's bullshit, even Outer Wilds pull that shit off and you're better off with a keyboard anyway
this is completely wrong, keyboard players straight out get fricked out of dealing the dark bramble the intended way because keyboard players can only go full speed with the thrusters while gamepad players can move slowly
Actually, it's doable even with the keyboard since you can release at a high speed before heading into that particular area
I never said it wasn't possible, I said that you can't do the intended solution.
You mean you're not supposed to hug the walls so the angler fish can't eat you even after they spot you?
Yeah, wew lad.
Pokémon Wack (shut up)
Dragon Quest Monsters
SMT Devil Children
Robopon
nexomon extinction and nexomon 3 comes out next year. extinction is a good time aside from writing being a little cringe. also, the fast traveling system sucks, keep that in mind before playing.
I wrote this wrong. nexomon extinction is already out.
When the jokes do land they're pretty good at least.
>When the jokes do land they're pretty good at least.
I see what you did there.
Problem with Nexomon is that the gameplay is so samey. Everything gets the same move-pool. Differences in stats between species are negligible. And they stuck in some shitty phone game mechanics.
Dragon Quest Monsters 3 just released Anon.
By far my favorite indie monster collector. Pokemon has a large romhacking scene which adds things like difficulty and QoL. I like those more than most real games.
> apparently the devs are making a spiritual sequel but it's a fricking roguelike
Please tell me you're not referring to the upcoming Monster Sanctuary game.
>Please tell me you're not referring to the upcoming Monster Sanctuary game.
It's called Aethermancer, it's supposedly a roguelike from my understanding and not a sequel to monster sanctuary
SMT or pokemon romhacks
Give Yo-Kai Watch a chance. It's moronic but that's why it's great. Also, you need to check out a Dragon Quest Monsters. The breeding can get super addicting plus DQ combat tried and true.
oh yeah, yokai watch seems to also have a new game coming
Monster hunter stories is good. Both one and two
I need a team who can beat the final content DLC. It's the only content I never came back for. I beat the game when only the base game was out.
I did NOT beat the game.
trolls OP
some of them deserve it, especially on master
roco kingdom starts testing next year
it is an open world monster collection game with features from legends arceus and visuals like genshin
>level scaling based on tiles explored
miss me with that gay shit. I play those kinda games to overpower enemies at some point, not stay a wimp all throughout the game
>nooo!!! I can't overlevel like a shitter I need to use my brain and build a team with a solid strategy!
Uh oh filtered.
Let me trigger some PTSD for you.
>being this mad about his shitty game not being praised by everyone
Uh oh, filtered.
Those grapes sure are sour, huh.
>lose for the first time in the story at this battle
>respec my Frosty and cripple a specific threat on turn 1
>barely get the momentum in my favor from there but ultimately win because of that one change in strategy
this was the exact moment my autism was tickled enough to go all in on team synergy and fighting the legendary keepers later was worth it
Well, there is cassette beasts, which is alright.
i played moonstone island and it was fun but the vilagers are ugly with too much focus on being stardew vallley dating shit, but you can ignore it
monster sanctuary i hear is good
ni no kuni is amazing and underlooked, that said the game really fricks up near the end and enemies can randomly one shot you at max level, in cutscene attacks
i wish there were more monster collecter games, or just games wehre you play as a kid and go on an adventure
Jade cocoon 2 is the best
Not OP
is it better than Jade Cocoon 1? That looked great but the gameplay was lacking.
Disc Creatures and Monster Crown are the best ones besides Pokemon imo.
Everything in Disc Creatures needs like 2x def or magic def. If you hit something with the weaker one they just melt.
