I rented the first one all the time as a kid. Both games are really fun and I replay them a lot. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever get remasters due to music licensing being a nightmare. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
It's parody. Do you really think in 2001 the devs and publisher were thinking "we're going to amplify trans voices and make our product representative for the trans community"? The bio blatantly describes them as salarymen. These types of characters were always included as clowns.
Speaking as a huge Bust a Groove fan, Dance Summit 2001 is complete and utter shit. They broke everything imaginable the series had going for it, it's no surprise at all it killed the series and didn't get localized.
You should play the original Japanese "Bust a Move" games if you haven't already. You'll never want to play the American ones again when you see how much got censored. Some of the English covers of the songs sound better though.
This. If you enjoy a game just play it you homosexual.
The censorship is dogshit and really lazily done but the English covers are legitimately excellent and should be appreciated. Ideally there'd just be an uncensor patch to best preserve everything but nobody's made one for either game, despite how incredibly gimped they got (the second game moreso as it had all its ending cutscenes removed). I looked into it myself years back and yeah, it didn't look like an easy task, the song files looked to be all mashed together so it's not just a file replacement matter.

Wait so they called this completely unrelated game the same name as the international version of Puzzle Bobble? What the
They even saw fit to cut off the announcer saying "Hiro-kun!" Which is why PAL and US releases sound like the announcer was cut off. In the second game, they cut the cig, the endings (still in the game data), and added English versions of tracks. Japanese songs and endings are still in the NTSC/UC discs and extractable.
Same, it was the only rhythm game series I could sort of play. It would be nice to introduce the amazing mechanics and series to a new generation of players. Given how popular dancing is these days in short form videos with the kids, it's surprising the devs wouldn't capitalize and make it inclusive for them to partake.
I used to have that controller, I don't know what the frick you're supposed to do with it besides slap your body with it. Feels ridiculous. Went out of my way to sell it and Dance Summit 2001 but ended up with the game again against my will when I bought a random NTSCJ lot. If anything killed the series, it's that awful fricking game.

I think people were really into Guitar Hero and Rockband at the time. I remember there was a special controller for the Nintendo portable too for the rhythm game.

It is different and tried to do team dancing which is ramping up the game more. The controller does give it a different method to play, in the same way I do better on DDR on controller than stomping on a pad, but the play method is part of its gameplay.
The original is such a weird anime, not funny per se but fascinating in it's frickiness and slow pace.
Then they decided to go with the ol' 2000s edginess with Oh! Super Milk-chan and it went to shit.
>hope for a remake or at least a remaster
Why? The japanese duology's good enough as is, or do you want your fond memories sulled by current year™ politics worming its way into your favorite games? You bet your chubby little ass they would ruin it and people would retroactively shit on these games forevermore.
Loved Bust A Groove as a kid. I remember it was the first time I used the internet to find the inputs for the high scoring moves, which basically just lets you roll everyone.
Yeah, it's a versus rhythm game meant to be played with a controller. The problem with both games is the learning curve. First game is easy as shit and funner the more you play; second game is hard as shit and requires more accuracy. They both have unlockables, but the second game requires you to beat the true final boss (Pander).
oh man i really hope for a remake too since the third part was so diferent, here is some gameplay

>i still hope for a remake or at least a remaster
We are in times of panderverse and woke, so believe me, you would NOT want to see a remake or a remaster of any retro videogame.
over 20 years too late bro
That's not pandering, that's parody.
*pandering, Japan

Dance Summit 2001 was barely even Bust a Groove anymore
Speaking as a huge Bust a Groove fan, Dance Summit 2001 is complete and utter shit. They broke everything imaginable the series had going for it, it's no surprise at all it killed the series and didn't get localized.
It's hysterical when Japan creates it out of insulting parody
Yeah, it... stopped being fun camp and became more "Britain's Got Talent."
That is a parody, not panderverse.
frick you and your fricking remakes

What does the S stand for on that gentleman’s jersey?

Surprise no Wii and 3DS installment?

They all look like characters from wario ware
same artist who made this

I think it's always been a gag anime and they took a different approach with Oh. Hope that Forever doesn't suck.
Hasn't Forever been in dev hell for like three years
Should i watch it subbed or should i choose either one of the dubs (the potty mouth dub and the direct translation dub)
Prepare to get bored to death with Oh's sluggish pacing.
For me they look like Go Nagai characters.
You're not far off
I recognize those curly sideburns and hair bangs
One of my childhood best friends loved it. I didn't get the point. He liked the aliens.

I WANT TO PLAY LE HECKIN REMAKERINO RIGHT NOW!!!!!
never heard of that game, is good?
It's a fairly simple call and react rhythm game. It gets by on its style and music mainly.

>He thinks a shitemake would retain the 60-esque shibuya kei cartoon style it had
Yup. Loved it.
