Conquest's story is mind numblingly dumb to the point you are better off skipping the text and making it up as you go.

Birthright's story is somewhat passable, but the gameplay is worse than Conquest. Revelations is the worst of both.

chapter 10 kinda sucks actually because it really fricks lowmans/solo runs and specifically Pick my unit runs. because you need so much player phase combat to beat the map, it stiffles creativity in challenge runs, making it the worst map in the series.
Dude, by chapter 10 you literally can only exclude like 2 units, maybe 3 if you have Mozu. Why not do a full deploy?

Sorry, not possible. in my run, if a unit was rolled by an anon and they had a number lower than 5 as their last digit, they had to die on their join chapter. Camilla got rolled on a 5 which allowed the anon the choice of life or death, and they killed her. That map took me like 12 tries
Well that's a very specific problem for you.
You can always modify the rules so they die by the end of the chapter, so at least you don't get softlocked.

its mostly a function of additional decision making and maps that are designed to move your units in multiple directions. birthright has really boring rout maps littered throughout while most conquest maps have good skill combo design and anti turtle incentives

There are 3 Fates games. The first 6 chapters are the same for all of them and the you have to make a decision in chapter 7 about which game you want to play (you can only choose the routes that you've already bought/pirated). You (the avatar character) side with your foster siblings and the beligerent, European-inspired kingdom of Nohr in Conquest whereas in Birthright you side with your birth siblings who you don't remember and the peaceful, Japanese-inspired kingdom of Hoshido. The third path, Revelation, sees you refusing to side with either and set out to uncover the hidden truths of the world.
Conquest is the hardest and bests of the routes with a lot of care put into its maps. Birthright is ok until around halfway when it becomes enemy spam and Revelation is full of oppressive gimmick maps. They're all seperate games and don't share very many maps, each is as long as a GBAFE.

i have played every single fe game multiple times, like dozens of times for 7-10, and easily 5 plus times for every other game, and i don't think i could tell you one story beat about any of them. i don't think i have ever sat through a cutscene

I cant see Conquest story being all that bad. Birthright has some ridiculously dumb stories too. Getting into a fight with the wolf clan because they think you want their fur. Then the matter gets settled through talking and because of an explosion they misunderstand. It's all so mindnumbingly dumb. And then there's Corrin that never wants to kill anyone and trusts everyone, it's infuriating.

It's the best Fire Emblem game hands down so it says a lot about the series as a whole.
Fates as a whole would have been a better story without Corrin. It feels like they had the makings of what couldve been something good but had to warp the story to revolve around your self insert OC instead.

fates would have been way better if you were related to the nohrians and had no relation to the hoshidans so that birthright would be you betraying your family to do the right thing.
