A game that is finished on release.

i think the seasons refer to the ranked duration - so season 1 was like 4 months, season 2 was 4 months ect ect.

Few old games were finished at released.
That's why expansions, rereleases 1.1(like alundra), International editions, and Champions edition exist

The bigger issue with her is that she just feels like France+ with no real sacrifices.

France should get La Hire as Infantry General.
The C&C: Generals: Zero Hour approach
Maybe Bureau as Artillery General as a second variant and drop France for good

I'm somewhat new to the rts genre, I've never practiced build orders or anything of that sort. Coming from League of Legends, my biggest achievement in rts genre would probably be hitting gold in sc2 a few years back (without any build knowledge, just playing as if I was playing vs AI).
I've played a bit of aoe4 a while back but took a break, I'd like to get into this game. I could beat hardest AI before taking the break.

My question: is playing without any build order in mp feasible? Ideally I'd just jump into the game and improvise on the spot. It would probably but me off the age timing and make me vulnerable to rushes, right?

i'd say give it a go and see how it feels. If it all works out, you can keep at it and start making adaptations based on human behaviors. If you are behind, check on guides to see what they do and adapt their orders into your normal plans.
The worst thing that can happen is that you get placed in bronze and have to fight you way up

Yeah, the playerbase is big enough and matchmaking is good enough that you'll settle into a niche where you can play.

Really the most relevant thing about build orders is that you are not "sitting on resources" - by knowing what to build next, you build it ASAP and do not lose any time. But really it’s not so important *what* you build next, as long as it makes moderate amount of sense.
The specific timing pushes or rushes are strong, but only abstractly strong. They are often tied to the meta, so by playing outside the meta you are already less vulnerable. Timed pushes also depend heavily on execution, you may find yourself in a bad position but able to recover by just outplaying the opponent. Hitting a good timing is far from an auto-win, if anything it is a thing of the mind where the disadvantaged player might tilt, or the advantaged player may get overconfident, just as well.

Basically hitting a good timing versus the enemy is like getting an early kill in lane, theoretically the game is easy to win from there, but for some miraculous reason those matches often go worse than the ones that start with 10 minutes of undecided chill laning.

        >getting an early kill in lane, theoretically the game is easy to win from there
unfortunately in the higher ranks it's hardly the case, but I get the point
        >Really the most relevant thing about build orders is that you are not "sitting on resources"
I'm gonna admit, that's pretty hard to do without a build order. I used to struggle with overflowing with certain resources and then not having enough of another. But I think it comes from the fact that I get the tech upgrades too soon

Do you have some kind of a crusade against build orders? Why don't you just learn one, it takes like half an hour for a complete beginner.

Because I find the idea of build orders boring. I want to play the game myself, not just follow someone else's plan to beat the opponent. What's the point of playing the game at all? That's why I've always prefered company of heroes to more traditional rts games but I want to give them a try

          >Yet another noob treating build orders like flowcharts
It's just a handy set of opening instructions that you would've made for yourself over the course of an hour. Someone else did so and just told you what he did. That's it.
It's the aoe2 equivalent of a level 1 jungle camp clear order.

It's AoE2 but with the antiquated design decisions having been removed or replaced by QoL features, like how you don't have to manually re-seed farms anymore or don't have to drop off your resources before building a resource camp.
If you like the multplayer, go ahead. Don't buy it for the singleplayer campaigns, though.

The farm change isn't qol. It turns a wood:food conversion structure into an infinite food source, removing momentum from strategy.

yes play however you want, the point is to have fun

As long as it works, you're playing the right way

Nobody should explain to anybody what build orders are and why because, you know, it's pretty obvious and logical why they're a concept and a thing, but the point of RTS is to adapt and make your own decisions, recipes, and have fun with the sandbox. Obviously, some decisions you could take are fricking moronic and will lead you to defeat, but it's up to you if you want to experiment yourself. Who knows, maybe you'll find something no one else has.

As for playing as if you were playing against AI, well, like, that's the whole point. It doesn't matter if it's an AI or a person. Actually, people does some funny mistakes more often than what you would think.

RTS are awesome because how many possibilities can have, that is, if it's a good RTS. (Not starcraft, that's solved as frick and very constrictive)

We teach them what they are because they're not intuitive, and because the fastest way to improve is by iterating on what you or others do. Sharing resources only improves this process.
Your idea is only good for the simple joy of AI-bashing, which caps out quickly and is quite lonely.
And no, they're not comparable to actual human players. The AI plays according to a mostly-static ideal, and doesn't innovate to get advantages during a match. It doesn't adjust to copy you or use cav/siege micro, and it has unrealistic archer micro. It F2-moves, it doesn't wall/quickwall, and half of the lessons you learn from it are entirely useless in MP.

IMHO, the promotional screenshots are unreadable and grey as frick. They look pretty for posting in threads but would be absolute hell to actually play with.

Contrarily, AoE4 screenshots look bad in threads but are super readable and look good ingame.

The biggest sin of the game is to have added stone towers which make cities look kino but they've been nerfed to the ground so nobody uses them.
          Similar for the siege tower.

That camera is rotated 90° to the right. You'd never look at buildings from that direction.

It's pretty good overall and actually fun. I like changes to the AoE2 formula, but still retains the important parts of it
