>AoS gets all sorts of cool Underworlds warbands, Warcry warbands (loads are about to be squatted sadly), Cursed City, random Black Library figures in warbands

>40k gets Blackstone Fortress (unavailable, never mind the expansions), most of the Kill Teams are just bonus sprues but a few are cool like Elucidian Starstriders and the Navy Breachers, a few bits like Combat Arena that aren't internationally available
>couldn't even be bothered with unique stuff for a Darktide game

Why is this? Why can't I buy a Zoat easily? Why can't I buy most of the plastic Rogue Traders they've made this last decade?

I just want cool weird little bits

Couldnt't thye be bothered to actually paint the models like they do for every Undeorworlds pictures?
In OP it looks about the same in terms of size

because 40k is on life support because all of the creative people and writers are currently assigned to AoS.

40k started a good trend with LoV and Genestealer Cults, but they haven't really added any new races or factions in a long time except for Votann

What the frick are you talking about? In the past 10 years you got AdMech, Custodes, GSC, LoV. Do you know how many new factions were added to the game from 2004 - 2014? How often do you zoomers need new factions added to maintain interest?

All of which is stuff that already existed in the media for the setting minus the leagues. 40k doesn’t do anything new it just recycles ideas it had already

And don't forget on sister revival. I am buying a box of sisters every three months or so, just to keep GW persuaded that they are popular faction.

The problem with these boxed games is, forgetting the mini issue, that they feel unplaytested and designed for maybe 5 games of use before feeling ultra repetitive.

      Anonymous

That's because they're not made to be played. The game is there as an afterthought, the target buyers are people who buy them just for the models or lifestyle consumers who buy the box to keep it on the shelf for some bizarre nerd cred.

War cry and underworlds are fun though

But those aren't the B&N boxed games. What you're describing are actual games.

It's easy to mistake this as a real game because it's based on a reasonably well received video game, but this is not a "real" game. Like said this is one of these filler games you'd see at Barnes & Noble or your other big book retailer of choice. GW has released these garbage boxes of repacked minis for years, most likely as an advertisement where someone sees it on a shelf and thinks "Hey I've heard of Space Marines and this is not terribly expensive," before impulse buying it. The only reason this one is different than the others is because it's got a recognizable license and minimal advertising as opposed to being quietly slipped onto store shelves.

I know it's a buzzword at this point, but 40k really seems to have lost its soul. It's just so bland these days.

The last cool model they released was the mechanicus stilt man

    >Why can't I buy
Did you miss the last couple weeks, bro. NEVER buy trash from GW. Print it if you need it

    >Why is this?
Upper management seems to keep a tighter leash on the creatives working on 40k compared to AoS where they basically just let them throw shit at the wall to see what sticks. It's why AoS's model releases have much higher high's and much lower low's than 40k, which has had pretty consistent "meh to okay" miniature releases for years now.

This box is a meme, old repurposed minis not matching the shitty video game they come from.

It is a close to zero budget cash in to attempt to get new consoomers into the game.
They do not want the people who are critical enough of the product to point out that those models look nothing like the characters they are advertised as. They want people who see something and their instand twitch response is to buy it

it's a bit late for that considering Darktide seems to be on life support and most of its player base has moved onto Helldivers 2.
even Vermintide has gotten more support in the last six months.

          >our game is repetetive because of the low variety of missions and objectives?
          >better update random ass subsystems no one gives a shit about insead of adding new maps
That's all Darktide needs. New fricking maps and objectives. The twin boss fight was cool and I enjoyed playing that, I want more of that, but they don't seem to be able to deliver.

40k doesn't need it. GW are still desperately trying to course correct on AoS and bring new people into the setting after pumping millions into its development. 3e sold like shit, hopefully 4e will be its last

      >GW are still desperately trying to course correct on AoS
How is making the same thing for over half a decade course correction?
They threw things on the wall a long time ago and Underowrolds/Warcry are what stuck

        >introduced a posterboy faction and began their complete redesign and replacement within two editions
        >have flip-flopped from WFB styled stuff being considered leftovers to be replaced asap, to making "WFB+" factions like Gloomspite, to now completely segregating due to TOW and reportedly pushing for Undying Toothmen and Baloonendorfs tier uniqueness only from now on
        >Underworlds support is getting dropped because it failed to live up to the moneymen's delusional expectation of The Next Big Competitive-Casual Game That Will Rival MTG
        >Warcry's scope has completely changed twice from its initial Oops All Chaos mini-setting to a kitchen sink approach to reportedly soon mimicking Kill Team's "mostly box+sprue, occasional main unit update, occasional new stuff" approach

        >same thing for over half a decade

          >every edition has been markedly different from the previous and none have stuck with the initial "vision"
They're all new flavour of Stormcast vs other Grand Allience in a setting theamed after one of the realms. The vision has been very formuleic to the point 3e and 4e have been guessed long time before they happned
          >Gloomspite
Have been steadly pushed towards crap aesthetic with the direct remake of Skarsnik model composition looking like short Doctor Doom
          >Underworlds support is getting dropped
          Baseless rumour
          >Warcry scope
This is the only valid point, but i'd argue GW deciding to take the formula and expand from 1 faction to every faction, while shifting production from 1 set of small boxes to big box every quarter is a sign the formula worked. The actual gampleay hasn't even changed that much, they just added more options to it

We'll get all Starstriders and BSF explorers + inquisition acolytes available for a 'make your own retinue' unit in the next Agents of the Imperium codex. Have faith, lil one, you'll be able to mix and match all your favorite characters into squads full of soul. GW won't lock them behind some yee-yee ass out of the box combinations this time. Everything is going to be ok.
