It would have been more or less the exact same as Elite Dangerous but at the scale of a few dozen systems and probably would have been killed off when it or No Mans sky released.
This game is everything I wanted Starfield to be and more, it's not even close. Still prefer SF's chunky designs to SC's more sterilized designs, though.
>see how this board will pretend they always believed
I never will. Was way too ambitious in scale for their early timelines and the ship selling was ridiculous. The cult like actions of some fans due to sunk cost and the feature vloat didnt help either.
Nothing they achieve will change that.
That's the joke, it isn't.
They can't release 1.0 because then they'd have to start issuing refunds based on the promises they broke.
It's literally a pyramid scheme. They don't sell Star Citizen, they sell the idea of what Star Citizen could be if you're gullible enough to believe a single word out of Chris Robert's mouth.
it needs polishing and optimisation, so it's legitimately no more than a year off
they will release this time next year, and probably announce it during the may sale
>Working on water deformation effects for your spaceship that you will likely never see as it's all happening behind you and rarely will you be flying with another player ship to see it
God this entire project is so blatantly made by an ideas guy
>water deformation physics are le bad >being used in a cinematic campaign and a persistent universe MMO
You're the same kind of homosexual that sperged out over WHY ARE THEY WORKING ON CLOTH PHYSICS IN A SPACE GAME (inspired by Dune where they wear lots of cloth)
>REEEEEE WHY AREN"T GAMES MAKING TECHNICAL ADVANCES ANYMORE >NOOOO NOT THAT ONE
just frick off and let us enjoy the videos. Go be a homosexual somewhere else. There's like 50 other threads for you to shit on.
This has the same problem as Starfield, Elite Dangerous and everything else. Soulless, stuffy, conventional, taciturn.... Boring.
Somebody needs to send a box to Todd and Chris with a copy of Heavy Metal, Ice Pirates, Battle Beyond the Stars, Barbarella and Flash Gordon with a note that says "This is what you keep leaving out. This is why your game isn't fun."
And no I'm not just talking about coomer shit. I'm talking about a fantastical and unapologetic attitude. These frickin ng space games are all drab.
Starfield and Elite aren't fun video games because they're not fun and they're super light on content and actual activities. Not because of the sterile sci-fi aesthetics.
>Chris Roberts is a bad game dev because he spent a whole three whopping years on Freelancer and got le fired and replaced by Microsoft >somehow this applies to Star Citizen a game with unlimited funding
ok moron
>hasn't directed a game in over 20 years >MS had to step in to actually get a game out
He's a washed up wannabe.
And you really believe they're going to produce a game with no oversight?
This. People act like the Wing Commander games were some legendary franchise.
They were mostly crap and unplayable by modern standards.
Shut the frick up zoomer stop pretending as if you played any of his games before.
Freelancer could've been made in 1 year. Chris is a talentless hack and Star Citizen will suffer the same shit Freelancer did.
Delays and broken promises.
But sure, put your hopes on fricking Chris Roberts of all people, you insufferable cultists.
>Freelancer could've been made in 1 year
After Microsoft's cut content? Probably. The fact that Freelancer is good despite Microsoft butchering the project speaks volumes about how great Chris is.
>only made one good game >only produced one decent movie
One trick pony. Chris Roberts is rich because he's selling nostalgia to you MGTOWs with no families and disposable income.
Freelancer could've been made in 1 year. Chris is a talentless hack and Star Citizen will suffer the same shit Freelancer did.

Copy my pledge. Minimum package. You'll earn the ships you want in game. I'm not exaggerating. I have a thousand plus hours in the game and I've never spent a cent beyond the minimum.
So I'll have to buy an unfinished linear, not open world game, in order to understand another unfished game?
Sounds like you should've backed the game when both games were included :^)
If you believe Chris made Freelancer decent (not good, decent) then I have a bridge to sell, you gullible cuck.

>Users who registered for the site before the game was announced on October 10, 2012 have a Golden Ticket on their account which indicates they were the very earliest members of the community. The Golden Ticket was an invite to the launch event on October 10th. It also entitles the holder to a special decal on their ship if they subsequently backed Star Citizen by pledging for one of the spaceship tiers as well an un-announced small in-game item. A Golden Ticket holder has no additional privileges or game status outside of being able to say there were some of the earliest members of the community.

These fricking guys sure do love pissing on the idea of a golden ticket.
Right now? Either the Cutter or the Nomad sale package. Cutter is the best starter ship if you want to run cargo, and the best way to earn money starting out solo is to run bunker missions so you don't really need more weapons.
Looks cool but they couldn't even make it run at stable 30fps assuming they recorded it on a rig with 4090. It dips below 20 frames throughout entire video.
>Think they will have to push it out as they need the revenue to baffled reviews
They've accrued like $620 million in crowdfunding. Even with the worst project management (which this game definitely is), I bet they've got at least another few years before they run out of money
Last year was their biggest fundraising year ($110 million) and this year will likely fall $10 million short. Still gonna hit $100M
I suspect with the goodwill from this SQ42 presentation and Pyro, 2024 will be their biggest fundraising year ever. It's not running out of money. It will hit a billion dollars in crowdfunding in about four years.
maybe, the STF is likely going to just be the 3rd Variant of the Cutter so that's meh, Concept ship will either be the Argo manufacturing ship or the RSI large miner.
They have something stupid like a thousand developers and their income is drying up. Selling something will add further runway (and they can sell more jpegs to cultists)
That’ll be the hope but it’ll all come crashing down if it underperforms
Why would you need revenue when you have idiots sending you free money for tech demos?
Star Citizen would unironically remain MORE profitable by never releasing at all.
paying attention to what? He's the OG wing commander guy who made freelancer why the frick would anyone want a shitty AAA FPS campaign from him? Not even FPS heads want to play a crysis single player campaign.
This is the most hilarious part. Make a simple Freelancer clone with realistic controls and it'd be out in no time. But no, he had to make a fricking reimagining of EVE, a spreadsheet simulator.
Worst of all is we all know why. This way he got to milk morons for over 12 years (and counting). It's insidious, but expected from the pseudo-jew.
>I don't know what the frick that is supposed to be.
like those old Wing Commander games except with modern graphics.
and a bunch of celebrities in the cutscenes.
>Make a simple Freelancer clone with realistic controls and it'd be out in no time.
Isn't the main thing that people think is going to be Freelancer 2 taking something like five years
Who knows at this point. Time has seized to exist when it comes to anything Starshitizen.
You'll see people in the old folks home going "just you wait youngster, Chris Roberts Jr. has just shown us the latest jpeg of a dildo-rocket. Star Citizen is just around the corner".
I honestly think none of this is intentional. He’s just a perfectionist who can’t plan nor understands modern game development who has been given unlimited money and no publisher oversight to create his “magnum opus”.
Cue insane scope creep and no project management and nobody releasing anything and tech being a mess
>bought into the kickstarter in 2013 >spent $250 on an Andromeda? >downloaded the game twice since and played a total of 10 minutes
Is there actually a game now? Or just individual modules to fart around?
Can I get in my ship and explore space by myself and find shit to do?
>Soft launch
So after 15 years of development it will be in early access?
And you are okay with this?
My brother in Christ, are you fricked in the head?
Why wouldn't I be okay with it? I'm already logging in daily and the wipes every 18-24 months are the only thing keeping me from making it my full time game.
Nice updates lol

AI bricks itself when servers are overloaded. Game works fine on the right server. That's kind of why server meshing is so important. Distribute the compute across multiple servers instead of having the entire Stanton system on one instance.

>Game works fine on the right server
Like a server in the same room as all the computers that are playing? Still plenty of physics and AI issues in their own demo.
its going to spend at least 5 years in a buggy mess phase were only supreme autists have any fun with it. it took 3 years to "fix" cyberpunk 2077 and that was 20% as ambitious with a more finished game and a more experienced dev team. The MMO is not meeting any semblance of completion till 2033
I'm an og backer and stopped paying attention once the first iteration of a game where you could fly a ship launched and you could walk around like 3 space stations and kill some npcs or something.
This looks ok but I'll continue to not give a frick till it launches and I get the email saying it's SQ42 availible.
The endless development is a feature, not a bug. It's why we keep funding it. We literally voted for them to continue developing the game instead of wrapping things up to get a 1.0 shipped back in 2017. Until that vote concluded, anyone whoever backed had the ability to refund. Zero sympathy.

What's the cope this time?
i mean it looks cool, the only thing im worried about is that they'll release squadron42 next year and then take another 4 years or so to finish multiplayer
I played runescape for a decade and I loved the time when every update expanded the game and made it better, but the lack of vision meant that it ultimately fricking killed itself and had to start over on a clean slate
star citizen is always moving in the right direction because chris roberts is a maniac with a really good vision
Let the paypigs fund it forever
Their overpowered gear and ships will be worthless and they will be shitting their pants and crying when someone wipes the floor with them while using speedhacks and desync and that will be more than worth it for me.
>speedhacks
By the time people bother to cheat in Star Citizen we'll be leveraging AI for anticheat. Especially since it's already a cloud-native game and they're using Amazon's Lumberyard/O3DE.
I always thought SQ42 was just supposed to be you shooting shit in space with a story, apparently it's a full half life 2 style campaign? It actually looks kinda good but I'm sure the game is going to have shit performance regardless
It's more than that, it's an open world where you can abandon the main quest with Mark Hamill et. al. and go play Privateer/Freelancer to your heart's content.
i can tell you right now that the multiplayer version of star citizen will be absolutely riddled with cheaters and they won't be able to do jack shit about it.

They scrapped that version of the game after THE COMMUNITY VOTED TO EXPAND IT. People love to forget to mention that part of the story.
That version of the game was developed on a shoestring budget back when the game was a $2 million kickstarter instead of the $600 million behemoth it is today.
We literally did. They stopped it themselves while we kept voting yes. This was the final poll at $55 million. They stopped at $60 million.
Q: Should we continue to offer stretch goals? (Total Votes: 34590 - 7% of Citizens, ~14% of alpha backers)
55% - Yes

>Does it have a future
Hard to say. It's coming up on being 10 years old by the end of next year, and back at the beginning they said they had a 10 year plan for it. There's lots of speculation on what they're going to do but FDev is being very tight-lipped. The company hasn't been doing very well lately. Their Formula 1 game bombed and they've lost significant stock value over the last few years. The dreaded 'restructuring' word has been whispered, so they're probably going over everything line by line before they decide what survives and what gets the axe. They're pumping out the Thargoid stuff like crazy, but not much for any other gameplay loop.
Anonymous
they already fired a shitload of people my dude. ED has been mismanaged for the last ....well, since it came out basically, and they're certainly not going to turn that around with less devs and the game on life support.
Shit sucks, but it is what it is. I wish I could take my Type 10 and DO something with it in the game worthwhile other than the shit engineering grind.

t10 is actually pretty good at gathering salvage in Thargoid systems and killing Orthrus interceptors. It can fit a multi-limpet controller which frees up a lot of space for more hull and some cargo space.

It's unfortunate. One of the guys in my squad asked just today if we'd be moving over to SC in the event they pull the plug on ED. Most were either a straight 'No', or a 'If it's actually a game at that point, maybe.'
Alright ScamCitizenShills, you've convinced me to redownload the game and log in for the first time since 2016. What am I in for, and what do I do to have fun?
Can I have my HOTAS and controller hooked up at the same time and switch between them when it does first person shit?
Run bunker missions to earn seed money.
Once you can afford to buy a vulture (1.2million) buy it and do the 1kUEC,5kUEC,and 20kUEC missions once each.
Rent a cargo ship and start doing the 50kUEC (C1 Spirit) salvage missions. Don't bother salvaging the ships that spawn, just loot the cargo via EVA and take it back to town to sell. My brother once made 9million from a salvage run because the wreck spawned with 100 SCU of drugs in the cargo hold.
>Ganker hates this game cause of the scam it bringing >it bringing out cool tech and the last server meshing proves it, knowing how scam cit works with all it updates, it'll be broken >game is very slowly being built bit by bit and looks like it's getting to a somewhat playable state >once it gets to that state more people will play it (by that state i mean a full working industry like eve) >Ganker still wishes for this game to fail yet while i believe it's a scam, i want it to succeed >when it does having a playing state i know Ganker will play it >Ganker will start a pirate group and kill the whales >make the whales angry cause all the money they've invested into the game, some homosexuals from Ganker is going to blow their shit up just for the lols

he believes since server meshing basics have been done and implemented into the servers, they can now spread their manpower onto other things since SM was their main focus for all these years.
but i agree with you, still so very long before it comes out
I already bully the whales and have done since the game became a hardcore PvP full loot MMO. I steal their exclusive items and ships. They are mine until they come get it back off my corpse. looks fine, look at the most popular FPS shooters right now. CoD stalker looks about the same as those industry standards.
It's always been obvious to anyone paying attention that Squadron 42 would be finished and released. Unlike Star Citizen, this is the game Roberts always wanted to make after all. He just needed funding for it, hence scam citizen.

Oh look, fresh copium. Funny how this line didn't show up until recently
I've been saying it for years. Check the /vm/ archives where we actually play the games we talk about. Pyro and Nyx have been done for quite some time and they're already working on system #4 and #5
I've played your trash too during free flies. I've never heard anyone claim that they're withholding content because of server meshing, only that they're waiting for SQ42 to release first.
Dude they're literally withholding Pyro because they can't implement the jump gate to jump to other systems without server meshing. They finally decided to make it a separate entry in the menu because meshing is taking too long.
Anonymous
Okay, why didn't they just add Pyro as a separate server first? That's how they started the alpha, with different locations on different servers. It's because it wasn't done, and was probably a complete shitshow, judging by the parts of Pyro we've already seen.
Do you like sandbox MMOs? Star Citizen's mechanics already surpass Freelancer's. We only have one star system but that one star system has better gameplay/content than the entirety of Elite Dangerous/Starfield.
Every time I've taken a look at SC it's gameplay is almost exactly like Elite's. You do the same fetch quests, the same combat, it's just packed into a single star system instead of billions.
Main gameplay loops:
Cargo (Buy low, fly elsewhere, sell high.)
Courier (Pick up a box at a post office, put it in your ship's locker, fly to another post office.)
Bunker (Fly to a random outpost, land, descend an elevator, kill a bunch of COD npcs)
Bounty Hunting (Fly to a specific place and kill a specific target.)
Salvage (Pay for salvage rights to a ship, fly to the location, loot the ship.)
Mining (Search for ore, drill it with a mining ship or a hand drill.)
There's also a few PvP gameplay loops like an abandoned space station where a 3d printer will spawn a bunch of drugs and you have to loot them and get them back to your ship to sell before other players kill you.
Right now the biggest issue with the game is the UI. It's like playing a game designed for VR. The starmap in particular is absolute ass and setting a destination can be buggy and frustrating.
>it’s like playing a game designed for VR
if only. The game doesn’t support VR at all. It’s so fricking clunky and unfun to play. I had the misfortune of trying during a F2P weekend
Yes I know. It’s all very clunky. They could really use a complete UI overhaul, but LMAO they’ve been working on the game for a decade so that’s probably too much to ask
Chris has always worked with actors. That's the way you did things back when you were making games with FMV. Why wouldn't you want to get actors to act in your game?
I'd imagine he got good rates too. Henry Cavill did it for free and all the other guys are people CR has worked with before.
Every German i've met on the internet is insufferable, but the ones i've met in real life tend to be decently friendly if not a little wary of random people. I hate dealing with them online though
>Impatient
Dude, most of us were foreveralone khv's and now have wives and shit. This has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with the development being an absolute shitshow.
It seems like the ones playing this still are trying to convince themselves more, than us, that it's actually worth it. Make no mistake, i would love a good sci-fi game, it's my favorite type of settings.. but i've yet to play a single minute of SC. Not even tried any of its free weekends.
It's nothing special, that's the problem. All these years and frick-all to show for it. It's purposefully stuck in development hell because they actually managed to turn an idea of a game (not an actual game) into a subscription model for whales. It's a sad, sad state of affairs but this how they make their money. There's no way in hell they are interrupting their cashflow by releasing anything other than hopes and dreams. The release of an actual product in shambles will frick them over and the snake-oil salesman knows it.
even in their gameplay videos which I'm sure was taken on the best machine money can buy, their game can't hold a good framerate
but it looks really good and there is a lot happening during fights at least so it's kind of justified, unlike saarfield
Okay, why didn't they just add Pyro as a separate server first? That's how they started the alpha, with different locations on different servers. It's because it wasn't done, and was probably a complete shitshow, judging by the parts of Pyro we've already seen.
Because a separate entry on the main menu is less impressive than the persistent universe. They really wanted to have server meshing implemented so you could do that.
It seems like the ones playing this still are trying to convince themselves more, than us, that it's actually worth it. Make no mistake, i would love a good sci-fi game, it's my favorite type of settings.. but i've yet to play a single minute of SC. Not even tried any of its free weekends.
Not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm just posting as an informed individual that has followed the game for a long time and actually played it.
>Because a separate entry on the main menu is less impressive than the persistent universe. They really wanted to have server meshing implemented so you could do that.
You're telling me your honest copium is that Pyro was done, but they chose not to release it so they could put it into the persistent universe...but then just gave up? When server meshing is supposedly so close to being implemented? How about maybe it just wasn't done. How can you look at the footage of Pyro and think it's been done for longer than a few months, at best.
>The most footage they've ever shown >Bragging about polishing >Still don't have a release window
I want to be excited, really, however, this constant spiral of trying to make something above the level of fidelity in a Rockstar game without the reality of it-needs-to-come-out-now will continue to kill any interest I have.
If it's so close to ready and will be out "soon", then they need commit to it and finally decide on what the game needs to be, not what they want it to be.
I don't remember the name of the effect, but basically you can trick people so much they know deep down they've been tricked but to admit it would cause massive psychological damage, so instead you get people like OP
What's wrong with the cappucino machine? It has a ten year warranty and includes service. That machine serves coffee to 700 developers in their Manchester office. You probably take issue with the fact that they have someone on payroll delivering coffee to people who order it from their desktop because you know, it's totally a smart idea to have a software engineer getting paid $65/hr making his own coffee instead of paying an intern five bucks.
What are they supposed to buy instead? A Keurig that breaks once a week? Would probably cost more than the $10K they spent on the nice one.
I'm not going full moron. I work in software development and if an employer had me making my own coffee in a fricking keurig I'd work for another company. This is Valve's cafeteria. They have a Michelin star chef cooking them food and google their snack bar. Gonna seethe about that too?

That's not the point. The aesthetic is clearly inspired by Dune. In Dune they wear lots of cloaks and shit.
How in the frick is Star Citizen inspired by Dune? And what does that have to do with justifying "wrinkle simulation"
They literally have Fremen-inspired armor sets in the game on Hurston. There's sandworms (taken out of the game until they get AI working better/maelstrom destruction physics reimplemented). Characters will have ranged power shields that can only be broken via melee combat. How is it not inspired by Dune?
Environment suits and rock paper scissors armor isn't exactly "inspired by" and sandworms are, at best, a reference. Inspired by implies theming and narrative similarities, not easter eggs.

Prediction: sand worm will be reimplemented within 18 months of server meshing being introduced to the game.
>taken out of the game until they get AI working better/maelstrom destruction physics reimplemented)
Cope. Anyways, you mean one planet is inspired by Dune. Because nothing else seems to be, and I genuinely don't believe they're going to add shields that only break from melee. Do lasers cause explosions when they hit shields or no? Is there spice? Mentats? Ben Gesserit lookalikes? No? A sandworm in a scripted trailer from years ago doesn't mean the setting is Dune-inspired.
StarCloth(tm) isn't doing anything basically every game has been doing for the last 5-10 years.
In fact, the current state of the art is far beyond what they've shown.
They literally put a sand worm in an old trailer that people meme on to this day. Also a few of the armor sets are very desert/Dune inspired. That being said I would agree it's not much compared to other scifi settings. It's clearly much more inspired by Star Wars.
>It's clearly much more inspired by Star Wars.
The best part is Roberts wants the game to play more like how Star Wars looks, but puts in a flight engine that makes Star Wars dog fighting literally the worst way to attack anyone.
It's an internal struggle for the desire of maximum autistic realist but all wanting maximum autistic Star Wars. I can relate.

I honestly think Roberts doesn't understand that you can't have it both ways. I imagine him autistically screeching at videos of people shooting each other about how they're playing his game wrong.

If this ever releases and is actually good I'll get to play it the same way the people who have sunk incredible amounts of time and money into this. If it never releases or comes out bad I'll have lost nothing.
After Cyberpunk was unfricked (and it was also developed over 10 years, including the 3 years for 2.0), I can believe this will turn out fine if they won't just stop and force the release too soon.
And if I had access to it like Star Citizen's persistent universe, why would I not want that? I would fricking love for Freelancer to be constantly updated for 20+ years.
It wouldn't be in early access anon. Star Citizen's "alpha" only exists to try and get more people to give them money.
If they already had the money they would never bother with early access. You think Roberts likes it when people point out that he's never made a single deadline he set for himself? Or point out the constant retreading of old content? Or of ships being put how where their main selling point isn't actually in the game yet?
If Roberts had 600 million dollars in 2000 to make Freelancer, you wouldn't see a damn thing of it until he started to run out of money.
There's a difference between a game being updated post-release and a game never being released.

I'm only interested in SC if I can be a real space pirate ruining the life of buygays and stealing to resell their shit.
If it's a safe place like 99% of MMOs, then frick off.
Part of their last presentation was outlining the three types of player-held territory. One is high security, for carebears, one is in the middle with moderate risk/reward, and then the highest reward is in zero-security space where your assets are only protected by your own defenses with no chance of an unpaid NPC coming to back you up.
There will be considerable opportunities to be a pirate.
>I was just 100% vindicated
homie it's 2023. The whole game was supposed to be out almost a decade ago, and you're shitting your pants over a trailer to the prequel of the game.
I never said you wear mad? Are you feeling okay? I didn't come here to say you were mad, I came here to laugh at your delusions and look at how garbage the presentation was.
A trailer for a TBD isn't really what one should call "vindication".
There is frick-all here but a trailer for a call of duty clone. A call of duty clone that should have been done years and years ago.
I'm not talking about the trailer. I'm talking about Pyro being released to PTU testers (me) on the 31st and all the cool shit that's coming to Star Citizen over the course of the next year.
The game is obviously not vaporware anymore. Who fricking cares if a bunch of whales paid gorillions for JPEGs? It doesn't look dated, and we all know space sims have been lacking in blockbuster games.
Is there anything that releasing soon from citizen con?, Sure those looks cool but I have only broken shity 3.0 something game on my hand so it's not really exciting at all.
that one level in halo reach where you go into a spaceship and fight the covenant in space is more iconic and interesting than anything in this entire nearly 30 minute trailer of extremely generic space combat and FPS combat where nothing interesting is shown. Wow I'm fighting generic space pirate enemies again, whoa, incredible.
Both this and Starfield are such uninspired trash, hundreds of millions of dollars wasted on this bullshit, what a fricking joke.
Say what you will about starfield being mediocre (which it absolutely is), but at least it’s out and it’s actually a full, finished game that you can put 100 hours into easily with the quest content. Mods will fix starfield, but nothing can ever fix the shot show that is star citizen. Even if it releases, it’s so fricking clunky
the mod guys can at least point towards old bethesda games getting a lot of mod support, so there is something there. Even though I'm not convinced Starfield will receive the same amount of mod love.
That assumes people give enough of a shit TO Mod starfield
Not sure we have a date on mod tools yet but Starfield has less than double the number of players Skyrim does atm.
the mod guys can at least point towards old bethesda games getting a lot of mod support, so there is something there. Even though I'm not convinced Starfield will receive the same amount of mod love.
Starfield is a great open platform for modding. The bones of a great soace game are there, it’s just held back by BGS writing and incompetence. Space autists are the most dedicated, persistent frickers, and if the backing for star citizen isn’t enough proof of that, modders have already completely remade games like sins of a solar empire into EvE, Star Wars, and Halo overhauls. >Starfield is a great open platform for modding.
No it isn't. It's buggy, ugly, and offers no unique, worthwhile features over either other space games or even other gamebyro RPGs.
Starfield is a lot of things, but it’s not that buggy for a BGS game. You can build your own ship, board other ships and fight in zero G. The framework is there to make your own crew.
Most of the industry isn't independent.
[...] >The bones of a great soace game are there
No it isn't lmao I can count the number of times I actually flew my ship on two hands in a 100 hour playthrough. The space/sci-fi elements are superficial at best.
Every solar system is its own instance. You can technically fly from one planet to another seamlessly. Most of the cutscenes are literally unnecessary and BGS just made poor decisions. You probably won’t be able to seamlessly enter a planet, but the loading screens for flying around space can be cut.
Every tile on a planet is connected. Modders can literally create large hubs for major cities, like say mos eisley, or kashyyyk and the game would improve 1000%

The FPS combat feels much much better than anything they’ve made so far. It actually feels satisfying. The only thing they really fricked up on was melee combat, which was obviously an afterthought. Doesn’t matter though because modders made Skyrim into dark souls. They can make satisfying lightsaber combat.
Spaceship combat is also something people can tweak with mods easily to make better. It’s serviceable on its own right now though. There needs to be a bigger difference between A/B/C class ships though, and there need to be larger dreadnought/battleship tier ships to fight with fighters

It is understandable (because it makes them even more money) but not normal (because in most of the industry, being a decade overdue for the release of a game would result in the company being dissolved)

So? That doesn't change the fact that it was the definition of development hell. Also >Outsourcing to Illfonic
They dug their own grave with that one, I don't know what they were thinking. And a quick Google search says the scale issue was found in 2013, and they let Illfonic keep working on it for another two years before canceling it.
Because they were able to buy the engine for pennies on the dollar because Crytek was fricked at the time. Ended out working out for them because of Lumberyard/O3DE.
Chris wanted graphic fidelity which meant finding a good engine and forcing it to work to his whims. CIG has done a good job at that so far and i wouldn't be surprised if they start making money liscencing the engine out if they get server meshing to work.

Fricking amateur hour, and they're charging 40 thousand bucks for this shit. Also, who names their colossal super carrier "Javelin"? That's like making an interceptor called "Dreadnought".
The javelin is the largest ship players can purchase, the largest ship in game in some way is the Bengal carrier which is about double it's length and a lot taller/wider
The largest known human ship is the Retribution which is somewhere around 3km long, the largest known ship in game are the Vanduul Kingships which are around 5km long
I understand, it's just that "javelin" is an inappropriate name for a gigantic battleship, because a javelin is a weapon that's specifically made to be small enough to throw.
This is what you choose to nitpick on? The biggest tank designed in WWII is named Mouse (Maus). Take your autism meds before you look up the Rat land cruiser.

It would have been more or less the exact same as Elite Dangerous but at the scale of a few dozen systems and probably would have been killed off when it or No Mans sky released.
try watching it again moron.
This game is everything I wanted Starfield to be and more, it's not even close. Still prefer SF's chunky designs to SC's more sterilized designs, though.
*ship designs
dam I completely forgot about that game.
hahahahahahaha, that low effort cash grab doesn't even come close.
just found out recently the planets in scam aren't actually 1:1 scale
Verification not required.
So when is any of this out?
later
Soon-ish
Based see how this board will pretend they always believed
Check the catalog for yesterday's thread (I'm OP of both of them). The hostility towards CIG and Star Citizen is off the charts.

Is this a joke? This is supposed to be a massive open world game and I'm to be impressed by CGI tears?
What?
>Squadron 42
>open world
What?
two more weeks bro
I thought scam citizen was supposed to be a massive open universe space game.
They scrapped that too?
You're mixing up Star Citizen (open world MMO space sim) with Squadron 42 (mission based single player story driven game in the vein of freelancer)
>freelancer
wing commander*
So I'll have to buy an unfinished linear, not open world game, in order to understand another unfished game?
You don't have to do what you don't want to do anon, there's other games and there's other threads.
Oh shit you're right, I don't have to be a 80 IQ dumb ass!
Have fun getting cucked by Roberts!
Squadron 42 is SP game
you're thinking of the multiplayer game
>CGI tears
that's game footage.
No that's CGI tears, this a video game board, cinematic bullshit goes in Wrong board
Show me something worthwile in the gameplay.
so fricking ugly
>see how this board will pretend they always believed
I never will. Was way too ambitious in scale for their early timelines and the ship selling was ridiculous. The cult like actions of some fans due to sunk cost and the feature vloat didnt help either.
Nothing they achieve will change that.
Unironically 2 years
eventually.
It was supposed to come out in 2016
2 weeks!
2036
The game has been out since 2016 moron
yeah in some early access, patrons-only state I bet. He meant when is it actually for real out?
Squad 42 =/= star citizen moron
2042. Trust the plan.
Originally 7 years ago, but please understand, game develops is very hard.
TWO MORE YEARS
That's the joke, it isn't.
It's like a video game ponzi scheme
two more weeks, trust the plan
Any day now, no later than 2026
They are really close right now, they only have to finish the game, they already have at lest half of it done
it needs polishing and optimisation, so it's legitimately no more than a year off
they will release this time next year, and probably announce it during the may sale
CHRIS WON
I don't need to apologize.
t. Kickstarter backer that never whined and always believed.
Wonder how much they'll raise in November this year.
im sorry
Looks like it will be boring but I'm glad its actually coming out, I bought it a really long time ago and already written it off as never coming out.
This is actually pretty good.
My $20 in 2012 were worth the weight.
It looks like a borefest, space itself is fricking boring.
oh look more vaporware
Can't wait for it to turn out mediocre
It looked awful. Starfield hate will also finish this game.
For anyone who is unaware, Squadron 42 is the prologue that literally ends with your character leaving the military and becoming a STAR CITIZEN
>Working on water deformation effects for your spaceship that you will likely never see as it's all happening behind you and rarely will you be flying with another player ship to see it
God this entire project is so blatantly made by an ideas guy
moron, they're gonna use most of the stuff for Star Citizen as well.
>water deformation physics are le bad
>being used in a cinematic campaign and a persistent universe MMO
You're the same kind of homosexual that sperged out over WHY ARE THEY WORKING ON CLOTH PHYSICS IN A SPACE GAME (inspired by Dune where they wear lots of cloth)
Ever heard of third person mode?
they made it for Squadron 42 cinematics so they can look pretty
looks sick, you can see it from the ground, 3rd person, or if you are a crew on the ship. It's a nice touch.
>REEEEEE WHY AREN"T GAMES MAKING TECHNICAL ADVANCES ANYMORE
>NOOOO NOT THAT ONE
just frick off and let us enjoy the videos.
They aren't fun for a few reasons, including my reasons and yours.
>proper scope
>proper scope

This. People act like the Wing Commander games were some legendary franchise.
They were mostly crap and unplayable by modern standards.
TIE Fighter was definitely better, but they were some of the best space sims back in the day.
>hasn't directed a game in over 20 years
>MS had to step in to actually get a game out
He's a washed up wannabe.
And you really believe they're going to produce a game with no oversight?
Don't forget his successful hollywood debut
I liked Wing Commander.
Shut the frick up zoomer stop pretending as if you played any of his games before.
>Freelancer could've been made in 1 year
After Microsoft's cut content? Probably. The fact that Freelancer is good despite Microsoft butchering the project speaks volumes about how great Chris is.
If you believe Chris made Freelancer decent (not good, decent) then I have a bridge to sell, you gullible cuck.
Freelancer's best parts had basically nothing to do with Chris, ultimately.
>only made one good game
>only produced one decent movie
One trick pony. Chris Roberts is rich because he's selling nostalgia to you MGTOWs with no families and disposable income.
Freelancer could've been made in 1 year. Chris is a talentless hack and Star Citizen will suffer the same shit Freelancer did.
Delays and broken promises.
But sure, put your hopes on fricking Chris Roberts of all people, you insufferable cultists.
3 years was a long time for game dev back then
I'll only apologive for this """""game""""" when it is fully released.
if it isn't released, there is no game.
What Star Citizen package should I buy? I need to atone for my sins.
Copy my pledge. Minimum package. You'll earn the ships you want in game. I'm not exaggerating. I have a thousand plus hours in the game and I've never spent a cent beyond the minimum.
Sounds like you should've backed the game when both games were included :^)

Wew, the levels of lack of self-awareness here are off the charts.
Shilling for Microshaft middle managers is more sensible than being a literal, unapologetic cultist homosexual for Robert the snake-oil salesman.

it's been 11 years anon
>it's actually been 10 fricking years
good to see the fellow old posters still here
I don't feel like I have aged a single day while waiting for this game
it's been a ride. i went from cultist to refundian to just not caring and waiting to see if it'll become a decent playable game one day.
holy frick you backed before the Kickstarter even began.
yeah, you could sign up for the site before the kickstarter. i have a golden ticket.
i've had some weirdos offer ridiculous amounts of money for my account. it's wild
What's the perk of the golden ticket anon?
>Users who registered for the site before the game was announced on October 10, 2012 have a Golden Ticket on their account which indicates they were the very earliest members of the community. The Golden Ticket was an invite to the launch event on October 10th. It also entitles the holder to a special decal on their ship if they subsequently backed Star Citizen by pledging for one of the spaceship tiers as well an un-announced small in-game item. A Golden Ticket holder has no additional privileges or game status outside of being able to say there were some of the earliest members of the community.
Interesting. Do you know what the item is yet?
These fricking guys sure do love pissing on the idea of a golden ticket.
how did you find out about the game?
holy shit I'm the oldest pledge in there. When did the Kickstarter go live?
>thousands of hours
cringe
>Recommending the Aurora when the Cutter is currently same price.
Right now? Either the Cutter or the Nomad sale package. Cutter is the best starter ship if you want to run cargo, and the best way to earn money starting out solo is to run bunker missions so you don't really need more weapons.
Don't care, still not buying it.
Looks cool but they couldn't even make it run at stable 30fps assuming they recorded it on a rig with 4090. It dips below 20 frames throughout entire video.
There’s a lot of fricked tech demos with fricked performance around this “game”
Lots of it doesn’t even look that amazing anymore
Still looks years from release, a real rough mix of assets, no full sequences or clear gameplay.
Think they will have to push it out as they need the revenue to baffled reviews
>Think they will have to push it out as they need the revenue to baffled reviews
They've accrued like $620 million in crowdfunding. Even with the worst project management (which this game definitely is), I bet they've got at least another few years before they run out of money
Last year was their biggest fundraising year ($110 million) and this year will likely fall $10 million short. Still gonna hit $100M
I suspect with the goodwill from this SQ42 presentation and Pyro, 2024 will be their biggest fundraising year ever. It's not running out of money. It will hit a billion dollars in crowdfunding in about four years.
they will make hundreds of millions when squadron 42 releases
As it stands funding is about 6.8mil below where it was by the end of october (not counting the 250k it's made in the last 4 hours)
That's fine. They'll make it up with the new concept sale and anniversary sales. Next year will be bigger than 2022/2023
maybe, the STF is likely going to just be the 3rd Variant of the Cutter so that's meh, Concept ship will either be the Argo manufacturing ship or the RSI large miner.
They have something stupid like a thousand developers and their income is drying up. Selling something will add further runway (and they can sell more jpegs to cultists)
That’ll be the hope but it’ll all come crashing down if it underperforms
Why would you need revenue when you have idiots sending you free money for tech demos?
Star Citizen would unironically remain MORE profitable by never releasing at all.
kek people wanted next gen freelancer with real space sim controls and he made fricking crysis 4, what a disaster.
You haven't been paying attention.
paying attention to what? He's the OG wing commander guy who made freelancer why the frick would anyone want a shitty AAA FPS campaign from him? Not even FPS heads want to play a crysis single player campaign.
This is the most hilarious part. Make a simple Freelancer clone with realistic controls and it'd be out in no time. But no, he had to make a fricking reimagining of EVE, a spreadsheet simulator.
Worst of all is we all know why. This way he got to milk morons for over 12 years (and counting). It's insidious, but expected from the pseudo-jew.
SQ42 isn't a spreadsheet simulator, id rather he made that than a call of duty campaign.
I'm not even talking about SQ42, I don't know what the frick that is supposed to be. Call of Duty Future Warfare?
the MMO is vaporware, everyone is going to lose interest once they launch this mediocre slop campaign.
>I don't know what the frick that is supposed to be.
like those old Wing Commander games except with modern graphics.
and a bunch of celebrities in the cutscenes.
>it's like wing commander
>but you spend hours not in a ship lol get fricked no refunds

This is the end of star citizen. Sq42 looked fricking awful.
>bought into the kickstarter in 2013
>spent $250 on an Andromeda?
>downloaded the game twice since and played a total of 10 minutes
Is there actually a game now? Or just individual modules to fart around?
Can I get in my ship and explore space by myself and find shit to do?
It's playable, you can fly around a star system and do a bunch of shit alone or with friends.

>vaporware
>delivers quarterly content updates
>b-b-but muh 1.0 release
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/roadmap/release-view
They're using the Gen12 Vulkan renderer that's in the polish stage.
the MMO is 7-10 years away from a 1.0 release. SQ42 looks shit, nobody is waiting another decade for a game from a mediocre developer.
MMO will soft launch in 2025 with Stanton/Pyro/Nyx. No more wipes.
>Soft launch
So after 15 years of development it will be in early access?
And you are okay with this?
My brother in Christ, are you fricked in the head?
Why wouldn't I be okay with it? I'm already logging in daily and the wipes every 18-24 months are the only thing keeping me from making it my full time game.
I think 2 years for sq42 to release to the public. 7-10 more years for mmo seems very accurate though
>delivers quarterly content updates
You mean quarterly content lies?
Nice updates lol
it's incredible that people like you actually exist
I'm an og backer and stopped paying attention once the first iteration of a game where you could fly a ship launched and you could walk around like 3 space stations and kill some npcs or something.
This looks ok but I'll continue to not give a frick till it launches and I get the email saying it's SQ42 availible.
Looks good but those frame dips are concerning. Starfield's original trailer had those too and it ended up being a poorly optimized mess.
wasn't this supposed to come out in 2016
They remade the game.
everything will have been remade multiple times at this point
which is why you can’t have 10yr dev cycles and you need a publisher cracking the whip
>and you need a publisher cracking the whip
>publishers and middle managers are le good
post nose
Good publishers support devs actually get shit released. They are parents for kids.
Bad ones are too hands off (MS in recent years) or too hands on (some of 2K)
The endless development is a feature, not a bug. It's why we keep funding it. We literally voted for them to continue developing the game instead of wrapping things up to get a 1.0 shipped back in 2017. Until that vote concluded, anyone whoever backed had the ability to refund. Zero sympathy.
you're funding a pyramid scheme but go on and try to convince us that you aren't bro
>pyramid scheme
>no payouts
You mean a product being sold under capitalism? Stop using words you don't mean you stupid fricking homosexual.
>Endless development
>for an unreleased game
Yeah you frickwits just diddled yourselves.

You are playing an actual fricking beta and you will keep playing that fricking beta until Chris Roberts laughs in his grave.
Its not even in beta. The shills would be HAPPY if it was in beta
Jesus Christ how horrifying
You need help. Maybe some people that help the amish or scientologists can save your ass from rapey roberts.
>muh 1.0 release
I literally have money in the game and I. don't. fricking. care. As long as I'm getting updates every 3 months, they could take fifty years. It doesn't matter. I'm playing the game now and it's constantly updated.
>2016
The fps problems are due to hardware not being strong enough!
>2020
The fps problems are due to the servers!
>2023
>Squadron 42 has 10 fps dips
What's the cope this time?
This one cuck is still mad and responding to every new post. That anon was right about this guy lmao
i mean it looks cool, the only thing im worried about is that they'll release squadron42 next year and then take another 4 years or so to finish multiplayer
star citizen will never be finished, but that doesn't mean it will never be playable or never be good
they will simply keep building it forever
>they will simply keep building it forever
Kickstarter backer here, this is exactly what I want. Why would I want something good to have a finite end?
I played runescape for a decade and I loved the time when every update expanded the game and made it better, but the lack of vision meant that it ultimately fricking killed itself and had to start over on a clean slate
star citizen is always moving in the right direction because chris roberts is a maniac with a really good vision
Let the paypigs fund it forever
Their overpowered gear and ships will be worthless and they will be shitting their pants and crying when someone wipes the floor with them while using speedhacks and desync and that will be more than worth it for me.
there's already anticheat and using blatant hacks like that gets you banned permanently, and all the money you put in disappears
>money
Oh yes, anticheat. That'll sure put an end to cheating like it did for [insert game]...
>speedhacks
By the time people bother to cheat in Star Citizen we'll be leveraging AI for anticheat. Especially since it's already a cloud-native game and they're using Amazon's Lumberyard/O3DE.
I think MP probably just needs more fun missions or even a Planetside-esque ""mode"" where you can actually fight over territory.
Wow they completed the shooter campaign no one asked for.
Silky smooth 13fps with satisfying LOD loading stutter and freezes, just like it was in 2016.
Scam Citizen.
I always thought SQ42 was just supposed to be you shooting shit in space with a story, apparently it's a full half life 2 style campaign? It actually looks kinda good but I'm sure the game is going to have shit performance regardless
It's more than that, it's an open world where you can abandon the main quest with Mark Hamill et. al. and go play Privateer/Freelancer to your heart's content.
is it? i thought it was just a CoD campaign with the PU being the sandbox aspect?
i can tell you right now that the multiplayer version of star citizen will be absolutely riddled with cheaters and they won't be able to do jack shit about it.
More like Squadron 42/100
More like Squadron fourty too fricking late
Predict the Metacritic score, I'm guessing 76/100
76/100 for a PC exclusive space sim like this would be awesome.
mald harder
I'll get it on deep discount a couple of years after release

You know you can watch the video right? They literally show you CONTENT and GAMEPLAY
Not going to say I dislike what I see. Because I don't. This is precisely what I was looking for.
They asked you to ANSWER THE CALL for 2016.
Now they are asking you to HOLD THE LINE for 2024.
>that cheesy acting with million dollar stars that doesn't even lip sync
>generic half-life 2 puzzles 20 years later

If it's so generic then why do so few games actually have them?
Only thing he's won lately is probably a pie eating contest.

By the time Star Citizen is in a state I want to play it (another 2-3 years) I'll have plenty of time but right now the kids are 5&7. Gonna have a paid off house too. Life is good man.
I was 16 when I backed. I'm 27 now and expecting my first child with my wife. I felt the weight of time press upon me as I watched the video.
But I held the line.

They literally did the exact same thing back in 2016 Hahahahahaha announced sq42 at citizen con for a release the following year. Holy frick I love Roberts, he's so openly butt fricking the moron pay pigs that bankroll his shit
They didn't announce a release date though.
hahahahahaahah
OH NONONO
They scrapped that version of the game after THE COMMUNITY VOTED TO EXPAND IT. People love to forget to mention that part of the story.
That version of the game was developed on a shoestring budget back when the game was a $2 million kickstarter instead of the $600 million behemoth it is today.
so true! they scraped it all in 2020 too right? only 8 years into dev
Yeah sure "the community voted"...
We literally did. They stopped it themselves while we kept voting yes. This was the final poll at $55 million. They stopped at $60 million.
Q: Should we continue to offer stretch goals? (Total Votes: 34590 - 7% of Citizens, ~14% of alpha backers)
55% - Yes
26% - No
20% - No preference
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals
Yes, all legitimate. No shenanigans here, no sir.
Our lord and savior would never put development over the yacht and doors.
They literally stopped themselves from adding stretch goals at 60 million even though we wanted them to. They've raised $600 million.
Elite Dangerous players moved over to Star Citizen en masse after Odyssey. Turns out "we'll patch in space legs and sell it as an expansion" was a terrible fricking idea. Who could've guessed?
nah ED players just quit altogether moron
Nah man I totally believe you. Why would chrissy ever have a reason to fudge the numbers?
They went to different space games. Some to SC, some to NMS, etc. A bunch actually came back after trying out Starfailed and now that Odyssey is stable
Is it actually stable? Last I heard you need FSR to play Elite Danger Odyssey even on a 4090.
I have a 4080, can I finally land at an outpost and get 60fps?
Works fine on my 3070. The official required/recommended specs are nowhere near adequate but otherwise I have no problems unless the servers are borked.
Interesting I'll give it another shot. Does the game have a future? Anything significant on the horizon or is ED basically EOL after Odyssey? Thanks anon.
They're pumping out the Thargoid stuff like crazy, but not much for any other gameplay loop.
they already fired a shitload of people my dude.
Looked great. Can't wait.
you literally can't wait because it will never come out
>Wing Commander remake in all but name
>8 years late
I'm just here to laugh at the haters. Literally me is in the game. I can't hate it.
Alright ScamCitizenShills, you've convinced me to redownload the game and log in for the first time since 2016. What am I in for, and what do I do to have fun?
Can I have my HOTAS and controller hooked up at the same time and switch between them when it does first person shit?
jokes on you, it still fricking sucks
Frick.
Well at least it can’t be worse than Elite Dangerous
Run bunker missions to earn seed money.
Once you can afford to buy a vulture (1.2million) buy it and do the 1kUEC,5kUEC,and 20kUEC missions once each.
Rent a cargo ship and start doing the 50kUEC (C1 Spirit) salvage missions. Don't bother salvaging the ships that spawn, just loot the cargo via EVA and take it back to town to sell. My brother once made 9million from a salvage run because the wreck spawned with 100 SCU of drugs in the cargo hold.
Kinomotion. It makes Starfield look like a game from 2 gens ago.
Release date?
>Ganker hates this game cause of the scam it bringing
>it bringing out cool tech and the last server meshing proves it, knowing how scam cit works with all it updates, it'll be broken
>game is very slowly being built bit by bit and looks like it's getting to a somewhat playable state
>once it gets to that state more people will play it (by that state i mean a full working industry like eve)
>Ganker still wishes for this game to fail yet while i believe it's a scam, i want it to succeed
>when it does having a playing state i know Ganker will play it
>Ganker will start a pirate group and kill the whales
>make the whales angry cause all the money they've invested into the game, some homosexuals from Ganker is going to blow their shit up just for the lols
Ganker i implore you to reconsider your stance just a little, not saying to give scam cit money, because yes it's a scam for .jpeg but it's seems like this scam is trying to follow through.
don't give them money but make those who did pay suffer when it ''''''does'''''' come out
tbt i can't wait for scam cit to come out
not reading all that shit
stay malding cuck
it is never gonna come out
this is like the 6th time they have said it would
i have a friend who been on scam cit wiener since 2013 who been giving us updates every now and then.
he believes since server meshing basics have been done and implemented into the servers, they can now spread their manpower onto other things since SM was their main focus for all these years.
but i agree with you, still so very long before it comes out
keep up the good work anon, you're doing us proud. o7
I already bully the whales and have done since the game became a hardcore PvP full loot MMO. I steal their exclusive items and ships. They are mine until they come get it back off my corpse. Which they never do since all the whales are carebears b***hing about PvP in a game advertised and designed as a PvP sandbox.
Is it out yet?
it's not a scam, just a well funded hobby
I HELD THE LINE
Where's the fun, Chris? Why does the FPS gameplay look straight out of 2010, Chris?
>Why does the FPS gameplay look straight out of 2010, Chris?
looks fine, look at the most popular FPS shooters right now. CoD stalker looks about the same as those industry standards.
Honestly the games probably still a scam but that looked more fun then any shooter in years, like sci-fi Metro.
wasn't this supposed to come out like 8 years ago?
>stuttering and frame drops in a fricking trailer
It's always been obvious to anyone paying attention that Squadron 42 would be finished and released. Unlike Star Citizen, this is the game Roberts always wanted to make after all. He just needed funding for it, hence scam citizen.
>tech and gameplay mechanics and assets shared between SQ42/Star Citizen
>the more SQ42 develops the further along Star Citizen gets
>Star Citizen will never come out
lmao delusional Star Citizen is just SQ42 with a couple more mechanics like base building and inventory management and more content
It's not like they're lacking content. They're literally withholding content like Pyro and Nyx because server meshing is still a tech roadblock.
>They're literally withholding content like Pyro and Nyx because server meshing is still a tech roadblock.
Okay, why didn't they just add Pyro as a separate server first? That's how they started the alpha, with different locations on different servers. It's because it wasn't done, and was probably a complete shitshow, judging by the parts of Pyro we've already seen.
How much of the game is currently playable? Is it a suitable replacement for Freelancer yet?
Do you like sandbox MMOs? Star Citizen's mechanics already surpass Freelancer's. We only have one star system but that one star system has better gameplay/content than the entirety of Elite Dangerous/Starfield.
Every time I've taken a look at SC it's gameplay is almost exactly like Elite's. You do the same fetch quests, the same combat, it's just packed into a single star system instead of billions.
How do you feel about picking up a box, and then taking that box to another larger box that you put it inside of?
Basically you fly around a single star system.
But you know what I mean with the weird "hands" controls for clicking everything while in FPS mode.
Henry Cavill did it for free and all the other guys are people CR has worked with before.
ha ha ha
its always Germans. why are Germans so often the typical moronic paypig boomer?
Germans are an immeasurably autistic people.
Every German i've met on the internet is insufferable, but the ones i've met in real life tend to be decently friendly if not a little wary of random people. I hate dealing with them online though
Ever dealt with autistic people?
That's what you are describing. I must reiterate, the Germans are all autistic.
What the frick am i looking at have people really made colorvests for fricking star shitizen
>Gamescom 2014
>he'll have a 2024 patch soon and no game
>and he probably doesn't seen an issue with this
lmao
Because there is no problem with this you impatient loser.
I get 60-90FPS in landing zones on a 4090 at 4K. Depending on your resolution you should be fine.
?t=97
The release of an actual product in shambles will frick them over and the snake-oil salesman knows it.
>if jacket gets filled wear a sash
>this was 2017
>these morons are all walking around with vests and like 3 sashes by now
LOL
Weren't they going for some episodic shit? Is this the full release or that?
>all that stuttering
>fricking half life physics puzzles from 2004
man this is going to suck so hard
half life physics puzzles from 2004
But that's a plus.
even in their gameplay videos which I'm sure was taken on the best machine money can buy, their game can't hold a good framerate
but it looks really good and there is a lot happening during fights at least so it's kind of justified, unlike saarfield
The Vulkan renderer isn't finished yet.
Because a separate entry on the main menu is less impressive than the persistent universe. They really wanted to have server meshing implemented so you could do that.
Not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm just posting as an informed individual that has followed the game for a long time and actually played it.
It wasn't mean directly to you, it was more of a general statement. Sorry.
>The most footage they've ever shown
>Bragging about polishing
>Still don't have a release window
I want to be excited, really, however, this constant spiral of trying to make something above the level of fidelity in a Rockstar game without the reality of it-needs-to-come-out-now will continue to kill any interest I have.
If it's so close to ready and will be out "soon", then they need commit to it and finally decide on what the game needs to be, not what they want it to be.
I don't remember the name of the effect, but basically you can trick people so much they know deep down they've been tricked but to admit it would cause massive psychological damage, so instead you get people like OP
don't forget the 10k cappuccino machines for their offices along with the 1 week course in how to operate them complete with instructors LMAO
Would probably cost more than the $10K they spent on the nice one.
see now you just crossed the line and the jig is up. The three people who didn't think you were trolling now know.
You NEVER go full moron.
I'm not going full moron. I work in software development and if an employer had me making my own coffee in a fricking keurig I'd work for another company. This is Valve's cafeteria. They have a Michelin star chef cooking them food and google their snack bar. Gonna seethe about that too?
Valve makes actual products and contributes to the industry.
Star Citizen is a black hole that morons shovel money into to "flex" on their similarly moronic friends.
Shit take. Dumb moron.
If I was working for a company that hadn't released a product in ten years, and they spent 10k on a coffee maker I'd think I was probably working for some kind of scam artist.
It's an investment
Valve isn't crowdfunded through gullible morons. This shit is just plain insidious.
>highly qualified developers don't deserve nice things like a good, reliable coffee machine with an included service plan
Yeah, they should just buy a hundred Keurigs that break because 700+ people are using it, right?
You're whining about a $10K purchase (smart decision for anyone who has ever done purchasing for an office tbqh) from a studio that has crowdfunded $600 million. Even backers don't give a frick so shut up with your disingenuous bullshit already.
>Even backers don't give a frick so shut up with your disingenuous bullshit already.
Backers don't give a frick about anything, moron, especially quality or honesty from CIG. That's why we're laughing at you.
I don't expect a bunch of neets that got fired from their job flipping burgers to understand what work culture is like in software development. Fool's errand. Let morons be morons.
And how does this door fit into the work-culture equation?
It's used as a set to promote the game. Again, what are they supposed to do? Buy a $10 webcam off Amazon and call it a day?
Good call. You actually unlock the best solo fighter in the game upon completion of SQ42 in Star Citizen.
Promote the game to who? The fricking devs working on it?
They livestream five times a week. Not surprised if you didn't know that. You c**ts never know shit about any of the games you're constantly posting about. You guys are like Ganker but much dumber.
So they couldn't put fake doors on a wall because they need to do it in front of the entrance. I understand. They suffer from worse moronation than you even.
I shouldn't expect a paypiggie to understand that 10k is too much for a coffee machine, so I don't know why i'm surprised.
>Valve isn't crowdfunded through gullible morons.
Have you seen the Dota 2 compendiums?
I forgot Valve even had any games.
sunk cost fallacy?
Did they actually release a game that you can purchase and play?
Or is this "answer the call 2016" all over again?
>Or is this "answer the call 2016" all over again?
It's literally the exact same situation as 2016, beat-for-beat.
"Backers will have everything they could ever want soon"
"We plan to fully fulfill all promises within the next year"
"The roadmap is set in stone this time"
post em
I just play during free flights lol
kinda based
Do you plan on buying in once server meshing is implemented or Vulkan improves performance? Unsolicited advice: Don't spend more than the absolute minimum. You'll earn everything in game.
>You'll earn everything in game.
This is turning into a gacha-level scam.
I want to get Squadron 42 first, if it's good I'll get SC.
Bought a Carrack and a 315p both with lifetime insurance in 2014
>yfw you successfully drag a single video game along for 13 years making literal hundreds of millions of dollars for yourself AND your wife AND your brother
this is a joke right
Anon...
At least cloth shaders looks cool. Who the frick wants to virtually shower?
>frank herbert invented cloth
That's not the point. The aesthetic is clearly inspired by Dune. In Dune they wear lots of cloaks and shit.
>There's sandworms (taken out of the game until they get AI working better
>she believes the sandworms were real
L M A O
you've got to be baiting, there's no way
Prediction: sand worm will be reimplemented within 18 months of server meshing being introduced to the game.
>taken out of the game until they get AI working better/maelstrom destruction physics reimplemented)
No? A sandworm in a scripted trailer from years ago doesn't mean the setting is Dune-inspired.
>that silky smooth 15 fps gameplay
I know the Spider Verse style was influential but let's keep it out of vidya, please.
>low karma
Stopped reading there
>7 years were wasted to make this CoD looking bullshit
redditors thinking they served a 6 year tour in afghanistan for buying ship JPEGs
To be fair, literally everyone who backed the game was vindicated in the last 48 hours.
>cloth physics in a game inspired by Dune where they wear lots of cloth like cloaks and shit is le bad
moron
How in the frick is Star Citizen inspired by Dune? And what does that have to do with justifying "wrinkle simulation"
StarCloth(tm) isn't doing anything basically every game has been doing for the last 5-10 years.
In fact, the current state of the art is far beyond what they've shown.
>inspired by Dune
How, exactly? There's not really much of anything in Star Citizen that I'd consider Dune like.
Stanton is controlled by the UEE where it's more civilized but other systems will be controlled by warring houses.
>They literally put a sand worm in an old trailer that people meme on to this day
that was 7 years ago btw
Ten years is sometimes too long for me to comprehend how shitty the development's been. Seven years would be considered a long development cycle for an entire game, and yet they can't fix a single enemy/encounter design.
companies usually start with small games and build up their studio over 10 years before they can make anything decent
CIG wanted to make the big game straight away, so it takes a lot longer
Absolute clowns.
>informed on subject of game development
>Y-Y-YOU'RE A CLOWN
What's the fricking rush anyways? Game's been running as a live service getting updates every 3 months for the past five years.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/roadmap/release-view
Please tell me which games have taken 10-15 years of development time. Sq42 is single-player, by the way. Also why did you link your shitty roadmap? It's full of lies and exaggerations, it's meaningless.
None because they're all beholden to publishers. Why would I rush the one exception to that other than my own stupid impatience?
>the one exception
Do you think CIG is the only company that self publishes, anon?
What other company has CIG's $600 million?
No company because those companies sell products, not hopes and dreams.
So why are you rushing the one company that is promising and actually delivering those hopes and dreams you impatient homosexual?
Because they aren't delivering my poor in-too-deep friend. They will find another excuse to delay because they know that the release will kill the cashcow.
People pay more for dreams in the aether than a game with no players. You can't see it because the copium has fogged up your glasses.
>actually delivering
LMAO
>muh scam
>muh 10 years
>cultists
>You're not laughing at me, you're actually mad on the inside for some reason.
What am I supposed to be mad about, exactly?
>mindbroken whales waste thousands of dollars on pictures of ships that will never exist
>laughing at mindbroken whales that wasted thousands of dollars on pictures of ships is completely free
why am I mad?
>pictures of ships that will never exist
Why are you guys so hung up on concept ships? There's 127 ships in the game. If you bought a concept, they gave you an alternate in the meantime to use.
Also nice strawman, I'm playing the game on a $37 pledge and I'm flying a ship "worth" $260 that I earned in about a day or two of bounty hunting.
this isn't NFTs buddy. It aint worth shit.
I bet you 'play' star atlas.
Is this another scam you have fallen into?
Goddamn it anon, at some point I am going to find you and sell you the brooklyn bridge.
I have some standards they aren't high but they exist!
Regardless of how you feel about SC the bag pipes sounds fricking amazing
>s-s-s-s-s-stop laughing at me my $2000 picture of a ship is WORTH something!
lol
lmao even
To start with the 600 million isn't just sitting around at CIG, Most of that money's already been used up. They need to pay for their doors and espresso machines after all. That being said, FromSoftware's probably got that, if not more just from Elden Ring, even with the outside of japan cut their partners took. Larian, too, has made that almost only from Steam sales of BG3.
Their financials show hundreds of millions in cash reserves.
Plenty of devs make games without publishers, are you being deliberately obtuse? CIG's development hell is not indicative of success, it's the opposite. They've been working on server meshing for close to a decade and even now, the scripted showcase they put out has bugs and stutters.
So they're working on something that is technologically unprecedented and you're using it as ammunition against the game because it's taking too long. Star Citizen should be more like AAA slop I guess is what you're saying.
>muh 10 years
In 10 years time you are going to say
>muh 20 years
When you are in an old folks home you are going to say
>muh 50 years
Yes. why would I care if I am getting updates to a live game every 3 months? I hope the game is still being updated every 3 months in 50 years.
Unironically.
People aren't even going to try it if it doesn't release and instead stays in its perpetual alpha stage. What a fun way to enjoy an MMO.
They're working on something they're not even close to finishing, their own showcase proves that.
Restarting multiple parts of the game's development is indicative of a colossal failure somewhere along the line.
>Restarting multiple parts of the game's development
every game does this, it's not 2001 any more
Not every game takes fifteen years to make. They also typically scrap game features and move on, not scrap and restart over and over. They also don't usually outsource a whole game feature to another studio then scrap that too once it's done. Are you really trying to say CIG's development process has been anywhere close to normal?
It's similar to the construction business in a way. When the public pays for it nobody gives a shit. Waste galore, broken scaffolding, not a single frick given. It's paid for by the infinite pockets of the state.
>They also typically scrap game features and move on, not scrap and restart over and over.
no, they scrap and restart over and over at the AAA studios because they have the resources to do it
When that happens it's called development hell, it's not normal
>raising $600 million is not a sign of success
I want whatever it is you're smoking
>Please tell me which games have taken 10-15 years of development time.
Starfield took 8 years with a full experienced studio, more if you count concept lore and art, and the best they could do is a loading-screen riddled Fallout space mod.
Throne and Liberty, an MMO by NCSoft, has been in development since at least 2011 (that's when it was announced, most likely started dev earlier) and is releasing in a few months in Korea. So 12+ years for that.
Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, RDR2, pretty much all big AAA projects that are not part of conveyer belt productions like CoD or AssCreed.
Those games were concepts on a drawing board for the majority of their "dev time" and the companies released games in the mean time. It's not remotely the same thing.
SC was a concept on a drawing board for most of its dev time too. They started with 12 devs and a CryEngine back in 2011.
The first module was in 2013 you liar.
you're an actual smoothbrain if you don't understand that companies are meant to start out small
CIG starting big was a huge risk and it still hasn't paid off yet, but it's looking closer
>still hasn't paid off
Well for some it has. If you are a poor frick wanting to play vidya then you are going to have to wait another decade.
You act like Chris Roberts has never made a game before. I haven't seen anything about squadron 42 that justifies 10+ years
it was a new company you fricking dipshit, you don't start a new company with all the employees there and skilled up with what they need to be
You are acting as if they announced call of citizens at the same time as star citizen.
You realize they were showcasing content for the game in 2012/2013, right? They're taking forever because they're incompetent, and also restarted multiple aspects of the game. It has little at all to do with being a new company.
Wanting them to actually deliver a product or stick to the roadmaps THEY MADE is not rushing.
Jesus fricking christ this is exactly like shitcoin scams
>HODL KEKIZENS
Well, kinda. These morons ITT believe in Scam Shitzen though but most of Ganker is just having a laugh at pink and green wojaks
Well the shitcoin shenanigans on Ganker at least served a purpose. Scamming people so I could go full /k/ommando for one.
This on the other hand, there are no winners, no GMI. Just a bunch of sad shits carrying Chris Roberts bags with no way cutting losses.
I'll believe the game is coming out on release day.
I rented Wing Commander on the SNES as a kid one time.
I've already played more of Chris Robert's space video games than these morons who have spent 4k and shit lmao
Two more weeks, trust the plan Chrisbros! WWG1WG@
The future is Chris Roberts:
By feature complete they mean they finally decided on the set of features SQ42 will have, now they actually have to make the game LOL
Feels liberating man.
how will Gankerirgins ever recover?
>out of feature phase
>into polishing phase
Bros...it's finally happening
I've been pledged since 2013 when I was in middle school
I'm actually impressed, but I'll have to see more footage before I commit to what will probably be Robert wanking himself in the story.
Reminder that this is a side project they promised to release a long time ago.
Until these homosexuals release the main space exploration game, it's still is the Scam Citizen.
You can cope all you want.
It's the prologue to get you invested in the MMO's lore spun off into a full AAA production.
>Until these homosexuals release the main space exploration game, it's still is the Scam Citizen.
>You can cope all you want.
Just ignore the massive leaps on every front they've made the past few years or the fact that you do have an actual game you can play right now, albeit a buggy one.
>an actual game you can play right now
I sure love moving a single box at a time.
>I sure love moving a single box at a time.
Cute response, if you said something so cute to me in real life you'd have a different tone and not a smug grin on your face.
Try again.
pic is me, I'm even more badass because I'm not Chris Roberts personal wienerslave.
a lot of important features were made for SQ42 first and are then adapted for Star Citizen
My Wife!
Hope you're okay with sharing because she's mine too.
7-8 years is the production schedule for a generic fantasy MMO where you kill boars, skin them and turn them in for XP with a firm budget in place and an established studio. 10-15 years for Star Citizen+SQ42 is fine contrary to belief.
Liked it when sodomy was punished by death.
>10 years to shit out a half assed rogue squadron game
If this ever releases and is actually good I'll get to play it the same way the people who have sunk incredible amounts of time and money into this. If it never releases or comes out bad I'll have lost nothing.
After Cyberpunk was unfricked (and it was also developed over 10 years, including the 3 years for 2.0), I can believe this will turn out fine if they won't just stop and force the release too soon.
forcing release is not in Chris Roberts' vocabulary
they would delay the game even when finished
And that's a good thing. I wish Chris Roberts had this kind of money back in 2000 to prevent Freelancer from being butchered.
Well then we'd be having the exact same posts we are having now but with Freelancer as the title instead of Star Citizen.
Freelancer would still be in production today if Roberts had his way.
Unfortunately Chris has personally fricked you in the skull so hard that can comprehend such a thing. In your mind they are identical.
We were always at war with Eurasia, big brother said so.
I don't care about "release". The alpha with only one star system in it is already the best space game right now and it only gets better and better every 3 months.
Apparently it's so fricking good you would rather spend 6 hours defending it than play the piece of shit.
I agree with that at least, this thread is more fun than star citizen ever could be.
I literally just played it with my org last night between alt tabbing to reply to people in the rare Ganker thread about it.
With all the money he had from SC (+ time), he could've produced and released at least 4 AA Freelancer games.
Iterative sequels are lame. I'd rather have one constantly updated game.
Star Citizen would constantly be in the top 50 most played games on Steam charts if it were on Steam. Seems to be doing fine.
I don't care whether it's early access or 1.0
Warframe is still technically in beta. Didn't stop me from putting 1500 hours into it.
You don't seem to understand, anon.
There wouldn't be anything for you to play. There wouldn't be early access. You would subsist on screenshots.
Literally copying eve online lmao.
Good artists copy great artists steal
You tell me. What am I supposed to be mad about? I was just 100% vindicated over the past 48 hours.
I'm talking about Pyro being released to PTU testers (me) on the 31st and all the cool shit that's coming to Star Citizen over the course of the next year.
>next 10 years
fixed that for you.
The game is obviously not vaporware anymore. Who fricking cares if a bunch of whales paid gorillions for JPEGs? It doesn't look dated, and we all know space sims have been lacking in blockbuster games.
I'm crying...I can't believe it's finally happening, it's been such a long journey.
>soon the actual pyramids will have taken less time to build than scamcitizen
lmao
I see they have their 42nd anniversary logo ready.
What was his name again?
Alpha One Dash One
Is there anything that releasing soon from citizen con?, Sure those looks cool but I have only broken shity 3.0 something game on my hand so it's not really exciting at all.
>massively multiplayer
I'm not playing this nonsense. I play games for fun by myself
Squadron 42 is singleplayer.
complete knock off of battlestar galactica without any of the charm of good aesthetics.
God the ship designs in this are just abominations.
Stop making this shit thread and have a nice day fricking cultist.
cry about it you literal cuck
I might actually buy it just for squadron 42 when it comes out in 2034
that one level in halo reach where you go into a spaceship and fight the covenant in space is more iconic and interesting than anything in this entire nearly 30 minute trailer of extremely generic space combat and FPS combat where nothing interesting is shown.
Which is worse? The Hopium SC/Sq42 fans huff, or the Copium 'it'll be fixed by mods' fans huff?
the mod guys can at least point towards old bethesda games getting a lot of mod support, so there is something there. Even though I'm not convinced Starfield will receive the same amount of mod love.
That assumes people give enough of a shit TO Mod starfield
Not sure we have a date on mod tools yet but Starfield has less than double the number of players Skyrim does atm.
Starfield will be no different. People have already started making Star Wars conversion mods without the CK
Modders can literally create large hubs for major cities, like say mos eisley, or kashyyyk and the game would improve 1000%
>but it’s not that buggy for a BGS game
Low bar
>You can build your own ship, board other ships and fight in zero G.
The issue is that the starship combat is no better than something like Elite, and the FPS combat is reheated fallout 3
It's literally fallout 3 shooting. They've changed absolutely nothing about the the way the combat or the guns work, including the AI
It literally isn’t though. You can see how fallout 4 improved on the gunplay from 3. You can see how starfield improved on the gunplay from fallout 4. There’s a clear progression. Starfield definitely went way fricking backwards in regards to melee combat though
>and it’s actually a full, finished game
Sure doesn't feel that way
Vanduul are very cool
How many people have died waiting for this game to come out?
Restarting development on a $20 million dollar game because you now have hundreds of millions of dollars is understandable and quite normal.
It is understandable (because it makes them even more money) but not normal (because in most of the industry, being a decade overdue for the release of a game would result in the company being dissolved)
Most of the industry isn't independent.
>The bones of a great soace game are there
No it isn't lmao I can count the number of times I actually flew my ship on two hands in a 100 hour playthrough. The space/sci-fi elements are superficial at best.
Star Marine was scrapped after they already had all that money.
Go lookup Illfonic. External contractor that lied and completely fricked up. They were making assets at the wrong scale for like 6 months.
So? That doesn't change the fact that it was the definition of development hell. Also
>Outsourcing to Illfonic
They dug their own grave with that one, I don't know what they were thinking. And a quick Google search says the scale issue was found in 2013, and they let Illfonic keep working on it for another two years before canceling it.
>I don't know what they were thinking.
They knew Cryengine. The real question is: why do this in FRICKING Cryengine?
All shitposting aside, they outsourced the fps gameplay to the company that made Nekuiz, that's just indefensible.
>CIG has done a good job at that so far
The task was so completely impossible that even 9 years overdue, the game still does not function as an MMO
imagine a single player Elder scrolls/Warcraft/Warhammer etc game that covers the entirety of their respective planets at scale.
A concept that's as technically preposterous as it is moronic from a game design perspective.
And yet you'll b***h about games all being the same shit. Face it Ganker only cares about safe shit like getting their madden fix every year rather than games that actually try something
>rather than games that actually try something
Star Citizen doesn't "try something", it tries to be fricking everything, while having no creative identity of its own
ok
when I played Freelancer, I wished I could explore the towns/place/station on foot and have shootouts like the cutscenes, we all know Freelancer had to be cut short on features
SC is that, exactly what I have been wanting since 2005
cryengine was considered black magic, still kind of is
see ryse son of rome, neon noir
real-time reflections that ran well on a GTX 1080 without raytracing hardware
>star citizen
>NO BUT LISTEN WE SPLIT THIS PART OF THE GAME BECAUSE UHHHHH
lol
lmao
It's because they genuinely expected to get this part out because it's a single player FPS and thus should actually be easy to make in cryengine, but it still took years and years because the devs are even lazier and more incompetent than bethesda
I will say, the lighting and overall graphics are extremely impressive, some of the best I've ever seen honestly. That said, I'm still not interested in this at all as the gameplay looks extremely generic.
>space game
>look at all these cool things you don't do in space
lol
so if star citizen isnt good or fun yet, what makes people think this offshoot will be any different?
You're ignoring literally everything they showed about movement/interactions/UX/flight/on ground combat changing over the next year.
Everything you see in that trailer in moment to moment gameplay is coming to Star Citizen.
>is coming to Star Citizen
in about 20 years and they'll charge 3k USD for it
LOL
LMAO
Is that before or after USD inflation of 20 years?
before
shut the frick up and get a room you obnoxious homosexuals. funny how you guys strawman the frick out of this game meanwhile I've only spent the minimum and enjoyed myself thoroughly
>they'll charge 3k USD
why?
I'm never buying scamcitizen. Never pledged back when it was kickstarter, never buying it ever.
Millions upon millions upon millions of dollars and a decade with barely anything to show.
I did enjoy some schadenfreude when I saw their shitty team fighting FPS game which they scrapped as well as the scamcitizen streamer streaming racing ships.
>still nothing after 35 years and 800 billion shekels
lol
Actually 1 shekel is only worth a quarter so it's more like 2.4 billion shekels
>he didn’t buy the legatus pack
Lmaoing at your life
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Legatus-2952
>Ahead of all others,
>Not above all others
I mean relatively speaking the Javelin is basically fodder. The UEE is pretty god damned industrious just look at Synthworld
This is what you choose to nitpick on? The biggest tank designed in WWII is named Mouse (Maus). Take your autism meds before you look up the Rat land cruiser.
It was called Mouse because of "irony" homosexual anyway nothing can beat "Dreadnought" to this day, even Russian doesn`t translate this word and use it as it is.
why would anyone buy this for a SP game? is this for the MMO? do you lose them when the explode in-game?
>TFW my brother is Praetorian tier and mostly just spends every wipe starting in a Cutlass Black and grinding to buy ships he already owns on a separate account.
But…why??
The big ships aren't fun to fly unless he has other people online to fill out the crew.
Also he's one of those people who likes to figure out non-glitch exploits in games like missions that pay too much for minimal effort.
When we were teenagers he'd play SimCity2000 over and over trying to absolutely maximize happiness and tax revenue.
Think he's beaten every X-com except Enforcer on max difficulty at least once.
I can't wait for the SEETHE when all the fud and doomposters on Gankereddit who have mocked this game endlessly get their shit pushed in when they play it by players who have put more time into learning the gameplay and controls
>endlessly get their shit pushed in […] by players who have put more MONEY into the P2W game
FTFY
It's really not pay2win. You'll have a jack-of-all-trades ship within the first couple hours of playing the game and that ship (Avenger Titan/Arrow) competes with ships "worth" hundreds of dollars and those ships will get you millions of credits to buy the best in class ships in each respective profession.
Calling it pay2win is moronic when anyone who plays the game past the first couple days will be in the same situation against people who bought the minimum and advanced through the intended progression path. A new player isn't gonna be PvPing anyways so who gives a frick.
