I like XIII but the game is just set piece hallways with no way to return to most areas except for Grand Pulse, which contains 90% of the optional content and you only can do like 10% of it the first time you visit it, and you don't visit it the second time until the game is almost done.

Personally I rate XIII-2 pretty high. It's not an objectively great game but I had a lot of fun with it. Fun male and female main characters with a dynamic that doesn't devolve into romance shit, good villain and I have a hard on for time travel no matter how bad so I'm willing to look past that it was mostly just an excuse to reuse the same areas multiple times. I also really enjoyed the music, even the dumb meme shit like that one Chocobo track.
13-2 was a good game. Its just a shame that it came after the abortion that was 13. Its light hearted but still serious, villian has reasonable goals on why he is doing the things that he does. The music is actually lowkey amongst some of the best. Its all catchy and enjoyable. Gameplay is still kinda iffy, but FF was always fairly casual. Atleast the monsters encourage paradigm swaps and setups. Playing dressup was nice. Putty stupid crowns or bows on monsters was fun in a dorky kind of way. It could have been a lot worse.

1.The Party’s crystal stasis after defeating Orphan.
2.Fang and Vanille’s sacrifice.
3.Etro’s assistance in building the foundation of the Crystal Pillar. Basically, because Fang and Vanille showed how they were willing to sacrifice themselves to save humanity, Etro was moved to lend them a hand by creating pillar's foundation. The water pillar stemmed from Gran Pulse was not caused by Ragnarok’s power (see the last cutscene).
It's up to you to decide whether it was good or not.
The worst aspect of XIII-2 was not making Noel and Serah end up together. They look really cute and their chemistry was great. Snow getting cucked would have been just a bonus.

XIII's ending is not a full Deux Ex Machina ending but it still has element of Etro's Interventions. The 3 pieces that produced what is referred to as a "Miracle" in the game were:
1.The Party’s crystal stasis after defeating Orphan.
2.Fang and Vanille’s sacrifice.
3.Etro’s assistance in building the foundation of the Crystal Pillar. Basically, because Fang and Vanille showed how they were willing to sacrifice themselves to save humanity, Etro was moved to lend them a hand by creating pillar's foundation. The water pillar stemmed from Gran Pulse was not caused by Ragnarok’s power (see the last cutscene).
It's up to you to decide whether it was good or not.

The worst aspect of XIII-2 was not making Noel and Serah end up together. They look really cute and their chemistry was great. Snow getting cucked would have been just a bonus.

Masashi Hamauzu and Yoko Shimomura collaboration would've crafted one hell of a soundtrack.
All of this would've allowed Nomura to implement his concepts, character designs (with Ferrari contributing as well), story elements, gameplay ideas.
