It's unironically a better game than 16 both as an RPG (much deeper character building options) and as an action game (enemies are actually dangerous and do damage to you, you need to learn to use your tools properly to survive).
Jack is also a better protagonist than Clive, even though I think Clive is not bad himself.
Its main disadvantage when compared with 16 is that it was made on a tiny budget and looks like PS2 game while running like shit.
If they made a game with SoP's gameplay and the budget, care and polish they put into 16, it would have been an easy GotY. Perhaps even GotD.
No none of the content in SoP feels like filler and the RPG elements are fantastic. I was close to using journo accessories to hold a through the mooks between bosses in XVI so I that I could watch anime instead
I have nothing to apologize for. I was with Jack from the very first day to now. Though I will say I am sorry for how ignorant people are about how incredible his game is, and how people seek to weaponize it disingenuously.
Is SoP actually any fun? I haven't played any modern FFs but I have an extreme love of FF1's setting so I'd be down to play a decent hack n slash in that world.
if you understand that it's shovelware goyslop, yes. You're not actually in ff1 setting for the most part either. It's an anniversary game so you go through a different area of each #ed game.
I haven't played any modern FFs either and I loved it. It's a prequel to 1 with its overall setting and characters while also having each level take place in a location from a main numbered FF. Gameplay is a good mixture of Nioh and FF mechanics, Job system integration being the best aspect I'd say.
Each job has its own distinct ability, be it a special attack, list of spells, mechanic or buff, as well as determining what weapons you can use while giving special modifiers to the combo abilities you use with said weapons. You equip two jobs at once which you can freely swap between at any moment, and there's even a special mechanic which lets you cancel abilities with a job swap to further combo their different abilities and moves that you've got set up. Each one also has its own little skill tree which is how you unlock more jobs and abilities which are mixed and matched regardless of job. There's also a gear system called Job Affinity where essentially each job has a set bonus with multiple effects associated with it which you can combine multiple of with different jobs to define your own build and find unique synergies with. For example, Red Mage Job Affinity 250% bonus speeds up charge times which works well with spells, but this applies to all attacks that charge up so you can get this while using an axe on a job that uses them, which is based around heavy hitting charged attacks.
DMC is barely about memorization at all, I don't think you've ever played it. But regardless, SoP has much less actions at once and less input complexity compared to DMC and as an action game draws more from its developer's experience with Ninja Gaiden and Nioh and retains the soul of them, though the game plays quite differently and is more original and distinct than anyone here will give it credit for or comprehend. There's an extremely wide variety of ways you can approach and play it, and while it offers a grand amount of combat depth to allow great combo potential, you can just as well take the approach I mentioned and focus on raw damage and destroy things in a few well timed blows, or keep your distance and blow things up with magic.
I dropped it after like 20 hours of forcing myself. If you liked Nioh 2 a LOT, then you'll most likely hate SoP. It's a mediocre game but like they other guy said, if you come in with the expectation of shovelware, then it can be enjoyable.
Hope you like it.
I like Nioh 2 more than anyone else on this board. I really like SoP too.

That sounds better. I'll give it a try if I can catch it on sale. FF5 style multiclassing is fricking breasts.

Nonsensical thing to say because such a thing shouldn't make a difference to you and if there's more you could just not use them, but nonetheless I hope you enjoy the game. It really is an awesome take on bringing the job system to an action game.

I don't like action mixed into my JRPGs. DMC can stay DMC, I don't want some crossbreed game like KH or most modern FFs where all actual character building boils down into combo strings for damage numbers.
The system as you described it sounds like it strikes a pretty delicate balance and I like what I've seen of Nioh 2, which is why I said it sounded better when described that way.
It's extremely fun. Very well made action game with a huge emphasis on depth and variety of approaches, the intention being for you to enjoy trying out the many different options and keep improving at the game and play it in all kinds of ways. While it's predominately based on FF1 it's a love letter to the entire series as a whole. The first difficulty even on Hard isn't extremely challenging but the systems are there to entice you into learning more and getting into the later content.

For what lol? Ganker shilling was useless, strangers of shit is a flop. jackchud is forced af. So bad its good le kill chaos xd
The people shouting "Barry" are either overzealous morons that don't actually know who they're talking about, or they're the guy himself trying badly to make the thread about himself.
When I first saw the trailer I knew it would be better than 16. SoP trailer was full of SOUL and genuineness while 16 was boring ass wannabe GoT shit. moronic eceleb homosexuals shat on this game's trailer though while praising the normie slop that was 16.
I never doubted Jack's strength. FFXVI is good, but it's absolutely no match for Jack's game
nice falseflag, Barry

you ain't even trying to hide that this is a falseflag thread, Barry

hold a button and get through the mook*

I'm sorry for jacking off to you.

I have nothing to apologize for. I was with Jack from the very first day to now. Though I will say I am sorry for how ignorant people are about how incredible his game is, and how people seek to weaponize it disingenuously.
I always respected Jack’s strength. Jackbros and Clivechads are brothers.

How is the job system integrated?
two different gear/skill sets you can switch on the fly in stages
Each job has its own distinct ability, be it a special attack, list of spells, mechanic or buff, as well as determining what weapons you can use while giving special modifiers to the combo abilities you use with said weapons. You equip two jobs at once which you can freely swap between at any moment, and there's even a special mechanic which lets you cancel abilities with a job swap to further combo their different abilities and moves that you've got set up. That sounds like really tedious DMC combo memorization

do you like Nioh?

Yeah, it's a good game
Yes, it's genuinely excellent. The job system is very well done and the game-play is done by an experienced action dev.
>is very well done and the game-play is done by an experienced action dev.
isn't it just the Nioh team?
Yes it's Team Ninja and they're experienced.
I'm sorry for playing your game for an unhealthy amount of time.
I'm generally not big on FF but I liked it a lot
Why? I enjoyed both Jack and Clive’s games
I respect Jack's strength
>Garland goes from literally who knock down homosexual to Jack Kino in just a year after doing nothing for 30+
H-how?
I love SoP. I respect Jack's strength.
WE'RE HERE TO KILL BARRY
Probably the ugliest looking game I've ever played

For what lol? Ganker shilling was useless, strangers of shit is a flop. jackchud is forced af. So bad its good le kill chaos xd
>strangers of shit is a flop
Hence why you should apologise dumb ass
No need. It was a good Nioh clone and it didn't bore me to death like XVI
>Played it
>It wasn't that great as it was shilled to be
Never
The people shouting "Barry" are either overzealous morons that don't actually know who they're talking about, or they're the guy himself trying badly to make the thread about himself.
Either way he should kill himself
