Ar nosurge

>make followup to cult classic Ar tonelico
>make the first game in the new series an episodic visual novel on the PS Vita
>make the sequel, which you can't even understand without playing the first game, a completely different normal RPG on the PS3 while the previous game is Vita-only and not even finished yet
>sales too low for more games to be made
I will never stop being upset

    Ciel Nosurge translation patch never :_;

It is happening, but the main translator has already bought tickets to troon town.

Fricker is posting about 'inclusivity' for a damn wife Tamagotchi.

I don't get it. Is there some checkpoint on the path to learning Japanese that turns you into a troony who wants to insert garbage into a translation? Is it like some skill check where either you pass and carry on or fail and go down this route instead?

I don't know anything about the situation over there, but Ciel is an obscure 12 year old game. Of the people who actually give a shit about it, 90% have already learned Japanese and played it. The remaining 10% are probably clustered in some discord circlejerk becoming increasingly detached from reality.

The more nerdy niche interests the closer you get to trooning out. It's just how it be these days.

Why can't Gust make more? Use the Ryza money to make a new series in a new setting on all platforms so nobody gets left behind by weird business decisions this time.

I don't think Akira Tsuchiya is still with Gust and he was the brains of Surge Concerto.

        Anonymous

He is, he's always on Gust's streams for whatever their latest product is. He's just not a producer anymore for anything since Trinary. Not sure if he wants to make more games or not, maybe he's just getting old and wants to chill.

It's not likely to happen without Tsuchiya and he hasn't led a project for a while. IIRC, Okumura (the big Atelier boss back then) was his co-director on Ar Tonelico and his backup was how they convinced Koei to approve Ciel nosurge to begin with.

At least the segment where they travel to Sol Ciel and visit the first tower while it's still under construction, and the design of the tower is autistically matched to how it should appear in the era in the timeline when this takes place was cool.

Loved the final boss theme and howntgeboalnet was being created on the middle of the fight. Barely recall any of tge plot but I did enjoy the game since I don't have Steph negative opinions of it. I did feel like some content was removed though

The best part is nisa pretending you didn't have to play Ciel to play the sequel...when the entire fricking sequel relies on the player knowing what happened in Ciel

Yeah I was confused as frick when I played. I think there's was google doc or a pastebin with a summary that I found on /jp/ of all places

      >"You don't need to play Ciel to play Ar!"
      >every single important character is a returning character from Ciel
      >the story picks up right from where Ciel left off
Feels bad to see such a great series sink from bad business decisions

So you homies are going to post Songs or not? It's been a long time since I've seen a thread about this so let's develop it

      ?si=alM1-uwR_cQpU0Ef

There are some songs I can't de-couple from the battles they happen in, so if I want to listen to them I look up someone's playthrough of it so I can hear the battle grunts and lines that complete the feeling. Like I wanted to listen to CIEL_N_PROTECTA now so

Actually I'm reminded of one thing I disliked about Ar that wasn't budget or business related, I thought the S&M system was moronic. Cass would sound like a masobawd or Ion would sound like a dominatrix in battle and then you leave battle and they sound completely normal, it broke my immersion hard. I would have liked an option to just not use their S&M voices and be able to set it to whichever you liked.

They should have atleast done an abridged prologue chapter or some shit like Radical Dreamers that condense down the first parts important events you need to know.

It was a good game, a solid 8.5/10 with some flaws but overall good, but you were failed on various fronts by people who didn't prepare you properly for it, so I can't blame you for thinking it sucked.

Neat game. Played it on PS3 way back. Didn't realize it was a sequel to some Vita only pseudo VN. Was surprised at just how expansive it was. It looks like it's going to be some low budget fanservice JRPG but the setting and plot was some scifi epic about creating a new planet or something.

I started with Ar NoSurge and you don't need to play Ciel at all.

I dropped the game in I think close to the end of chapter 3, or partway into Chapter 4, fricking hated Ion. I liked the rest of the cast, but Ion got the most screentime.

      Anonymous

Ion has what I think of as 'naive main character syndrome' that a lot of characters have, where they're realistically wrong, but the plot protects them and 'makes' them right. This isn't the plot but this is the basic format of the syndrome which appears in all kinds of games:
      >there is a calamity that will wipe out 100% of mankind of not stopped
      >the antagonist has a plan which will save 80% of people and has a 99% chance of working
      >the protagonist insists that NOBODY should die and instead fights the antagonist to execute a plan that can save everyone but only has a 1% chance of working
Now, if you're an outsider and these people aren't 'protagonist' and 'antagonist' to you, then the person with the 99% chance to save 80% of humanity is obviously the right person to put your hopes on. But it's a game and the protagonist has plot armor, so they end up being right and the reasonable person is the villain. Many such cases.

Gust and KT are absolute morons for not bringing over the Switch version at the current height of the jrpg Switch era.
They literally stealth released the game on Vita and then wondered why so few people in EN bought it and right at the dawn of Sony California’s takeover.

The whole thing was botched beyond repair even in Japan the moment they released Ar on a different console before Ciel was even finished. Even in Japan Ar was filled with reviews of people giving it low scores because "I don't know what the frick is going on in the story or what any of this is about" from not playing Ciel. Now how many English speakers do you think would actually buy Ciel nosurge years after its first release, on the Switch, with no dub (yes, plebs do care about that)? Almost certainly not enough for them to break even.

Actually, wasn’t the Switch version a combined bundle of both games? That’d have helped immensely

          Anonymous

Very few people are going to be willing to drop $80~100 for two niche JRPGs besides fans.

Besides KT has pretty much washed their hands of the series after releasing that $1000 edition of the game to milk the remaining diehard fans.

If there's one thing you can say about Tsuchiya's games' fanbase it's that they make up for their small numbers with their passion. Every year Gust still puts up new goods for Ciel/Ar nosurge and Trinary. I still have my Trinary fanbook: https://shop.koeitecmo.com/products/detail/6004
I never sprung for any of the insanely expensive things they put out for fans though, like $500~$1000 USD price range customized products
Check the popularity rankings by the way. #1 Sophie, #2 Sophie, #3 Ion, #4 Ciel nosurge

I love Ar nosurge though, and I'm upset that it didn't get the treatment it deserved. Imagine if it released on the same console as Ciel nosurge, after Ciel nosurge was finished releasing its episodic content. Imagine if it made enough money to keep spawning more song magic games. We were robbed.

for real. the ending of Ar is both bittersweet and tragic. I never felt anything like that before, or after. In a sense, it's fitting for the series to end like that, don't you think?

I didn't expect it from a game I bought on a whym for 20€. I saved myself from not understanding shit after a quick look at Wikipedia.

They really should release 1,2,3 bundle for people who can't be fricked with emulators. Especially 3 is a pain if you want to play it these days

I would never play ar tonelico 2 without emulating it again. It requires some patches to fix some bad bugs in the game, one that can crash and corrupt memorycards. Plus Japanese dubs patch.
