Plus, he basically micromanaged several first-party development teams into making them at least try to deliver quality games, there are a few studios he micromanaged who haven't made a single decent game ever since he passed away.
Steam is a good service and Gaben has great PR, but he is terrible at getting his employees to focus and actually make games.

Microsoft is a dogshit company, Xbox has always been a terrible brand, and Windows is now complete pajeetware whose only redeeming heh quality is that it has the most compatibility with games thanks to Microsoft's dogshit proprietary API. That being said, I guarantee you that within that massive pool of layoffs and firings, you'll probably find that the majority of those people were either dead weight, make-workers, or basically useless. This is generally happens during an acquisition since the acquiring company is going to be looking at the books and asking the hard questions like "what does Shaniqua actually do around here."

Completely false. Tango had made both Evil Within games before the buyout, and both were good and commercial successes.. After that they made Ghostwire, which was kind of mediocre. But Hi-Fi Rush was a critical darling, however it was knee-capped by dumbfrick Miscrosoft by putting it out onto Gamepass immediately.
Arkane Austin only made two games. Prey 2017 was good, flat out, and a commercial success. But dumbfrick Microsoft suits were jonesing for a new live service game, so they mandated the studio to make one, resulting in Redfall. People were reportedly so pissed about this that they suffered 70% turnover during the development. It was shit, obviously, a result of complete mismanagement from Microsoft and a prime example of corporate interference ruining games.
Tango was a loss. They had some actual talent, and it was refreshing to see a studio doing quality AA games.
Arkane Austin died years ago, so it's actually not a huge loss.
