lol is this 2016? In 2016 the 1080 was as capable as a desktop one. A bit higher temps so it would throttle a tiny bit, but literally identical. As time has went on they lost that parity. Some laptop gpus are worth it, but you have to research wattage and cooling again.
As for cpus.... again 2016. full fat 6700k in laptops, and ever since a laptop cpu is barely behind a desktop if you know what to look for. Even the fricking Asus Ally z1e (7840u) are monsters and no one will need much more for a long time.
The issue is upgradability, noise levels, and buying something that could throttle (like a laptop that says it is somehow powering a 4080 with 80watts)
The battery life thing is something that won't be fixed any time soon without some new tech. Even in power saving mode you get maybe 2 to 3 hours and you won't be able to do much more than to shitpost on Ganker.
the only reason to own a gaming laptop is if you are actually constantly on the move. no, visiting your parents twice a year doesn't count.
maybe you're a trucker /train ticket inspector / airplane pilot or some super busy business man (as if) and a laptop makes sense, otherwise its just a waste of money because you are just going to be plugged in, playing on a desk with mouse and likely many other peripherals and moving the fricking thing anywhere.
>the only reason
Not wanting to deal with deliveries when moving or when going on vacation is enough of a reason. Keep the laptop plugged and treat it as a desktop and when you gotta move just throw it in a bag with your clothes. The 30% price increase compared to a desktop with the same specs is a non issue for someone with a job
>Black person you're paying for a vacation just to sit on your pc
he doesn't relax in the hotel at the end of the day playing video games and getting his dick sucked on vacation.......
Not him but I don't get it either and that's because it's either something unclear or oddly specific. Your picture doesn't help. Deliveries to your house while you're moving out?
Say you are moving country. How do you plan to bring your 10-15kg desktop with you? You gotta disassemble it, make sure the parts are safely protected in the packages and that it doesn't get stolen in the process. A literal pain the ass. Now you could argue that's not something that really happens that often but I would argue instead that a laptop would make more sense if you already know you are not going to stay in the same place for long (job hopping, your company send you to thailand as representative for 6 months, etc)
I got an Acer Nitro 5 for $630 approx. USD and it's quite nice for mid-tier gaming (also a huge upgrade over my old i5-6500 and rx 480). But this anon is absolutely correct.
I liked mine when I was a student at college. Definitely got enough use out of its mobility. I considered just getting another one in the years when I settled back down but I didn't see a point in the mobility and got a desktop. Don't regret either decision.
People who go on vacation rarely even use their laptors or portable devices such as Steam Deck because they'd rather see and enjoy the new environment.
Actually it's kinda more pain in the ass to pack up and tear down a PC and haul in a monitor along just for a one week trip. Just pack a powerful enough laptop, and you're good to go anywhere you want, all your files included.
Also meh, I have a job now. I bought a powerful enough PC, realized I only used its full potential for just a few games, and most of the time I'll use it for my programming side gig while I'm still using my old 2018 gaming laptop for my work. Sometimes when I'll be going on a road trip, copying all the stuff from my PC to my laptop made me wonder if I should've just went with a current-gen gaming laptop instead of a PC lmao.
For his birthday, we got my little brother a gaming laptop. i5 CPU and 2080 Ti, various good QOL specs, all for 800 bucks (on sale). I think for this price, with these specs, it stands the test of time.
My brother's not even a gamer, he just plays the Borderlands to 100% them but has no interest in playing any other game. We originally bought it for his studies and because he didn't have a computer for himself, but for health reasons he had to postpone his studies. So for now he lives with his girlfriend and can enjoy fast browsing and all the multimedia he wants.
We've made a great deal with this laptop. For a higher price I would have thought twice.
I'm sorry about your pitiful relationship with your family. Maybe it will get better one day
But clearly he's an adult and have a job or something if he lives with someone else. Why would you buy something like a laptop for him?

I can explain the technical reason. He doesn't have a job yet, he got out of 3 years of studies, did some odd jobs, has some savings, but since he hates computers and is a stingy b***h, he would have never bought a computer by himself. He wanted to start studying on the other side of the country, so my grandma who is rich thought we could gift him a computer for his birthday and I was tasked to choose it. So I found this super cool gaming laptop.
Now the problem is he's seriously ill, he needs constant supervising unless he starts rotting from the inside, so he gave up the idea of studying until he gets better, so the laptop doesn't serve its original purpose anymore. But it was still a good deal. Again, I remind you my brother hates computers, the idea wouldn't have come from himself. We're poor so the idea wouldn't have come from us either. It's our grandma who has the idea of gifting shit to everyone because she doesn't have to worry about money. We're a close-knit family because my father (my grandma's son) died when my brother and I were very young, we all take care of each other.
Now you can understand, but I can't do the task of understanding what a gift is for you.

Like I said he has saved a few thousand euros, splits an already low rent with his girlfriend who already has a job, and just moved in last month. They don't even have a fridge yet. Now he's looking for a job, that won't be too hard for him because he has a degree in sports sciences, a driver's license and some experience in a bit of everything, and help from the job agency...
