    >Are next gen updates always better?
    Frick no. They're ALWAYS worse.
Literally no exceptions in the past 10 years.

    >Should I play The Witcher 3
No. You should only play Witcher 1. The only GOOD game in the series, and the only ROLE playing one. Also the beginning of the story, or rather the game series' story, as it is all a sequel to the novels.

Next gen update has trash performance, especially on the CPU side.
My Ryzen 3600 isn't enough to run Novigrad at 60 fps even on lowest settings, while in original it runs just fine.

The next Gen update is by far the better game. It had some extra content too

My PS5 handles novigrad at 60fps just fine =)

Next gen only has slightly better textures and heavy rt usage. The extra content is only some armor sets from the show. Uf you want to play it, you can play the normal edition just fine. 60fps maxed out on a 970 vs a slightly better looking version maxxed out 60fps on a 4090 with upscaling on.
I wanted to replay and I own a 4090, I launched the old version

Yeah these homosexuals that buy machines 10 years ago want them to work forever and get mad when games start looking better. I know they're kids but still, it's annoying to see this moronic opinion.

DX12 version runs particularly bad, schizo, while DX11 version has no DLSS nor FSR2, making it almost useless in comparison to original.

Doesn't matter. Game doesn't look next gen and there hasn't been IPC increases in years

      >Ryzen 3600

That's not exactly a powerful CPU at this point. I should know, I owned one for years but it sounds something's fricked on your end because I ran the next gen upgrade on it with a 5700XT. Overall the performance was still stellar on the highest settings at 1440p, but it did drop to like 50 fps in the center of Novigrad. I'm talking everything maxed though. Check your temps.

When TW3 update came out it was just 3 years old.
For some reason people think it's a decade old CPU

it wasn't a powerful cpu to begin with

It was without a doubt the best value at the time. Saying it wasn't powerful to begin with is just like saying that neither Ryzen 5600 or 7600 weren't any powerful when these came out.

best value doesn't mean the same thing as high end

A mid range CPU should easily run what is essentially a 2015 game.
The updated version doesn't run much different on my current CPU than original on my 2012 i5 3470, when I played it on launch.

Why do poor people equate best value with best? They translate diminishing returns as no returns at all.

A mid range is something any game dev realistically should aim for if they want to make the most of profit, dumbass.

You're right. The second half of that is mid-range end users should not expect high-end performance.

High end performance should be 120 fps, not 60

Just beat it earlier this year with a 3600 and it ran perfectly fine locked 60 fps even in Novigrad.

Looking forward to people seething and coping when Dragon's Dogma 2 releases, as there's a reason why they only show requirements for 30 fps on PC (CPU)

That's on them because the recommended specs are literally a PS5.
